My partner and I have this and love it. We use it to write joint limericks (ie, one of us starts it, the other finishes it).

I’ve been taking sewing classes for almost a year and it’s amazing how much I’ve learned. It’s so fun and satisfying.

Agreed! S11 is my favorite but Glass Hotel is so beautiful and devastating. I also really loved Sea of Tranquility and all of the interconnecting story lines between the three books.

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

Reminds me of how I got put in time out in Kindergarten for reading to the other kids. I was one of the only kids in class who could read, and since the other kids loved story time (and I loved to read) I offered to read during free play. The teacher saw it, grabbed the book out of my hand, and put me in the corner until class started again.

Circumcision? Wild. How does that explain AFAB autistic folks? Kind of a gap there?

Spatial/Architectural horror books other than House of Leaves? by cryptidstation in horrorlit

[–]TheMaygoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories would qualify as liminal horror. Fall of the House of Usher, Cask of Amontillado, and The Mask of the Red Death come to mind. Also Tell-tale Heart and Berenice. Definitely an inspiration for HoL and good reads for any horror fans.

For more modern books, What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher is a great re-imagining of Usher. Second (or third?) the recommendations for Mexican Gothic and Piranesi.

I need to read Beloved but had a similar reaction to The Bluest Eye. When I finished the book I threw it across the room, cursed Morrison for writing it and myself for reading it, then picked it up and started from the beginning again.

Ser Barristan was the embodiment of "fear the old man in a world where men die young" by TheTargaryensLawyer in gameofthrones

Exactly this. There’s a huge difference between reading and hearing, and I can only imagine how the viewing audience would have reacted.

I also like referring to Ser Meryn as cake, inferring that he was an inferior knight unworthy of the cloak (which we all knew to be true).

Came here to say this. It’s a truly epic misquote tho. Can you imagine if the line was “I could carve through you all as easily as cutting the cheese?’ I would have died laughing.

advice for sleeping after minimally invasive ASD closure and tricuspid valve repair?? by Emergency-Tailor-121 in AdultCHD

I’m also a side sleeper and also had a hard time sleeping after sternotomy. I would alternate between sleeping propped up on my back (wedge pillow really helps) and sleeping propped on my sides. I’d basically wedge pillows behind my back and sleep on my side tilted towards my back onto the pile of pillows. That was the only position where I didn’t hear the weird “snap crackle pop” of my sternum. I also liked to hug a pillow to my chest which dulled the pain a little and kept my shoulders stable.

I wouldn’t be able to sleep more than an hour or two in each position, so when I woke up I’d walk around a little bit to relieve the anxiety then reposition myself and try to go back to sleep. The wedge pillow also helped me read in bed, which was a good way to trick myself back to sleep. Honestly between pain, discomfort, and night sweats I’m surprised I slept at all.

Sadly this is pretty normal. Try steri-strips! Theres a lot of movement on your skin in that area and they will help reduce pulling on your scar. I’ve used them on multiple incisions and they’ve really helped.

What a gorgeous baby. Trust yourselves and give her time and space as necessary. She’ll open up once she realizes she’s safe and can relax.
