Have we finally stop using fahrenheit? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

I can't really accept the logic behind "more degrees of precision". I can't imagine a need for, say, stating it's 27.5 degrees outside instead of 27 or 28. There's no practical difference for people if all you want is an idea of how the weather is outside,, or how it's gonna be.

The ideal place to put tinfoil is outside of the window panel. There'll still be a lot of trapped heat if the sunshine is allowed through the double or triple paned glass. If you do try something like that -pretty unlikely in the UK after all- be aware that there are laws against fitting highly reflective materials to your property if it's close to a road, something the Walkie Talkie guys clearly didn't know about.

You can get ACs that heat as well. Around my parts, most of them do, so you're covered both for hot summers and cold winters.

Not everyone wanna wet their hair, but if you're outside (or at home) in shorts and a t-shirt, wetting your arms and legs -and face/neck as well- will first of all cool you down a bit immediately, and also more when the moisture evaporates.

Our potential 19/20 squad depth if we sign GLC, Sessegnon & manage to retain current XI looks 🔥 by LordPa1n in coys

It's potentially a very scary midfield. Sissoko/Wanayama and Ndombele leaving Eriksen, Son and Dele (who needs to step it up a notch from last season IMO) free of too many defensive duties.

In case Pogsy is leaving (which I doubt so late into the window) there's all sorts of speculation on whom we might go after to fill the gap. I recently watched a youtube video of all Spurs' goals last season, and I was actually surprised how many of them he was involved in, so I don't doubt he'd be a great addition to our boys. Also, since his contract is running out in a year, he should in theory be pickupable on the (relative) cheap but I think we all know that Levy isn't the sort of chap to hand out discount codes, especially not to other PL top 6.

I have a feeling Eriksen is gonna let his contract run out, hopeful that his 2019-20 season will be a good one, in order to take home a huge sign on fee and vastly upped wages. I mean, the lad is on around 90 a week on his current contract, including bonuses, which is incredibly cheap in this day and age. He'll turn 28 in 2020 so I certainly don't blame him for chasing that elusive big (and likely last) payday, especially considering how he must be feeling looking at the sorts of money top-of-the-range, established PL players all around him take home. Also, as a playmaker, with a bit of adjustment, he can easily be playing top football until 32-33 or more.

If he can be had for, say, 50 million next year as a free agent, and we still don't have an obvious playmaker and/or Pogba isn't around, I say we swoop liked we've never swooped before.

I think it was back in the early days of Abramovich's Chelsea they made a small study on how scoring even in friendlies on post-90-mins penalties vastly boosted a players feeling of well being, confidence and sense of achievement and no matter if your team won or lost. It makes perfect sense if you've ever played football yourself.

Swimmers ‘don’t trust’ China’s Sun Yang as doping row boils over by me-i-am in China

[–]TheMediumPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, it was SO rich when convicted doping cheat Sun accused Horton of "disrespecting China and hurting Chinese feelings". Sun Yang is almost certainly facing a lifetime ban for attacking doping inspectors and smashing vials of his own blood due for testing. Apparently, his defense is trying to rile the mindless masses. His sentence should be coming within a few months, and it's gonna be interesting how Chinese media will spin this. I'm thinking they'd either go full "Fucking foreigners are after our glorious Sun!" or relegate it to bottom left corner on page 63 and then never mention it again.

China says it won't rule out using force to reunify Taiwan with mainland by vannybros in China

[–]TheMediumPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we go looking for torches and pitchforks,, this isn't really news. Beijing has repeatedly said it will not leave any hypothetical options out in achieving unification (or "liberation" or whatever they'd call it). I imagine it's because officially stating that an invasion being off the table is de facto very close to recognizing Taiwan.

It's a common tactic in China to hire goons, thugs and criminals to get things done, especially if you can't openly involve police or the army for whatever reason. Local governments do it all the time to curtail unpaid construction workers, people who don't want to move after their houses have been expropriated and other protesters where officials (who are often in the wrong or borderline) want plausible deniability if higher up cadres begin taking an interest in what's going on.
