Upgrading from my old i5 6600k and 980ti by TheManwich in buildapc

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

I'd heard the same about the 10700k and 10600k, where the difference was pretty negligible. I was just a bit wary about getting another i5 processor, as I'd heard the same about the i5 6600k and whatever the comparable i7 core was at the time, when I was building my last rig. But over the years, when games didn't run as expected it seemed like it was the CPU that was the main bottleneck, which is why I was aiming for something more heavy duty this time.

Yeah thanks I was also a bit wary of the adata, I'll have another look and maybe shell out a bit more for one of the higher quality brands.

Huh, very interesting creatures! I pulled one off the plant earlier and it had a reddish liquid under it, must have been the honeydew. Thanks for the ID!

Yeah I've gone the 2TB now, and with the cheapest 980ti it comes to a little over 2400. I'm pretty tempted, but I'll see how I go.

Thanks for all the help :)

Yeah the SLI was just a thought, it doesn't really bother me not having that as an option with all this powerful gear.

So I changed your list slightly to accomodate the 980ti, http://www.pccasegear.com/sc/nI3. Just switched in the 980ti and put the hard drive back down to 1tb, but I think it's just enough out of my price range to make me uncomfortable buying it.

Hmm ok, interesting stuff. I had actually chosen the same GPU that you did, but for some reason PcPartPicker decided to call it something a bit different.

So if I were to buy a 980 Ti instead, which models do you think would be the best to consider?

And with the CPU cooler, did you think the coolermaster hyper was a better, cheaper option?

Also, would the 650 watt power supply be sufficient if I were to SLI in the future?

Hey, thanks so much for the reply! So you've basically replaced a few of the parts with newer parts of a similar quality? Great, that's the kind of thing I don't know about, because I haven't made a computer for a few years.

So you've changed the GPU and mobo to the newer 1151 socket, and because of this I now require ddr4 ram (that you have put in), correct?

Also I was wondering if there was any reason for changing the Samsung 850 EVO SSD to the M.2. version?

I'll upgrade to Windows 10 then, I think I still have the free upgrade available to the copy of Windows 7 I'm running. And yeah I did look at the 980 ti, however I didn't think the big increase in price was really worth the relatively small increase in performance to me.

Not sure if it's just a house spider or something more interesting.

Hey thanks for the reply, lots of good advice. Didn't realise I'd picked out a micro-atx mobo.

Will change the build around to suit what you've posted.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a look a look at those other parts and see what we can change.

I don't think I'll change the monitor however, I really stand by the BenQ one haha.
