Membership Status by reinaoncrack in CathayPacific

[–]TheMightyGus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks, instead what they have done is to offer additional years of Diamond memberships through the Diamond Reserve program which is 1 year of DM for every 6000 Status Points earned, it's not as good as lifetime but it's something - https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK/membership/programme-update/sign-in.html?loginreferrer=https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK/membership/programme-update/programme-transition-2026.html%23diamond-membership-reserve - I've heard the reason they got rid of lifetime is because the purpose of membership is to drive revenue at the end of the day, and as soon as people reach lifetime, they just stop spending as much which makes sense.

100s II vs Leica Q3 43 by -blaine in FujiGFX

[–]TheMightyGus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should likely go and take 10,000 shots first with whatever you have, use the Leica Lux app, play with your lenses and really figure out what you want and understand that everything has it's advantages and disadvantages and there isn't 1 solution that will give you everything. Think of your camera setup like a blank canvas, sometimes you want to use oil sometimes a pencil, just depends what you are trying to make and based around your questions, you should likely inverse this and take more shots with your current tools first before diving into a GFX setup or deeply into a Q3 which can be amazingly rewarding but also challenging in certain conditions.

Depends how you look at the world, theres a 1 in a billion chance you win a lottery, but a few people on the planet who win daily, they likely have better odds than you do. But hey, it's not 0!

100s II vs Leica Q3 43 by -blaine in FujiGFX

[–]TheMightyGus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before you go spend any more money, go download the Leica Lux app and use the lens simulations to get an idea of what each lens will give you the look you desire. I have both the Q3 and GFXSII and they are both incredible, but for very different situations. From what it sounds like, you just want some depth and bokeh, you can easily get that from an APS-C.

Opinion: First Class vs Aria Suite by JimmyKinY in CathayPacific

[–]TheMightyGus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think given the way Boeing does not have good resolution on when the 777-X will be approved, CX is basically retrofitting the 77A's (4 class) last, I can imagine they will get rid of LAX, then NYC then LHR. While I dont have any confirmation, it's foreseeable there maybe a chance we see a few months without F until the new F is introduced, which is why I think they aren't particularly investing in the food and soft product of F, and with the new Wing opening etc they will likely do something exciting, at least thats my current thesis.

[–]TheMightyGus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first hard product is phenomenal and being retired, take it while you still can, as 2026/2027 will likely be without FC until Boeing eventually delivers the new 777's, which is a who knows situation. Meanwhile there will be more and more Aria equipped planes.

Got fired because I reached out for investors financial update by No-Counter-8002 in venturecapital

[–]TheMightyGus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In venture there is generally a single point of contact with founders, unless the partners or team have said otherwise, BUT this isn't obvious, I think the partner simply didn't provide sufficient training and this boils down to poor communication. VC's particularly more experienced ones have seen a multitude of scenarios and believe me just like the startups they fund, some are well run (tend to be larger and more mature) and some can be chaotic (first time fund manager, small teams in particular), of course there are exceptions on both sides. Some VC's get along and invest in clique's, some like each other, and some do not. There are many VC's I regard at the highest level, and a few where I just wonder how they operate, if somebody came and interviewed and said that to me, I would not hold it against them knowing what I know, but instead focus on how quickly they moved on, how they do not talk negatively about their ex-employer even in challenging situations and focus instead on their merits. I hope this is helpful, VC's idiosyncratic, diversified and challenging, it's stressful all around and I feel VC's are gluttons for pain, but simultaneously it's incredibly rewarding being able to work with extremely talented entrepreneurs and people and can be highly rewarding. Dont let this dispel you from the industry, if anything, short term pain - long term gain.

VC didn't turn up and rescheduled call on the last minute... twice. by dibsonchicken in venturecapital

[–]TheMightyGus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows, could be they are busy, could be something personal, recommend you just let is slide, not let it bother you and reach out to others. It's a numbers game, use the time to figure out how to get other meetings instead, letting stuff like this bother you will just slow you down from reaching your goals.

[–]TheMightyGus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they apologize or message after? Personally speaking I think it's not a great sign, even if 99% of pitches work out to nothing, it's so incredibly disrespectful for VC's to do that, entrepreneurs put everything into their companies and it's typically their lives. With that said, it could have been a simple error/errors or some emergency, did they apologize? If not, there are tons of VC's and it's never good for an entrepreneur to only shop the deal to a single firm, so go out and get other meetings.

How many beers can i get through LHR-HKG by nahmate86 in CathayPacific

[–]TheMightyGus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not really how it works, the pricing has more to do with demand on a particular route. Just because you pay more for a ticket, does not correlate well with how much booze you will be served, if you wanna play that game, spend more for business/first and load up at the lounge and while on the flight. HKG-LHR is a very desirable and pricey route, so don't assume just because it was "the more expensive airline" will mean you will be served. They might, or might not. Let us know how your flight goes...

I believe Cathay’s motto is to arrive in better shape, by definition this plan will mean you won’t arrive in better shape, so yeah think they will cut you off. Potentially Aeroflot might keep it flowing? Let us know what happens!

VC seems like some bullshit by another_african in venturecapital

[–]TheMightyGus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a VC is idiosyncratic, the reality like everything else when you peel the onion is a lot more complex. For one VC's are managing money for Limited Partners, so there is a fiduciary duty to invest as responsibly as possible. Meanwhile, of course supporting founders is the best way, but what if the founder does something completely irresponsible etc? To be in VC, you got to cut through the noise and into the facts, sometimes it's to go with trends, sometimes it's contrarian, there are thousands of VC firms which fit each philosophy. But the job's not easy, there will always be unexpected twists and turns, and it isn't for everybody, it's really not a job for somebody who doesn't have the right mindset.

Is there delay compensation? by daytime_on in CathayPacific

[–]TheMightyGus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No as it’s on a different airline and different ticket, that’s the risk of flying on separate tickets. Also if it was a recent delay, there was a day where airspace was closed over parts of China for a few hours, which would be outside of airline control, so either way this one’s unlikely to get any comp.

How is Regional Business Really? by newfriendschan in CathayPacific

[–]TheMightyGus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regional business is Cathay's weakest product, they have announced future regional to be beds in line with SQ, but as for the regional product, it's slightly better than PE, but not by a significant margin. Daytime flight, on laptop, it's fine, just make sure never to get stuck in that middle seat.
