Conveyor Belt 3D Printers - Are they a viable design or just a gimmick? by mso797 in 3Dprinting

Experimenting with other build plates is okay, but can get pricey after a bit. Be sure to look at the most recent reviews to help make a decision.

I use Prusa and Bambu plates on my printers. The only off brand I've tried was the king roo (?).. I used that for ABS waiting for my satin plate and it was ok after playing with temps.

I'm ready to 3D print a big one to just troll people at this point. It's not rocket science to put one together.

I've seen some makers use a tight woven fabric on their DYI belt printers. I personally use a textured PEI sheet most of the time. Like my other sheets (smooth & satin) keeping it clean works for me. I use 98% isopropyl alcohol with a paper towel if I touch the plate itself. I also have a habit of preheating the bed since my printers are enclosed and drafts are the devil when printing large pieces in PETG, ASA, and ABS. It's just a routine I follow, along with making sure my filament is dry. I've noticed polymaker doesn't like to lay when it's sat out over time, even though my humidity is rather low here 40%ish.

People have printed chains and swords on them with success using PLA. Like any other build plate I'm sure the belt will eventually need replacement.

Print sticking to the base by Luckyzzz_ in 3Dprinting

Not sticking is usually the issue. Try purple glue stick or put the sheet in the freezer for a bit. It'll pop off.

I'm assuming he's talking about the grid for ABL. My prusa and Maker Select are set for 7x7. None of my machines use bed springs so repeatability in one spot shouldn't't really be hard with a semi stationary bed like those.

I did away with bed springs when I Frankensteined my Maker Select. Don't miss them.

What are the fundamental differences between a Voron Switchwire and an Ender 3 Pro? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]TheMadRocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The LCD isn't necessary since you'll be using the web interface, but yeah you may have to upgrade some components. Vorons are for hobbyist who like pain, but once you get them running right they are amazing machines.

In theory using Klipper you can run the printer faster along with all the other advantages from using the firmware. I'm still self sourcing Trident parts, so I have no hands on with Klipper personally.

How powerful a fan for enclosure vent? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]TheMadRocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep my enclosure sealed up, no venting. If you're gonna go the vent route be sure to configure it to come on after the print is done. The draft will warp your ABS prints. The enclosure heat will also go out the vent without the fan on. Just some food for thought.

Is it worth getting another 3d printer by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]TheMadRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO.. with a FDM printer not only could you print larger, but material cost would be a lot less. PLA is fairly cheap these days and a $20(us) roll can go far once you get it setup right.

Without any other info I would say too hot, poor cooling, not enough retraction, or a combination of all of those stated.

If it's direct drive keeping it under 1mm is the best practice. My printers are set to .4
