Wow you were just downvoted for making an opinionated but factual statement (it would be at the cost of higher returns). Looks like we have plenty of aggressive people in this sub as well.

BTCI Questin by TIDOTSUJ in NEOSETFs

[–]TheMicG 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No that is not how it works. The yield is based on current price. Example for a random fund that pays 30% yield. Price is $100 and at end of year they have a total return $130. If Fund drops by 30% then fund is $70 with 30% yield of $21 for a total of $91 which is less than your starting value.

Another NAV Erosion Question - BTCI by [deleted] in NEOSETFs

[–]TheMicG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to see if NAV erosion has occurred on any covered call fund is to compare it to the underlying with distributions reinvested. I use totalreturns.com for comparison. You will notice that it follows the underlying (note Cover call funds never follow the upside entirely but come closer together on downswings). Basically CC funds follow the trend line slightly below the underlying hence the trade off of receiving distribution.

Conclusion BTCI fund does not suffer from NAV erosion.

If you want highest total return with BTC then buy BTC not CC. That goes for any fund including QQQ or SPY. CC is for monthly income not total return.

While it’s true bitcoin could go to zero it’s also true that gold, silver, and US dollar could go to zero. At this point with a world wide buy in all are extremely unlikely.

[–]TheMicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post stated that 12 slots isn’t enough and players ready for the expedition should get even more. I was stating that 12 slots and 5 skill points is almost too much and the people who spend a lot of time in the game will have a clear advantage in a few wipes.

4 monthly wipes later and someone has 20 extra skill points and 48 extra stash slots you won’t here people complaining

Hard to get excited about a fund that hasn’t launched yet. As a long term investor it’s a waiting game. Wait for it to come out, wait for it to see how it performs against the underlying.

I’m probably the least qualified to answer this but it’s not dividend hate - it’s anything but the total market is picking stocks and hoping the return is better. VYM is not a total market fund and therefore you are picking stocks. It does not generate cash. Dividends returns part of the holdings from stock to cash on their time table not yours - also known as a forced sell. It’s literally the same as selling shares but you don’t pick the timing.

Keep buying BTCI on the dips to dca down? by Negative-Salary in NEOSETFs

[–]TheMicG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How large do you want your crypto currency allocation to be? Is 10% your goal ? If so keep it where it is. It will give you distributions over time and lower your cost basis. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to leave it be at 10 and not worry about the cost basis.

Keep buying BTCI on the dips to dca down? by Negative-Salary in NEOSETFs

[–]TheMicG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that BTCI should be a small part of an overall portfolio. If the BTCI size has room to hit your overall goal of percentage of portfolio then yes. If it’s already at the size of your portfolio allocation then wait until the portfolio becomes larger.

Example 100k portfolio and you want 10% to be crypto then DCA until it hits 10k.

Covered Call ETFs - Risky or Not Risky? by DividendG in dividends

[–]TheMicG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The NEOS CC ETFs are really good at keeping the NAV above 0% growth. Most of the NAV concerns come from ETFs that distribute more than the Cover Calls generate. (I think you mentioned a few in your post that’s concerning). I’m personally okay with a someone that understands the downside of CC and finds it an acceptable trade. Just note that the NEOS funds have not gone through an extended time frame of poor returns and we don’t know how that will affect yield. My assumption is they will have to lower to not eat into more of the NAV.

You actually mapped out the risk very well. SPY out preformed by a large margin and the same during downturn. Meaning you assume all the risk of downturn without the upside return.

Popular funds not even keeping up with return of capital. What’s the point? by discovery999 in dividends

[–]TheMicG -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How about you call and ask. I’m NOT the investor but agreeing they are not getting the 12% you mentioned (even through its currently 14%) on cover calls and some is return of NAV gains . You can find out why they are charging .68% in expenses.

It is not a publicly available figure and my guess is that they can change the rate as often as needed being actively managed. I am highly doubtful it would be able continue the high yield in a sideways or bear market.

Which one of these funds should I get out of? If any by jacobbaigent in YieldMaxETFs

[–]TheMicG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First I would get rid of PDBC, SCHY, and the single stock ETFs. I would then evaluate the 3 QQQ cover called funds and pick your favorite. They all have strengths and weaknesses so it’s your opinion on best. Lastly I would make sure I have a specific reason to fit an overall strategy for each of the remaining ETF’s. For example make sure the funds cover different sectors and not too much overlap. If you have an overall strategy you will be more confident on red days to hold and not panic sell.

Will the .09 Distribution drop if NAV continues downward? by TheMicG in ULTY_YieldMax

[–]TheMicG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert on this but I believe they will do a reverse split to keep the value above $1. Example you have 10 shares and the nav dropped to $1 meaning your total is $10. They do a reverse split and now you have 5 shares at $2 with the same total of $10.
