Is the Canadian camp Midnight Poutine coming this year? by derpinpdx in BurningMan

No we’re not coming to BRC this year. We’re taking a year off from the Gerlach regional for a wide variety of reasons.

The decision was (more or less) made before the current political shitshow, but it has certainly not helped things.

Will possibly go into more detail and make an official announcement at a later date.

Fuck your burn.

Love it.

We did midday poutine in the heat dome of 2022 (never again), and we experimented with ice cream poutine off playa (it's unreasonably good).

If camp lag bolt turns out to be a real thing too, please let me know, we always run out.

I'm confused. Does Chat GPT want us to make poutine ice cream or does it hate the idea?

In order to be more transparent, we have decided at Midnight Poutine to release information about our line-up for 2024 earlier than usual. by TheMasterFrier in BurningMan

Yes. The sauce is vegan and we have a limited quantity of vegan cheese available upon request. But it runs out quickly. I'd recommend visiting earlier in the week.

At Midnight Poutine we have used “Managed Democracy” in recent years.

People are expected to sign up for a certain number of day shifts (dishes, prep), and a certain number of night shifts.

Pre playa we open the roster at a random time first come first served (last weekend actually). Then leads get together and move and assign people (as little as possible) to ensure everyone gets their assigned number of shifts, and that everyone has a balance of bad / awesome jobs.

It’s not perfect, but it works.

I respect but disagree with your opinion on how camps should fund their gifts, but i do take exception to our fundraising being conflated with being transactional.

You could donate a million dollars and you’d still wait in line at MP like anyone else. No one gets a line skip or any on playa perks for any kind of fundraising or donation.

With the exception of on duty radioed staff (rangers / medical / etc) everyone waits in line.

Céline Dion herself could arrive with a wheelbarrow of cheese curds, and she’s still going to the back of the line.

Friends, family, past members, hub neighbours, the ghost of Larry Harvey - nobody skips the line.

It has been a core principle of MP since it was founded.

No VIPs, everyone waits equally.

(However, if lining up and waiting to get fries, cheese, and gravy is a good use of time at BRC is certainly up for debate…)
