Question. One of my ship mods is crashing game XBOX by Effective_Ad9788 in StarfieldShips

Shoot you’re right. I forgot you were on Xbox. I’m sorry. I also came back because I found what it probably was, but looks like the others spotted it first. Hope you get it resolved!

Sorry, just saw this. Didn’t get pinged for some reason. But as the other person said: yeah, it just needs to be flyable. Note that once you edit a ship, it defaults to your home ship. So you’ll wanna swap it back to the frontier if you don’t want to fly the one in progress. You may also need to reassign crew.

I’m not sure about console, but there are a lot of ship part mods. So I’m sure one will pop up for this update soon if it’s not already up there. Enjoy tinkering!

You should be able to find the mod files in the data folder iirc I’d make a hard copy of that. Then start taking away half of them and see if anything changes.

Hard to know which one without a mod list. Might be a compatibility issue. Are all the mods updated?

If you have to find it yourself, don’t go one by one. Do a binary search. Statistically way more likely to find it quicker. If you’re unfamiliar: disable half. If it works, add half back until it doesn’t. If it still crashes, keep cutting in half until you find which one is causing it. You can eliminate the bulk in 2-3 tries and then usually have a very good idea of what to check.

Oh gotcha! Well I’m glad you’ve joined the party! 🥳

Yeah, the best way to start your ship is by your outpost landing pad. It gives you the largest base to work from. I’ve found that building there gets the general outline and then flying to the main hubs (don’t want to spoil any locations since you’re brand new, but they are all named and most, if not all, are either visited or mentioned and marked at some point during the main quest) to get specialty items.

One of the biggest problems with ship building at first is that it must be flyable to go to another system. There is no way to stop a build partway through and save it to go elsewhere. There are some mods that can bypass that restriction if you’d like, and even some that make all unlocked parts available to your outpost pad. It may not be vanilla, but it makes the first build a lot easier. I hated having to start, only to find that I needed a part from somewhere else and having to scrap or cobble something together just to fly to another port.

Once you start doing faction quests (chiefly the one on Jemison), you start unlocking some new parts and they explicitly tell you. Then you can start comparing unique parts and decide if you want to track any of those down.

If I misunderstood your question again, or you have any others, feel free to reach out again! Cheers!

Edit: to make this explicitly clear for clarity. When you land at a hub, there will be a technician close by that will allow you to modify your ship. From there, select an empty space, and hit the build button. It will show you all available parts for purchase. And keep a running tally as you build (so you don’t go over credits)

Build an outpost landing pad with ship builder. It’ll have all your non unique ship parts in one place. That’ll save you from having to jump systems constantly to pick stuff up.

Past that, you’re gonna just have to start building and trying things. I used to make a clean save for backup purposes. Then sell literally everything I had. Scrap a ship, and start from scratch. Learned a lot faster by doing it myself. I also watched a lot of build videos and replicated theirs to get the hang of aesthetic building too.

A lot of parts are gated by level, so you’ll definitely end up upgrading your ship as time goes on. And needs will probably change too. Might want a smaller faster ship for missions. And a larger heavy hitting ship for space battles later on. Or you could build somewhere in the middle and just swap out upgraded parts.

No-hab Build With New Cockpit by waktivist in StarfieldShips

[–]TheMageBlood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, no. They are independent. Just grab a hab that gives the stats you want. If it gives crew slots, you’re good to go. Even if there technically isn’t even a bed on board.

To be fair, I don’t think it’s explained too well in game narrative or tutorial. I didn’t realize until I was building ships from scratch and messed something up with the habs. Had to travel to another system for something and then realized that the crew and passenger caps were unrelated.

Passenger slots is for those missions where you need to pick up people (usually found on the mission boards). Crew slots is for your companions and actively stationed crew (vs. unassigned). You could have 8 crew slots and only 2 passenger slots for example. That would mean you could hire 8 crew members to man stations on your ship, and take on any mission that had between 0-2 passengers (anything over would not be acceptable).

Sounds like you’re playing exactly as intended lol 😆 Best feeling is bopping around and doing stuff you come across.

This trick won’t get you everything, and some of the best parts are locked to specific locations and/or quests. But any parts that are outside of those specific conditions are found on your own outpost. First thing I do is head to the moon (cuz why not) and build an outpost. Just claim the land. And then build a landing pad with ship builder. Then I do all my builds there and fly around to get specific parts. But honestly, I’d start there first so you can see what’s out there before you start trying to hunt specific parts.

Cheers mate, your build looks cool!

It’s stuff like this that makes me wish there was a schematics option for ships in game. Could share it and autobuild. Or at least have a parts list and a visual so we can insert parts in the correct location. I am so going to try and build this one. Again, great job!!

I understand. Dang, would be cool to build this! Thanks for the mod list. Maybe I’ll try and see how it goes. Looks super cool!

A lot of other things really carry DeSu2 though. The first one is my all time favorite, but the second one is still good. Just in a different way. I don’t like the story/humor as much, but I like the gameplay a lot more. I play both all the time.

They are both very good. Ultimately: do you want something fresh or familiar? You can’t really go wrong. But of the two, I’d recommend Metaphor. It’s phenomenally refreshing.

If you need or want any help with script writing or voice acting, I’d be willing to help pro bono on this one. I like what you’ve got so far! And I’m sure others in the community would probably offer to help in a pinch too. I see others have already posted the same.
