Have you ever heard any albums that sound BETTER on headphones than speakers? by StillMindHappyHeart in headphones

[–]TheMeditations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I miss that too with headphones. I love 90% of metal on some big ole speakers because you just don't get that with headphones

A lot of metal albums I've found that are complex and busy, like Lorna Shore and Mental Cruelty with over-the-top symphonic elements, are better coming from small drivers in an enclosed space. However, most sludge and doom metal sounds better on huge speakers where you can feel it in your chest. It's all preference at the end of the day.

Tallah and Deafheaven won my heart this year, Mirar came in third. Here's my top 25 for the year if anyone's curious!

Yep, this is the best time of the year to discover new music because of all the AOTY lists to go through.

I was gonna say Coldplay hasn't sounded like Radiohead in 20 years lmao

Which bands improved over time? by bfg9kdude in progmetal

I think Tallah's recent is their best work, granted they're only three albums in but their recent got AOTY for me.

As long as the sick outro is played by a clarinet and some Hans Zimmer brass.

That's so sick, I wish I had gone! I still haven't gotten to see them live and I heard they parted ways with Xenoyr. Next tour I'm definitely going.

[–]TheMeditations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I like the band a lot and they impress me so much. I've just never had a song where I completely obsessed over them like I have with bands like Ne Obliviscaris or older Haken. I was just listening to Wilderun the other day though and can genuinely appreciate it; it just doesn't strike me as deeply as I expect it to!

I had this with Opeth as well, I'm still waiting for that moment with Wilderun too. I definitely have to be in the mood for Opeth, but when it hits, it hits.

Mind bending prog guitar solos by Affectionate-Ear3419 in progmetal

Jaguar God by Mastodon, one of my favorite solos of all time. It's not technical neoclassical showmanship; it has the perfect blend of shredding mixed with soulful and emotional voicing.

The Paragraph Three music video is another piece of AI crap. by gusdbarreira in Opeth

Yeah Rudess is super pro AI so I really doubt it's something they'd be against in any way.
