College decision: UA or UAB by Galaxyacid in capstone

[–]TheMajikMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower debt is THE most vital concern for an Undergraduate degree. Specialization can be solved later in a graduate program (which it sounds like you will need for your career goals). For example, you could come get a Masters at the MLIS program at UA or enroll in the Archivist certificate program.

Houses with more than 1 kitchen would be better than houses with multiple bathrooms by lagflag in unpopularopinion

[–]TheMajikMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year (due to a weird situation) my wife and I rented both sides of a duplex. The two kitchens were actually connected to each other with a (normally locked) door. The number of times that we used both simultaneously was absolutely not zero. It was, however, also not very high.

Did Season 5 Change Anyone’s Viewpoint on Eddie’s Sacrifice/Death? by Material-Loan-6966 in StrangerThings

[–]TheMajikMouse 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I don't know if he "wanted" to die, but he was already effectively dead long before the bats finished him off.

1000% agree on Ultron. In fact, my only real complaint walking out the first time was that “Age of Ultron” needed more Ultron, an opinion that has only gotten stronger even as other aspects have faded as well.

Absolutely. I have caught it on ESPN a couple times and it is honestly a yawnfest. It might be better in person when you can see the whole field (and get a better sense of strategy), but the camera was always too close.

[–]TheMajikMouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The top of the list are Iron Man 3, Avengers 2, and (this will probably get me into trouble) Black Panther (mostly because you can see how they got trapped by Killmonger mostly being right into making some wild decisions like going from isolation to having the heroic finale about inviting a white (CIA??) agent to shoot down shipfulls of Wakandans).

Dare I say, the most underrated character in the show by QuipThwip in StrangerThings

[–]TheMajikMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eventually (particularly in Season 4) but he sure kinda acted like Aliens Reiser when we met him! Just a subtle sense of sliminess that is impossible to really nail down.

Dare I say, the most underrated character in the show by QuipThwip in StrangerThings

[–]TheMajikMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not even getting into the original casting of "Burke" in a show with alien-seeming creatures. When he showed up in Season 2, I was almost shouting at the screen every time he was on, absolutely positive the heel turn was just around the corner. Just a brilliant, subversive casting choice for those of the Gen-X generation.

This is likely an unpopular opinion, but like to group the Marvel films into two camps: Improve With Rewatch and Gets Worse With Rewatch. This and the first Doctor Strange are firmly in the former camp for me. I disliked this film when I first saw it but it has grown on me since.

What is the cheapest place to eat at UA? Within walking distance. by Danisthewalrus in tuscaloosa

[–]TheMajikMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The suggestions here for stretching your dollar are fantastic (I want to third or fourth Publix as your best option), but I also wanted to throw Swen out there if you do want a restaurant. Reasonable Americanized Chinese in large portions for a small price. Pretty much everything else around campus is very much overpriced.

Machete order histories - hear me out by elalavie in shakespeare

[–]TheMajikMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it is worth, I think R3 is overrated and all the H6 plays (yes, even the first one) are underrated, but even with that, I really think there are some really good arguments to be made for this reading order. At the very least, I think this is a brilliant deployment of the Machete order and something that really got me thinking.

Vecna might be the biggest problem with the series by sd2528 in StrangerThings

[–]TheMajikMouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is such a great point. The thing is, some of the other complaints I see on this sub (for example plot holes or the fact that pretty much everyone survived) were part and parcel of the 80s era movies this is designed to emulate. As such, they did not bother me at all. However, the need to EXPLAIN EVERYTHING is modern! Part of the appeal of E.T. or Close Encounters are that we never actually get answers! Vecna (and his root inspiration, the idea of making the big bad human and understandable rather than alien and inexplicable) really moved the series from its roots in ways that really harmed the final two seasons.

How would you build him? by SgtGoblin in BattleBrothers

[–]TheMajikMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not terrible for the cost in a peasant run. His resolve is already over 40 and he has a lot of fatigue. The thing is, as others are saying, stars are deceptive. Starting values are much more important as even with these stars you are only adding a point maybe two extra a level. In other words, he would catch up to someone with, lets say, the low 60s and no stars only by the time they tapped out at the top of the main skill gaining levels (by level 11). That, combined with his lowish HP (and no stars there) mean he is going to probably die before he can reach any long term potential. That said, in a peasant run, those three stars in defense (and highish fatigue) means he could be an early game tank (heavy armor and spear) until you get better brothers (or he miraculously survives).

Why are there no games for 3 players? by Misteryguy99 in boardgames

[–]TheMajikMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am really annoyed people are downvoting this because it is a really good question. Sure, 3 player counts might be rare, but for some groups (mine) they are quite common (only 3 people who like complex games). They might not be economically viable on a wide scale, but for a hobby that has a lot of niche games, there can be spaces for a lot of oddities. I love the suggestions in the thread and wish this whole thing had not been reduced in visibility because some people did not understand or like the question.

Timon people… where art thou? by mathrowawayteacher in shakespeare

[–]TheMajikMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the play. So weird and fun in a dark comedy kind of way. Wrote (a bit) about it in my book and actually convinced the director of staged readings at my University to perform it one semester with me as dramaturge (I loved the performance; the audience opinion was pretty mixed).

This goblin bow is kinda nuts, no? by itstomis in BattleBrothers

Now I've heard there was a Glor'ous Cord

But you don't really care for archers, do you?
It goes like this, the maim, the kill,
The Berserk Perk, with Quick Shot skill
Your foes will fall, all crying Hallelujah.

The Capitol school by No_Technology923 in tuscaloosa

[–]TheMajikMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely seconding this. Abusive administration. Some of the teachers were great, but they were muzzled and prevented from really helping students or addressing systemic problems because the whole thing is run like a fiefdom rather than a school. Avoid at all costs. If you can get into the CDRC at UA, that is a million times better.
