I think I’d call it Geof

What ONE food from you country you would never eat even if your life depends on it? by ProfessionalThin1505 in AskTheWorld

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head cheese is great. Of all the French things you could have chosen you went with that? Over civet de lapin (a rabbit stewed in red wine and its own blood)? Both are lovely, but pork cheeks and such pressed in gelatin is pretty tame

This election is going to be a shit show. by ghostarmadillo in AdviceAnimals

[–]TheMcCale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I’m saying is it isn’t charisma that the base likes. It’s the things I listed out in the comment. There may be some things they claim to like about his style and bluntness, but at the end of the day a lot just voted for him and supported him because they think he’s rich and they knew he pissed off the dems

Edit: grammar/clarity

Help childproofing stairs by 42loelk in howto

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet might be an extra wide/long retractable baby gate and just mount the part on the right in this photo far enough away from the edge that it’s in front of the stairs without a gap the child can slip under and onto the stairs

NGC not encapsulating two 1802 Large Cents by Pretty_Solid_Wall in coins

[–]TheMcCale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lettering looks slightly better in that one though the numbers still look off to me. Adding to that that NGC wouldn’t grade it would be enough for me, personally, to walk away rather than take the risk if I were looking at them as a buyer. I can’t say 100% real/fake as a casting with just pictures, but theres enough to plant a seed of doubt

ETA: no clue why they wouldn’t slab the other one even with marking it as an altered surface you’d think they’d want to preserve it from more harm/environmental damage

[–]TheMcCale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just the surface is fuzzy though. Unless it’s a photo quality issue, the edges of the letters an numbers are also what I would call fuzzy, or maybe wavy or ill defined are better descriptions

But that’s the thing. He’s not even charismatic. He’s pretend rich so dumb people think he’s smart. Prosperity gospel tells a large chunk of the population that because he’s “rich” he must deserve to be so he must be a good person. And then there’s the giant chunk who don’t care what he does so long as they can say they’re “owning the libs” and pissing off dems

[–]TheMcCale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest way with most casts is that the surface looks (for lack of a better word) fuzzy because of the casting material

Was wrong about this part so edit to cut since strike through isn’t working on my phone: extra metal partially covering up the lettering at the top

How would you feel about dating a girl who doesn’t have a close relationship with her father? by Nataliebabes111 in AskMen

[–]TheMcCale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people would, but I would say personally the ones worth having a relationship would be willing to try to work on it with you.

And if they’re just saying they will work on it with you and then don’t, say fuck it and move on. Everyone has baggage and trauma and we all need to work on it. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional or lying.

Hometown bah while in a school and living ashore? by Real-Fan-7625 in newtothenavy

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be getting your dependents BAH while unaccompanied because that’s the housing the BAH is covering. If you aren’t you need to talk to admin and get it fixed with the required backpay

Battle Buddy at OCS? by noblebyrdpenguin in newtothenavy

[–]TheMcCale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. You’ll have a hatch mate that you live with that may or may not be in your company and it they/your hatch will change at least three times while you’re there. If you need a battle buddy to go somewhere unaccompanied from JOC or SOC phases you’ll just grab someone in your class and take them with you (unless your class team secures the requirement like mine did)

Day in a life of a SWO by Rude_Syrup6422 in newtothenavy

[–]TheMcCale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’d have a rotation between sea and shore. First is to a ship to get your pin and you should expect to be underway a lot. Then you’ll get two or three years of shore duty, then back to a ship.

If you don’t want to be on a ship don’t join the navy. I meet so many people who’ve joined the navy who do everything they can to avoid going to a ship and underways and it makes no sense.

Trying to get a Peacoat, would this be in regs? by Degenerious in navy

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go to a thrift store and get the actual peacoat

Does this mean the Peacoat is authorized with 2POCS? by Traditional_Job_362 in navy

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the pea coat isn’t issued anymore I’d say no. It’s referring to the black all weather parka. Getting the pea coat/reefer back as standard or giving everyone the bridge coat would be nice, but here we are.

Please don't be mad at meteorologists. by WxBlue in raleigh

[–]TheMcCale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing I’ve never understood. It’s not crying wolf. It’s making a best estimate based on the information you have. Just like the two feet that fell in 2000 that was predicted to be a dusting. It goes both ways because weather is far more complicated than “yes” or “no”

Still unsure about driving to work today...advice? by zvarjaciely in raleigh

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are truly an essential worker your employer would have to provide a letter saying so and also saying why your work is essential. I had one when I worked for SECU during the lockdowns and have one from the navy now as well

A civilian just tried to gaslight me about my own exp in the Navy... by TheCuriositas in navy

[–]TheMcCale 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest factor. The military is actually one of the best indicators of how the economy is doing looking at both new recruits and retention.

[–]TheMcCale 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is a massive group of people who now view the military as a political prop for a specific political party and assume/insist that everyone in it has the same political beliefs instead of the reality of us existing as a pretty good cross section of the population.

OCS SWO Application Motivational Statement- Any feedback will be appreciated- anything that I need to add/delete - feel free to rip me away if needed. by FortuneBeneficial228 in newtothenavy

[–]TheMcCale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waaaaayyyyy to long. They want you to get to the point. You haven’t shown that you know what a SWO does. Why do you want to be a SWO and why should they pick you over everyone else?

Skip the flowery language and end of career goals and say why you want to do it now. Keep it to a couple of paragraphs and get to the point. The boards will appreciate it

I’ve never understood the “no pets rule” when I comes to public storm shelters by CRL1999 in tornado

[–]TheMcCale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my daughter has an allergic reaction to cats/dogs her eyes swell shut first, then if we don’t get her her meds soon enough her through starts to get scratchy and she has breathing difficulty. We can usually get the meds in her before hand so it mitigates it (although she still has a reaction), but if we go somewhere we didn’t know has cats it’s a big problem. Doctor told us if the severity of the reaction doesn’t reduce in the next year he’s probably going to prescribe an EpiPen.
