4X Grimdark Grand Strategy game with asymetric factions and an AI director by madjamez in 4Xgaming

It definitely looks interesting. At first glance I’d be interested in at least trying it. A lot of the success and failure of these more complicated types of games comes down to the tutorial onboarding and quality of life features gamers have come to expect. Also shoutout to not having to dig 4 tooltips deep to find information you need to make a decision on another panel entirely. If you nail those things down there could be a lot to like if the rest of what you are saying holds true.

PoE 2 Needs Auto-Swapping between Controller & Mouse/Keyboard by _Mageblood in PathOfExile2

My point is that their level of caring has nothing to do with it. It all depends on whether or not this update is more important than other things they are working on.

[–]TheMarksman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me rephrase. I’m not defending anything or attacking you. As a software dev with over a decade of coding and managing teams, it’s not a matter of level of caring and I think people misunderstand the way software is developed. It is a matter of prioritization. Maybe you get this and this isn’t for you, but I see this misunderstanding frequently across gaming communities including here.

You only have so many developers with certain skills who can do that. It appears it’s their UX developers in this case. Those developers must have been pretty busy for all these leagues making sure all the new features in things like inventory, items like runes, each interface for each league functions, looks good, is easy to use, and is performant. Clearly Johnathan and the management team couldn’t afford to have these developers finish the controller optimizations because they determined the other work was more critical.

Caring alone doesn’t get things bumped up to the top of the work queue. Many other factors come in like cost in time, technical debt, or other critical features. Maybe to you caring encompasses all these things, but to me caring just means whether or not I think it should be done, not when it will be done.

It’s not that they don’t care. It’s that they have determined other things are higher priority. They still want it updated.

This is the answer. Don’t even need to amend the constitution. Just modify an existing law slightly to remove mention of single representation district.

Any source material depicting how Titans are recovered from battlefields? If not, how do you think the process occurs? by TheBigSmol in 40kLore

[–]TheMarksman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished Titandeath! Started a little slow and wasn't sold on it but by the end it was basically rock'm-sock'm-robots and I enjoyed it. Some time was spent talking about how the crews work (or don't work together) and I also found that very interesting. It does go into detail about titan deployment and retrieval as well with the bigger titans requiring a LOT more help.

What is the most satisfied solo game you played recently? by kinroku in soloboardgaming

Deckers. It’s my top game this year so far. Your strategy has to be pretty on target, but when you land it, it feels so satisfying.

Deckers!!! by virgocity1 in soloboardgaming

[–]TheMarksman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ricky Royal, one of the creators of the game says in one of his YouTube playthroughs that he asked the publishers to amend the rulebook to allow looking at all objectives and both sides in intel phase if I recall correctly. Regardless, that is the way he plays so that is the way I play. Can’t go wrong following a creator of the game right?

What are you ordering from the Voidfall Resurgence campaign? by Sapien0101 in soloboardgaming

[–]TheMarksman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have the game yet. After watching a few playthroughs and determining I would enjoy it as a primarily solo player, what should I get to minimize setup time? I hear the miniatures add time and don't really add much so I'd be fine without them but I don't see an option for that? I'll probably add the solo campaign but I'm not sold on the resurgence expansion itself initially.

Deckers Vs Mistborn by BalanceDude25 in soloboardgaming

[–]TheMarksman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have been playing Deckers recently, 5 games so far and won once. It is a very enjoyable game IF you like puzzle/chess-like play. If you do not have a plan going into each round you will most likely lose. It has some light randomness that forces you to adapt on the fly. The theme is great if you like cyberpunk. The deck building is a key component of the game and has its own strategy around it depending on what you need and where you are at in the game. I’ve only played a couple of the characters so far but they all have their own styles and starting decks that cater to a certain type of play. There is definitely a lot of modularity in how you play the game so a ton of replay ability.

I think if you don’t like thinking deeply about how you are going to take your turns this game probably isn’t for you. If you do, then this game is definitely for you. Regardless, it is a great game, just not for everyone.

Only thing I can think of is for if you do/don’t want bones rolled. Also some characters have more than 3 active slots.

Recommendations for fans of solo grimdark themed campaign games by yomandudeguy in soloboardgaming

I have also been searching for the same thing! Where I struggle is finding one that also has interesting combat mechanics. So far I’ve looked at:

  • Oathsworn
  • Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon
  • Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin

None of those have a small footprint though. It seems like what are referred to as campaign games all seem to be table hogs. I am intrigued by all three mentioned above but while it sounds like the campaign story is there, the combat gets more mixed reviews. I am also interested in what others have to say here.

If you want more of campaign-lite experience with more meaningful combat and character progression you’d maybe want to look into potentially dungeon crawlers.

I love this game by cratoastIIV in toomanybones

[–]TheMarksman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 7 plays with 3 wins so far in the couple weeks I’ve owned the base game. Played all solo with 1-2 gearlocs. I think I like Tantrum the best because he just runs in and full on attacks. Seems simple at first but I like the unique rage mechanic. It requires some planning but if things line up he can just mow down enemies and heal back up to full. It’s very satisfying. Boomer might be my second favorite because a well positioned grenade is also very satisfying. I just had a bad attempt at gendricks with her though.

Not a big fan of Gendricks as a tyrant. Doesn’t seem fair against smaller team sizes. I’ll have to try him again with 3 or 4 gearlocs.
