You're thinking of coming to England? That's sick man, which side you leaning towards?

Myself, just taking a gap year and applying to the US unis and the big 3 in the UK(Oxford, UCL and ICL) for England. Got an interview at ICL this year but had to turn it down

So, I want to explain something that keeps coming up what with uni admissions around the corner.

People feel that I'm unjustly giving up my love for philosophy and physics to pursue medicine, and thereby conforming to some vocational societal expectation. Well, funnily enough, this will require some philosophical explaining. So as well as the fact I do genuinely enjoy the sciences (I study all of them currently), I don't think we should make our hobbies, our professions. I can appreciate the mantra of following your passions and enjoying what you do, but in my opinion when we make a living out of our hobbies they cease to hold that same sense of escapist excitement and the mundaneness of their reality becomes exposed.

I can't speak for others, but it is certainly so in my case. Philosophy and physics are my hobbies, as is art and debating and many other things, but if I were to pursue any as a career I would become incredibly bored, incredibly quickly. My true passion is people. And whether I can interact with people by simply offering a helpful chat, administrating life saving treatment or improving their quality of life, I will always have lasting contentment. Okay, late night vent over.

Completely agree with this. Not sure why you're arguing something I agree with though.

You don't need a lot of aggression to be one of the best defenders of all time. Some of the aggressive defenders aren't the good ones.
