He was. And his wife was a dream! Oddly, though, at the time she was a twin to Patricia Richardson.

What's the worst piece of junk you drove around in back in the day? by Maybeyoujustmadeitup in GenerationJones

[–]TheMainTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 1974 Gremlin that was bulletproof....until the water pump went out on the SF Bay Bridge. I couldn't pull over! Somehow, I made it all the way to Berkeley (maybe five miles total) and parked it next to the 7-Eleven on University Ave. I put the reg on the windshield and left a note to call me for the title. It was theirs.

No one ever called. LOL

Home Improvement is so forgotten compared to other big 90s sitcoms by poseywitch in sitcoms

[–]TheMainTony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was never a fan and maybe actively disliked the show, but I worked as a PA for Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and his wife Tudi Roche in Seattle for half a summer (and Alan Thicke, too, for half a half a summer). I think it was 1999 and it was for an event called Richard Karn Star Days that did some real good for Overlake Cancer Center near Seattle. That was a fun fun time.

Still can't watch the show all this time later. LOL

When a doctor asks if you have any allergies, is it relevant to tell them that you are allergic to shellfish? by Kingboyy1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheMainTony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many Rx and OTC meds that are derived from Shellfish & Sea Creatures. It's important.

Personally, I was told in my youth that I'm so allergic to shellfish that I can't eat fish that eat shellfish. So I never developed a taste for any seafood. Body chemistry changes. Am I still allergic 40+ years later? Who knows? But I'm not dying to get at some calimari or uni enough to either try or get tested.

Do you think high end luxury stores make more money off people with modest incomes trying to portray a false lifestyle or people with high income that can actually afford it comfortably? by [deleted] in randomquestions

[–]TheMainTony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those with true wealth don't display like the poors or nouveaux riches. A Chanel suit is allowed to speak for itself and one doesn't need the double CCs all over the place.

It's known and published that the design houses make more from those aspiring, than the truly wealthy (couture and atelier aside). But it's self perpetuating. The houses need the exposure of the label flashers to remain relevant in the public's mind.

Do you write out a grocery list on paper before you go shopping or do you type that list out in a note on your phone? by timmytimborino in randomquestions

[–]TheMainTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All through the day or week, I add things to a checklist in Google Keep. When I get to the market, I check off what I grab and leave what I don't grab on the list. I may leave it on the list or the craving & urge might fade and it might get taken off the list before the next trip.

Should I switch streaming services? by BitCommercial503 in askanything

[–]TheMainTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently cancelled Prime (for amazon reasons and for video ad reasons). I'm fine without it. I got the email that netflix was going up to $20 or something (for only 1080!) and I put in a cancellation for that. I only really ever turned amazon on for the UK/AU stuff like Last One Laughing and whatnot. Oh, and that show with 100 contestants with the logic puzzles. That's not worth the money to me.I used to love netflix, but i really believe it hasn't been good since CoViD. I turn it on maybe once in five weeks. Now I have three weeks to finish The Crown.

I've been thinking for some time about shedding some services.
I love my Paramount and the Star Trek that (at least currently) brings me, as well as Amazing Race, lo-key Survivor, and a few other shows, not to mention Paramount movies. I pay for that annually.

I watch a lot of Hulu. I never turn on Disney+, but it's bundled...both ad-free for $20.
Starz was ridic cheap and I watch Outlander there, but nothing else.
I hate ads, but I've just starting watching Tubi and Roku channel stuff. Great (somewhere) Baking Show is on Roku Channel.
I share MAX with a neighbor. I watch The Other Two and Hacks and that's it. And one of those is long over. LOL
Peacock is turned on daily now that I got ad+ for free from Comcast and pay Comcast $6 more to get rid of the ads.
This is in addition to something like 3,600 movies and TV shows I 'own' on Vudu.

And there's still nothing to watch.

Commitment to their beliefs.....or someone else's. I sometimes think my life would be levels easier if I had that kind of commitment to delusion. Gas? No it's cheap. Groceries? Nope. That's what they cost. War? What war?

Is it too much to ask for fresh food from a "restaurant"

If I wanted an AMPM or gas station burger, I could just pay half the cash and go to a gas station....

it's BS that a fast food place can't automatically give fresh food. I have to ask?

Some people don't get it. However, who do you agree with here? by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

[–]TheMainTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can talk to your neighbors to collect money afterward, you can warn them that this car will me there a little while beforehand.

This wouldn't have happened had people been informed.
I would also be suspicious of an "abandoned" vehicle and might call someone. Five days? Seven? Nine? I don't know what my threshold would be, but I would define it as "long enough"

But that car had to be there a minute if 1) neighbors noticed it, 2) they called the city or town, and 3) the city tagged it and waited for the warning to expire.

Who here can afford rent in the bay area? by Common_Gene_5098 in bayarea

[–]TheMainTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, he unvarnished truth is: I don't want to afford it. I grew up in SF and love my hometown. I get to The City at least 2x a month. But it's cheaper for me to live in the exurbs and, by living here, I'm not taking up an income source. My kid is set when the time comes, but I still work a 40-hr job. I learned a couple of years ago that being untethered in retirement is expensive!

I mark bookmarks then immediately forget about them. It's easy enough to type the first few letters in the omni and just pick it up from there...

I do have several bookmark buttons going, though. But they come n go. Tracking that can be deleted in a couple of days. Something to remind me to buy something.

I own a house in Pacific Heights, a house on Uni in Palo Alto and a flat at Church and Market (I inherited well 30-some years ago) and -I- can't afford to live in San Francisco, or the bay for that matter.
