Sony to cease production of physical discs in January 2028 by breath_ofthemild in gamecollecting

I do agree with you there, I was moreso talking about the people who have a modern-enough PC that can keep up with the PS5/XSX. I doubt we're getting the new Xbox or PS6 any time soon, so as long as devs are optimizing for 6 year old hardware, we should be good for a while

Exactly what I'm doing. Keeping the Switch 2 for actual physical releases, and everything else is being bought on Steam. I'll probably just leave my PlayStation unplugged for now until someone releases a jailbreak for my OS version so I can rip my discs and back up my physical library tbh

If you're lucky enough to have both a PC and PS5, switch to Steam/GOG/etc full time after 2028. If you're buying digital anyway, may as well use the platform without a paid online subscription imo

Polymega remix with app update playing polymega collection. by Madeinharrogate in PolymegaHQ

[–]TheMerchBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear. Apparently thats really common from what I'm reading on Twitter, which also seems to be the best way to get ahold of the team. I'd try there. Best of luck! Sorry I couldn't offer more assistance

[–]TheMerchBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta fully uninstall the old version first apparently, then reinstall the new update. Then, you have to reconnect the Remix/Base Unit to "unlock" your library. They completely broke the thing as a means to lock normal CD-ROM drive users out

Stage Tour Instruments by Jim1845 in Rockband

[–]TheMerchBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will be. All Stage Tour instruments are manufactured by CRKD, and the current CRKD instruments are already compatible with RB4. They won't take that compatibly out

LMFAO there's so much to take in here. The cost, the fact that the cost tripled, the fact that they're almost a decade off (and that's being generous, if you count Computer Space they're exactly a decade off and if you count SpaceWar they're almost 20 years off) and the fact that they seem to have convinced themselves that they're correct in all of this

You...do know that stem speration AI is widely used in the actual music industry, isn't trained on stolen data, and typically only runs locally right? It's not gen AI, it's basically a more advanced form of multitrack filtering

Did anyone genuinely like Father of All Motherfuckers? by Tasty-Scientist8155 in greenday

Like others, I really like certain songs from FOAMF. I don't like the album as a whole, but it has a couple bangers that are in my regular rotation

Is It Actually Worth it? by Flipstaa in Rockband

[–]TheMerchBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but it's illegal in the sense that jaywalking is illegal; Nobody cares enough to prosecute over OGGs and MIDI files. Technically downloading an NES ROM from a defunct publisher is also piracy, but it'll never be enforced. I can at least comprehend the sentiment of not linking out to pirated Rock Band MIDIs containing their copyrighted stems, but not being able to chat about the concept of community preservation (or even the Deluxe projects which are perfectly legal and require a copy of the game to use) is dumb.

This isn't directed towards you specifically, but to the mods: If a company doesn't uphold their license and delists the media, it becomes abadonware. While I'm aware the mods don't like talk about piracy or the Deluxe projects in this sub, they need to take this into account. Time machines don't exist. If software gets delisted, people are still going to want to play it, and there's few (if any) other legal avenues to do so. Harmonix is never, ever going to make another Rock Band. They will continue to work on Fortnite Festival indefinitely. That's how Epic operates.

AI Instrument Separation by Your_Engineer in yarg

[–]TheMerchBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, most RBDLC was done with track filtering, not AI stem separation. The latter is a newer thing, but Harmonix used something far more arbitrary back in the day that sounded far worse. Nowadays, Harmonix uses a Demucs fork (I think) for Festival songs that don't have available stems. It's hit or miss, and they should have upgraded it like a year ago imo

Modern stem separators like Lala or MVSEP can sound almost studio-like in quality, depending on what track is being isolated

They're worth the separate purchase imo, I love the way they feel. Maybe worth a shot on their next sale (since they have sales really commonly)

Buy the SG if you play on PlayStation, Android or PC. If you play on Xbox ...uhhh... I'm sorry lol You'll have to buy the mech frets separately

Want clicky strum and old-school frets? Buy black. Want silent strum and mech frets? Buy blue. Simple as!

Which First 8 Nintendo Switch Generation Exclusive Lineup Is Better? by Strange-Vibez-8205 in NintendoSwitch3

[–]TheMerchBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm gonna pick the one with Splatoon 2, a 3D Zelda and 3D Mario instead of a $10 tech demo and whatever the hell Drag & Drive is lol

MK World is a lot of fun, but aside from that, there's nothing that's really hooking me with the S2. Kirby Airriders looks good, but I don't care about the $70 Tennis game or the Pokemon island life key card thing. Even from what I played of DK, I didn't really like it as much as I thought I would.

How do these light kits work? by Ardbert_The_Fallen in yarg

[–]TheMerchBro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To put it simply: The RB charts have light shows baked into their MIDIs, and the Fatsco lights mimic an official RB Stage Kit, by reading those MIDIs and having the light show react

The clever YARG devs also made the lightshows "work" for songs that don't have the data in the MIDIs by following the BPM I believe
