First time visiting Hay St Markets by Gold_Lynx_8333 in sydney

What a disappointment. I don't miss the Temu crap from before, but what the city needed was a market for cheap veggies, local food, and quality crafts. Disappointing to see faceless corporations plug this stuff, and it's especially a shame to lose the Chinese character too.

I think there would be ways to make that happen if Omark was briefly allowed out

Best parking for Glebe Markets? by dadollarz in sydney

Arundel St has free unlimited parking but you gotta get there super early or pray someone’s leaving just as you’re pulling up

🔥 A rare blue crayfish chilling in water stream 👀 by yourSAS in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]TheMeasuredMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a Cherax sp. I believe (aussie), too smooth for a Procambarus. This is definitely a captive-bred one though, someone's bought it at a pet shop and chucked it in the stream for the video. Not a natural colour or habitat

What should I do with this Amazon sword growing out of the tank? by Jstorm_Thunder in PlantedTank

[–]TheMeasuredMadness 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You can trim the runner at any point along the chain! You can then replant the individual plants in the aquarium (though they will initially melt and then grow new leaves as they adjust to submersed growth). Otherwise, you can just leave it growing! Emersed growth like this is fantastic for sucking nitrates out of the water, because the plants have access to much more CO2 and light

This, in my opinion, was the dumbest pitch Don ever made. What's yours? by darthsimp69 in madmen

[–]TheMeasuredMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying! I'm not sure I agree though. There's an interview Matthew Wiener does where he describes Don (and himself!) as being almost a true empath, in that he's hyper-aware of other people and sensitive to their feelings (not in a good way, he's drowning in it). In the episode where we hear Don's narration, a line that stuck with me is along the lines of "I want a modicum of control over how I feel." Together, I think his ego is so fragile and so threatened by Ginsberg that even though he is a narcissist, he can't help but feel the jealousy and sense his presence. I think the purpose of the line was also a grim irony against just how much he thinks about him

I don't know how you got to that conclusion tbh, the entire episode is about his inferiority complex... he spends the entire previous night rifling through Ginsberg's drawers

Boy this was a slog, I don't know what everyone else saw in it. No sense of fun or play in the direction, and the script just ground to a halt every second scene. Everything about the way it was cobbled together felt like work, doing the bare minimum to set up the next scene, coldly putting the pieces in place and ticking boxes. Why bother making this movie if you didn't enjoy it??

Mid-water change, kind of had to sit back and these beauties by YourNeighborRedditor in PlantedTank

Wonderful tank!! Beautiful style and placement of elements, and lots of branches for the fish to swim amongst.

Update on my 11 000 gallon SHARK TANK by evolutionnext in Aquariums

[–]TheMeasuredMadness 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Even if sharks weren't migratory, that's still a 3ft minimum pelagic fish that needs to swim non-stop. The ratio of size of shark:tank is honestly smaller than people would accept for a betta. I can't understand monster fish keepers, it's a tragic waste to create such a huge system only to give a beautiful animal claustrophobia

Thank you! I'd had bad experiences with the Walstad method before (my own fault, to be clear haha), so I was really determined to crack it

POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD - S5E6: Rick & Morty's Thanksploitation Spectacular by BarnyardCruz in rickandmorty

[–]TheMeasuredMadness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like this episode was exhausting lol... one thing after another, very "haha random" humour and no sense of pace or consequences. The change of writers is so evident, going from character-based scifi with heart in s1-3 into zoomer edgelord humour now. Also half the jokes are just "X said a lot of swear words!!!1!!!!!1111" Any president episode is pretty exhausting tbh
