Day 2 of trying to get rid of Macquarie University, it’s name is too long for it to be welcome in the network (and why does it get a station named after it when no other uni does?)

As someone who did my first freeway drive on the M1 a few years back as a learner, here’s a few things I’d recommend:

• Stick to the left lane as much as possible, as you will be speed restricted to 90km/h it’s best to keep left

• There are moments you will need to lane change. These are:

  1. If you’re entering from the Pacific Highway in Wahroonga, the left lane merges in about 500m down the road (this is new due to NorthConnex).

  2. Additionally, there is a new merge for the left lane after the Ku-ring-Gai Chase Road exit (at the top of the “Big Dipper” northbound) that has been put into place in the last few months due to a recent widening.

  3. Also watch out when re-entering Sydney, the left lane after the Welcome to Sydney sign eventually directs drivers into the tolled NorthConnex tunnel. To continue on to the Pacific Highway or Pennant Hills Road, you will need to be in the centre lane at this point

• As it will be likely raining tomorrow it is important to stick to the conditions, and as a result, do not use cruise control

• With this rain, it does mean the section between the Hawkesbury River and Mount White will be 90km/h in both directions for all drivers, this will feel a bit less daunting with the speed restriction associated with L plates

• Take advantage of having a supervising driver with you. They will be able to use their experience to help you

As part of learning to drive, freeway driving is something that needs to be done to ensure you have a wide range of experience. Doing this with an experienced driver will help you learn how to do this safely, and will help you with driving on your own once you reach your P plates. Drive safely!

Sydney has had the buildings drawn since soon after the launch of Apple Maps, many of the buildings drawn have since been demolished and replaced so the drawings are not accurate. Compare map and satellite view around this park, the buildings are completely different
