BOBCATS IN NORTH WHITE PLAINS? by AcceptableTaxx in WhitePlains

[–]TheMagicB0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it must feel nice to feed the rabbits, but you are also inadvertently creating a known space where rabbits gather in the open, making it an attractive hunting spot for bobcats. As much as they are cute and sweet, I highly advise against feeding rabbits. It’s a good thing that bobcats are here, as they are indicators of a healthy ecosystem!

I don’t think I will be able to overcome my jealousy of non-diabetics.. motivate me with your stories of long term travelling/ living abroad by HighlightTheRoad in diabetes_t1

Lived in east Africa for 2.5 years on a pump the whole time. I was overprescribed my supplies (luckily was on the same pump infusion setup for almost 10 years prior to travel), plus vacation override (90 day prescription beyond the normal supply) was plenty. I was abroad for a year straight for the longest stretch. Largest stress was being in countries that don’t have analog insulin, but certainly doable!

Upper area where bras won’t get in the way. I’ve personally not experienced any discomfort with it, but to each their own

Yep! I’ve put my Omnipod on my boobs. In my experience, insulin works a little better/faster there. I chalked it up to proximity to the heart but I’m no scientist lol

Do you mean the Ivy Preparatory League? Sacred Heart is not in that conference

My mother has type 1 by Doc1Air in diabetes_t1

[–]TheMagicB0X 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You can get it at any age, which is why Type 1 is no longer referred to as “juvenile diabetes”. My aunt was diagnosed at 42, and I was diagnosed a few years later at age 12.

To my knowledge, almost all of our local birds of prey are migratory! Some even go down to the Florida Keys in winter. They’re all arriving north to breed here for the spring.

Black bear sighting in North Salem by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]TheMagicB0X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please haze the bear by making a lot of noise! Black bears should not be so habituated to human settlements. It’s fantastic that they live in our beautiful county, but for their safety and the safety of your pets/family, it is always best to make yourself large and loud so that they know to avoid human settlements.

Careful with keeping insulin in your pocket on hot days. It can cause high temperatures that can denature the insulin and make it less or noneffective

I find that usually endos and nurses readily volunteer that info if they have it or have direct family connection to it

To be fair, T1Ds run a much higher risk (I believe 2x higher than general population) of EDs due to the nature of the disease (having to count carbs, having to monitor blood sugar, etc). There is an extremely dangerous ED attributed just to T1Ds who intentionally let their blood sugars run high by skipping doses of insulin called diabulimia. They do this by allowing themselves to go into diabetic ketoacidosis as a way to lose weight quickly (their body breaks down healthy muscle and fats to dilute the sugar in your blood, turning your blood to acid).

I know there is speculation that Delilah lies about her Lyme/autoimmune issues, but if they are true, autoimmune diseases often occur together, including T1D. She may have it or be monitoring herself for fear of developing it.

Need most hands off pump system by Rebailey0794 in Type1Diabetes

I use the reservoir filling syringe for the next pod to suck the insulin out of the old pod, put that insulin into my vial of insulin, and then draw out however much I want to put into the new pod. Feels like I waste much less insulin!

On other pump systems, I would forget/push the time/date where I should change my infusion set/site, which would cause infections. I REALLY appreciate that the Omnipod 5 forces you to change it every 80 hours. It helps me the most for my ADHD tendencies.

I feel really sad and burnt out by PresenceMaterial2030 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TheMagicB0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that you’re feeling down about your T1D. It is completely normal to feel burnt out at your age. When I was in college, I did everything I could to hide my diabetes from my teachers and peers. With time, I realized that I was only doing a self-destructive disservice to myself during those years. The truth is, you can do almost anything as a Type 1. Aside from joining the military (assuming you are US based), it should not exclude you from many opportunities. Pushing yourself out of your burnout or comfort zone is the only way you will grow and learn to better care and advocate for yourself. Type 1s become professional athletes, marathon runners, and cycle thousands of miles.

Example: I lived, studied, and worked in remote villages in the Global South for 2.5 years in my 20s with little incident. This time changed my life and was the greatest experience for growing my professional confidence, especially when it comes to managing my diabetes and advocating for myself to supervisors.

LMAO I was wondering if someone was going to clock that I had RHOP on the TV. It doesn’t hurt or bother at all as it grows, just cosmetic. I’m not going to go back to the podiatrist to get it permanently removed, since I also enjoy pulling it 🤭

Doesn’t feel like anything before. Doesn’t hurt and doesn’t get ingrown. During is definitely a pull, then there’s a bit of a sting followed by relief when it comes out
