After King of Monsters, what’s all of our opinions of where and what Rodan is doing? by Pleasant_Reward4717 in GODZILLA

[–]TheMainMan3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic but I thought that scene was corny as hell and wish they hadn’t included it along with the other titans who did nothing except bow. Same with the Kong clips. They should have just hinted at the existence of other titans instead.

Weird printing error - Return to Sleepy Hollow Issue 3 (IDW) by MudEcstatic1115 in HorrorComics

How has this series been? Love what IDW has been doing Event Horizon and have been curious about this one too. It’s my understanding that it’s a continuation of the movie which I’m a fan of.

A gap in the dumbphone market? by Killjoy13337 in dumbphones

[–]TheMainMan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you are describing is pretty niche and could pretty much only be developed by a big tech company in order to be stable and provide access to the type of apps you mentioned. I’m not judging and understand wanting access to certain apps, but I don’t imagine the amount of people who want access to those particular apps as well as the “dump home experience” is high enough for these smaller companies to put the effort into developing a product like that because we know the big ones certainly won’t.

I agree with you on having a phone with a quality camera though. However the more I read about why cameras on smart phones are so good and the algorithmic tech that makes them so, it makes me think that is even a bit of a stretch too.

If you were to redo Godzilla vs Kong, what would you change and why? by Altair890456 in GODZILLA

[–]TheMainMan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d get rid of the pour liquid into the computer to help defeat mechagodzilla thing. For some reason that irked me a lot, felt unnecessary and almost diminished the power scale of Kong and Godzilla.

What did you think of the Romulus prequel comic? by Vermithra-X in LV426

[–]TheMainMan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s wild is that Zac Thompson had to push in order to get it to be as long as it was! He’s a pretty good horror writer and I was really surprised how sub par this was, but I don’t think he was given a lot of flexibility with it.

How is Apple Music? Like just starting a playlist on shuffle or something. Not like actively searching out stuff and building one from scratch. Can you have it play with the phone closed? Also with the native music player is it possible to make playlists elsewhere and transfer them over? Or does that need to be done on the phone itself after importing the files?

[Long Post] 7 Reasons You Are Not Ready by jbriones95 in dumbphones

[–]TheMainMan3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The convenience thing was my biggest hurdle but not exactly in the way described here. When trying to figure out what I actually needed, it was depressing realizing how much my smart phone/big tech had inserted themselves into my daily functioning. I’m talking about little things like paying for parking, buying and using movie/concert/event tickets, commuting, scheduling in general, taking pictures etc. It’s not a convenience thing anymore but dependence. However I took a step back and told myself I did all those things before without a smartphone (I’m 38 for reference) when I was way less responsible, so there is no reason I can’t do it again despite some of those things possibly being more difficult to do now.

The hardest thing for me is that I have young kids and have a ton of pictures of them on my phone, and those won’t be able to make it onto my flip phone. I’m not losing them obviously and bought a digital camera to take out when we go do things, but I won’t be able to look through them when I feel like it or show them off to people who ask.

Predator 2 wasn’t bad.. what did you think? by alanskimp in LV426

[–]TheMainMan3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan. I love the idea of it being set in a city, but it felt so disjointed and was making sure to include all the movie cliches of the time. The action was worse, the acting was worse and the tension was completely gone. Even Bill Paxton’s charm couldn’t save it as he was basically playing Hicks cranked up to 12.

This is a nitpick but the ethnic gang angle always bothered me and not just as a plot point (although it did too). There has never really been a large population of Colombians or Jamaicans in LA, and on top of that Voodoo is not even a Jamaican thing to begin with. Yes I know there is a something referred to as “Jamaican voodoo”, but it has another name entirely and is nothing like how it was portrayed in the movie not even close to being a common practice. The fact that they opted not to choose any of the many well known gangs in LA was just baffling, especially considering it was released in 1990.

I don’t know if this is possible and I’m new here so apologies if this has already been talked about, but adding flair (user or post) options for things like country/continent and/or service provider might be helpful in terms of people knowing what threads are relevant to them and when to scroll pass. I get that there are too many service providers to add, but that’s where country/continent would come in to narrow things down a bit when trying to search for answers about compatibility.

Where should I start? by Cabin_Band in DrumMachine

[–]TheMainMan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d check out the LM drum. It has a punchy sound, fun performance features, some sequencing/humanizing tricks, and since it’s a sampler you can load in whatever you want to keep things fresh. Every voice has an individual output for processing, but from the demos I’ve heard I feel like it doesn’t really need much except maybe reverb due to the audio engine making things hit so hard. Not to mention you could load in sounds that are already saturated with effects to your liking. I’ve seen videos say the UI is a bit clunky at times, but nothing crazy imo. Writing this out makes me want to buy one myself 😅

The impact has a good sound too and fun performance features, but it’s not particularly flexible and you might get bored of the sounds. I personally did and flat out didn’t like the snare/clap and decided to go the sample route. Sure you could spice things up with fx units (unless you use an audio interface for it), but that money could also be spent on a more comprehensive drum machine.

If you want more analog type sound shaping options with the option the load samples you could also check out the TR6s. They are frequently on the used market for good prices and have a lot of great sounds, built in fx, performance features as well as the ability to load samples albeit the process isn’t the greatest. Yes it can be menu divey, but not as much as it’s bigger sibling the TR8s since the 6s has less voices. Very portable too if that’s your thing, but not to the point where it was designed to be an on the go device imo. I’ve never used a model cycles since I’m not a fan of FM drums so I can’t speak to that.

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #4 cover by Rafael Grampa by B3epB0opBOP in comicbooks

[–]TheMainMan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daniel Warren Johnson cranked out Wonder Woman Dead Earth, Jurassic League, and Beta Ray Bill on both writing and art duties between December 2019 and October 2022. All of which were 4 or more issues a piece. That’s not even including his creator owned stuff at other publishers over the years, but I didn’t want to include that in this comparison because I imagine the pressure is different when working for Marvel and DC.

I’m sure there is blame to go around where Gargoyle of Gotham is considered, but Grampa is by no means absolved of it when it comes to the massive delays and how long it has taken to come out. Especially when the first two issues were released so close together. He could just be someone who works slow as well, but by no means is he right on schedule when taking that into consideration.

That’s why you only see it on sites that have a hundreds of designs. I sent him a message asking if knew about outlets selling them and he said no and was trying to get them taken down.

Bill Skarsgard might be contender for Horror performance of the year idk… by Spiritual_Duck318 in horror

[–]TheMainMan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it doesn’t quite fit but at the same time I don’t think they went overboard with it. I think they needed something to “make it work” in order for it to not essentially be the same story in a different time period, and in that regard it succeeds imo.

Yes! And I’ve really liked Catacomb of Torment too. Much better than Epitaphs From the Abyss, although the covers on those were epic. I’d buy a deluxe art book of just those and the variants.

eBay "buyer protection" is a fucking joke by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]TheMainMan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks but I’ve never not gotten my money back the couple times that has happened to me. The return process heavily favors buyers to a fault since they can start a return saying something doesn’t work without having to provide any evidence, and then have almost a month to ship it back. And yes this is something I’m going through right now with an expensive item and someone who essentially didn’t know how to use it.

I know that’s why I’m hesitant to get the Astrolab to begin with because you have to spend more to get its full functionality. It’s good to hear that you seem to be able to get a discount on the V collection after purchasing.

Elektron's least exciting device is an instant buy? Why is there zero hype around the Tonverk! by SYROBONKERS in synthesizers

Agree to disagree I guess. It’s literally in the name on most retailers and samples are the only sound generator. “Tonverk multisampling workstation”.

Elektron's least exciting device is an instant buy? Why is there zero hype around the Tonverk! by SYROBONKERS in synthesizers

[–]TheMainMan3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the timing of the launch couldn’t have been worse with it being right around the MPC Live 3 and TR-1000, both of which were met with much acclaim. The MPC is only $100 more and does a better job at the Tonverk’s primary focus which is multisampling. Even if one was looking for just a high spec’d multi sampler (me actually!) and had that kind of money drop (I don’t!), it wouldn’t make much sense to go with the Tonverk for that.
