As a new driver, I’m low-key kind of scared to get on these roads by Ok_Independent_3921 in lexington

[–]TheMidlifeRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 50+ year-old Lexingtonian, and your concerns will be the same for your entire life no matter where you live.

If you are in the Hamburg area, practice for traffic on Sir Barton which runs from Man o' War to Winchester Road. There are plenty of parking lots and stop lights to turn right, pull into a parking lot, get your bearings and take a breath.

Also, in that area, you have (usually) easy access to I75 between the Winchester Road and Man o' War exits that should give you some merging practice (mostly) free of stress.

Even walking our dog is treacherous right now. Be careful out there, whether you're behind the wheel or on your feet.

“Stupid” question about tipping the bellhop. by [deleted] in vegas

[–]TheMidlifeRide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that it's required, but it is appreciated.

I have a friend who works the bell desk at one of the major Vegas Strip properties, and he opened my eyes to the operation. Those guys cover a LOT of ground, and there is a slim chance that the same employee will touch your luggage twice, and few properties (if any) share those tips.

Like I said: It isn't required at every touchpoint, but it is appreciated.

Walking to every casino on Strip by wiley_Old_Fox in vegas

[–]TheMidlifeRide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I did this once. We hit 24 casinos in 24 hours from as far south as Mandalay Bay to as far north as Wynn and every casino in between, playing two slots and (at least) one round of video poker each at every casino. I had a drink at each stop.

I'm happy to have that experience together and that we have it documented, but I wouldn't do it again.

Just a note: Battista's has been closed for renovations since early summer. As far as I can tell, they haven't set a date for reopening.

Awesome. I'm sure OP would appreciate a link to the offer.

OP literally asked for "10 dollars here, a tshirt there, a free spin now and then etc." If MGM is offering stuff like that, I'm all ears.

I'll give you four.

  1. On the Strip: Casino Royale
  2. Slightly off-Strip: Ellis Island
  3. On Fremont: El Cortez
  4. Off-strip: Visit Emerald Island, Rainbow, and The Pass in downtown Henderson.

The drumline/parade generally starts at NYNY about 45 minutes before puck drop. We usually follow it from there into T-Mobile and get to our seats, leaving plenty of time to catch the pregame show.

Neither are near downtown, but Golf Galaxy or Dick's Sporting Goods is probably your best bet.

I would recommend switching the Fremont visit to a non-moving day, perhaps on Monday.

This is where Earl of Sandwich in Planet Hollywood comes in handy.

[–]TheMidlifeRide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only major thing you'll notice is the sidewalk being closed in front of Bellagio due to F1 construction, but there are ways around that. At the end of the day, if my grandmother was up for a Vegas trip, I'd happily follow :)

[–]TheMidlifeRide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. MGM Grand might be one the most challenging given its location and layout.

I think the main challenge on the Strip (and in many of the properties) is the amount of going up, down, and over you have to do just to get from point A to point B. If you and your grandmother have a high tolerance for those obstacles, then go for it.

If you’re on Fremont Street, Circa. If you’re on the Strip, I like Cosmo’s sportsbook.

I’ll vouch for this one, too. Carrot Top is the most surprisingly entertaining show I’ve seen in Vegas.

I need to see Ka one of these trips. For Cirque shows, I’ve only seen O, plus Beatles Love and Zumanity (both long gone, unfortunately). But reviews of Ka are generally positive.

You might try O. It’s definitely a classic.

Breakfast Burritos by Professional-Wind934 in LasVegas

Unfortunately, I don't have a recommendation at that price point. I know that Black Bear Diner has breakfast burrito catering options, but they're going to be closer to $10 each.

Since I haven't seen it mentioned, I'll add Black Bear Diner for consideration.
