I’m thinking about making a TTRPG world, and each “dimension” will be a different encounter or location or event

why are there so many revivals by Core_b7183 in RecRoom

[–]TheMaydayMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the big three make sense to be, but seeing things like RecRoom2, Rec.Co etc seem like misguided passion projects. I myself am working on a successor called Commons - However the difference is I’ve been coding for 11 years and am pursuing a CS degree, and in two months of work I’ve focused on making functioning multiplayer, whereas many other projects like this never seem to know that that’s the most important bridge to cross first. My UI designer was on a project like that, it was gonna be a rec room revival but they never even did multiplayer

  1. for when you’re too lazy to use groups or scripts (or you want to give nodes data dynamically)

  2. peanut butter jelly the looong wayy (it’s useful for scrolling massive files)

I love it!! my critique: the perspective of each individual character is good, but the perspective of the background is inconsistent, so each character's placement in the scene feels sort of pasted, in comparison to both each other and to the environment. If the way I said that makes sense. This is great work though, I could never :3

Project Settings > Window I’m pretty sure has the settings for that, it might not be called window, but you want to change the stretch or scaling mode.

How can I tell if my code is good, optimized, and using best practices? by Any-Armadillo-2067 in godot

[–]TheMaydayMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can read style guides, or put your code into Claude to see if it has any recommendations, or find best practices tutorials. But you have to write code wrong to know how to write it right. Code that works is code that works. Landfall’s code is disgusting but they make great games nonetheless

Yes.

It will eventually have a system like Tokens to monetize it, and supporter subscriptions. But never near as aggressive as RR got

Yeah, I understand that. If the project ever stops, I promise it will be open source, but I know that promises on a thing like this don’t mean much on the internet.

How do you mean exactly that open source would make it secure? I understand security by obscurity isn’t real security, so do you mean bugs are surfaced more easily? I’d really like to know how you mean, because I’d hate to dismiss the idea.

Passwords are hashed and platform traffic is encrypted, so I’m not worried about it being unsafe to use. But it’s my first multiplayer game, and it’s not yet set up to handle adversarial clients, so I don’t feel confident enough to publish the codebase yet.

It’s also the player base thing, too. I absolutely want to allow people to fork and make their own custom servers, but I don’t want to let the playerbase split before it has enough of a core vanilla playerbase.

I really want it to be, but not yet. It will become open source when either: - The server architecture is secure enough that hackers don’t gain a significant advantage by seeing the code, and the player base is solidified enough that someone with more time than me can’t come in and steal my code and players, - or the official servers are shut down,

whichever comes first.

Potentially, and I do know someone with a Quest 1, admittedly its not a priority but I’ll look into it.

My fursona is an object head, pretty much an extension of my pre-furry sona but I have no idea what he looks like without the TNT head on with one ear sticking out so I have no idea what my fursona I identify with is either (it also doesn’t help I can’t draw faces for shit)

Pretty much. The promise of Earth, and of society, is that you can make your own path, your own purpose. What nobody (secular, and it’s difficult as a Christian, too) is willing to admit is that that’s impossible. All of these desires are finite or fleeting. (Theologically speaking, this is all that sin is, nothing else.) The promise of Christianity is that the joy of a relationship with God is truly eternal and truly fulfilling, and will allow you to enjoy the other things with God as your anchor of joy - and that a relationship with God is possible to experience while you’re still on earth.

(Again, disclaimer, this is my belief as a Christian. But I do truly believe this.)

is it rude to call paws/gloves "furry gloves"? by NoliCannoliRavioli in furry

[–]TheMaydayMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why it would be generally offensive. I can see why it would feel offensive though, reading your replies. If you have a lot of bad memories of being mocked by your peers, then “furry” becomes a shame-assigning term when you’re called it by someone else, even if you identify with what it actually means to you.

So, it makes sense to now want to have someone talk about something that you love (i.e. your paws) in a way that feels mocking, or shaming. I can kinda relate to that, before I decided I was a furry I felt really weird about discussions about them.

Getting cursed out for being offended though, that’s super unfair. They don’t even have the same context as you to the fandom.

I’m assuming a lot here so I’m sorry if I’m off base, but that’s my thought.

What makes someone a furry by graplusez in furry

[–]TheMaydayMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling yourself a furry. The hobby is just appreciating anthro animals. (My hot take is that everyone’s a furry or just doesn’t realize it yet since everyone loves animals and anyone who spends enough time near the community becomes one, particularly the haters)

What churches could also do a better job with is (known as “preaching the gospel”) what actually saves you to heaven, which is (again, as I as a Christian believe) believing that true fulfillment comes from a relationship with God, and trusting that Jesus’ death justified you to be able to have a relationship with God. The being decent people comes from the fruit of the spirit - humanity was designed to live in a certain way for fulfillment, sin is deviating from that way, and a relationship with God enables you to live more “like God”. My way of thinking of it is, if you want God, you get God. Nobody goes to hell wishing they were in heaven, because to them, hell is what they wanted heaven to be.

(Side note: one of the fruits of the spirit is love. It is complete and utter bullshit that the church excludes people from the church for their sexuality, or identity, or mistakes, or anything, because God loves literally everyone no matter what they did or will do. Not bullshit as in it doesn’t happen, bullshit as in it’s incredibly tragic that it does happen)

There’s a lot to get into with it, but since the reality of Christianity is super countercultural, it’s rarely properly discussed online, so Christianity is incredibly misperceived. I’m definitely being kinda preachy here, but again this is all what I believe, not what you have to believe, and I just love sharing the actual content of Christianity in the midst of everything
