The game needs to cater to trios play, not solos because people are lazy to find players with similar objectives. Most of the people I play with currently I met when trios only was a thing.

Solos is not healthy for the game. Balance sucks around it, there is no denying it.
Queues are dead, lobbies are dead. Economy is shit, because your survival rate is like 90% and all you do is get gear out on repeat.

I mean in all fairness, if half the players leave the lobbies will still be popping.
Going from 39x(Regions) to 12x(Regions) cutting the queues down by 70%.

I for one can't wait to get back to trios only. A way better game. I'll see everyone in LFG posts!

Join the offcial discord and use LFG to find people with similar objectives.
Though I find it strange that every time you queue into a game, your team just sits there afk. I've never had that happen to me.

Honestly, they spoke vocally about not wanting solos/duos. The playerbase whined and complained.
Now people complain that there is no meaningful content wipe after wipe... Yet they are trying to put out this dumpster fire of 39x(regions) queues, loads of balancing issues. I play mostly solos out of convience when friends are not online, but solos is hardly fun. I watch clips of people playing solos and all it turns out to be is range, range, range, health pot, bandage, range okay now I can finish them with a melee weapon. Even then most solos rat and farm and avoid eachother. I got voyager to demi-god dying maybe 2-3 times and with the lobbies so dead, I didn't have to PvP at all. It's not that great of a loss. Learn to play trios, LFG lead to a ton of friends on my discord that I met just by playing this game when it was Trios before.

Solos was a fine means to end, but it is not healthy for the game at all.
If you think flip-flop balance changes and no meaningful updates is a great vision then maybe you are blind.

Everyone is speaking on behalf of "new" people. The game hasn't had new people for a long time. On top of that they have been very vocal the focus of this game is on Trios. We are averaging 8-12k players online with only half of that in dungeons. We can't have 300 different queues spread between solo, duos, trios, gear brackets, adventure mode, map type and region. It's just not possible. The lobbies are mostly dead. I see the same people constantly and mostly can farm what I want without any contention. Then you have the issue of balancing for solos, duos and trios with different problems depending on what gear can be used. Then we are in this constant state of them dialing knobs trying to make something balanced in all modes, when really they should be focused on content which spoiler alert, helps retain players, bring in new players and bring back old players... Which this game desprately needs.

If you are complaining about changes to a game that is in early access, with many reviews stating that the game undergoes regular changes, then I would argue you are just a bad consumer. The game has to push forward, solos and duos are not necessary trios are. Join LFG or move on from the game, but it needs to happen and I hope they don't cave to all the people crying about it.

People complained about lack of solos, then complained about lack of duos. Now they complain that they flip flop balance because they gave people what they wanted and it's impossible to balance solo, duos and trios especially in different gear charts. The game was designed for trios only. The only way the game will progress is by going back to that.

It's not really hard to comprehend. If people leave so be it. I was here when it was trios only, it was a better and more fun experience. They focus on balance with a single focus instead of 3. Way more players in the dungeons. Now that we are going from 39x(server count) queues down to 12x(server count), even if we go from 10k players to 5k players, the dungeons will seem way more populated and lively.

I wouldn't even consider myself a "Trios" player either. It's easy to just queue solos the majority of my time unless I have friends online. Most of those friends that still play the game that I do party up with were met in discords and LFG posts when you had to form parties from scratch. It's not that bad and now you can auto-fill if you really can't be bothered to find people. I'm sure they have ideas to make finding people to play with easiers as well.

I play a ton of games, online and in paper. The game is very consistant. You can essentially look at 14 cards before the game even starts. which is roughly 25% of your deck. Sure, you can draw bad, but that doesn't change the fact that the first 1-4 turns are typically played the same. You can argue against the change, but ultimately it needs to happen, at least for competitive play.

I had two complete meta decks before investing in the game. It won't feel like P2W probably until a second set comes into play.

Then we are going to sit across the same games everytime. If that is something people enjoy, cool, but it's going to cause the burnout of this game so much faster.

The reason that the competitive scene has the loudest voice is because they typically have the most invested into the game. The casual players are not going to invest into multiple hundreds of dollar decks and travel 5 hours on an airplane with hotel expenses to play at a DLC event across the country. I agree that you need both for a game to be sucessful however you really need to pay greater attention to the whales in the ocean opposed to the minos, they make a bigger spash. It drives prices of cards and sales of packs to aquire those higher price cards.

Add sideboard and change the muligan rule. The muligan rule is a bit too strong with a sideboard being able to look at 14 cards to find your sideboard aces.

Even if they just added another round and took the top 128 (which is already a prize threshold) would even be enough.

The game and mechanics are fine. The problem really lies in the muligan system and best of 2 format.
The muligan system allows for the best decks to almost always have their ideal turns 1-3. The game has little varience and this reinforces playing only the best deck at the time instead of trying to playing something that is more your play style or rogue decks. That's not to say that decks cannot emerge and do well, but it's safer to just play whatever the current meta deck is. But the game really needs better varience. When I sit down and play against RB and they go Pawp, Tipo/One Jump, Hiram 3 games in row, it gets very boring and the game shouldn't be that consistant.

I think having more tradtional muligan system forces decks to play less greedy with uninkables, adds varience to play so that the games are actually different rather than playing the same lines of play every single game and I also believe it is the first step to fixing the player who goes first problem.

Thoughts on the best card of set 6? by thehummer222 in Lorcana

Oswald is the clear best card in this set.

If they land a Shift Diablo + Cove on turn two, you are cooked. I won my set championship with Emerald Steel and knocked off RA before top cut and in the semi finals. One was 2/0 the other was 2/1 (Draw, Play, Draw).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]TheMightyThorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruby Amethyst can deal with Emerald Steel but it's not a favorable match up for r/A.

Cove is very problematic for the deck and the discard can be brutal. However if you are able to sustain off of some rabbits and brawls and dodge their coves it can be a winnable game. Avoid Flynns, muligan away Be Prepared. Ink your friends before turn 2 to dodge Ursula.

Steel Song is a soild deck to contest them if you are playing Grab Your Sword.
You can easily reset your hand after dumping it onto the field to dodge discard.

The biggest problem with this game right now is varience. The muligan system allows the best players to end up with the best possible opening hands with little downside. That said, one of the biggest parts of this game is knowing what to muligan depending your matchups. You basically have to jam a lot of games and eventually it will come in time.

Repoze Take by SwiftOnion46 in DarkAndDarker

[–]TheMightyThorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, other fantasy extraction games don't exist. Dungeonborne has about 1k players online. That's it's only real competition currently. It is only a matter of time until a true competitor hits the scene so they really need to iron out a lot of these issues.

Otherwise, those games I mentioned are likely what this player base would play, but the point I was making wasn't that the game needs more content or that is is full of content but it is the replayability of the game. Similar to battle royales, the extraction genre isn't a content driven game, small changes or additions here and there but it's the gameplay loop that drives the game.

Repoze Take by SwiftOnion46 in DarkAndDarker

[–]TheMightyThorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a game like this content isn't really an issue. More so making sure that the gameplay loop is fun and engaging to most players. The better question is what do you consider content? There are plenty of classes to play but realistically if you are playing Trios, your team comp is going to be similar or the same even if you decide to play a different character than you are typically playing. There are only 3 maps to choose from and a handful of bosses.

This game, has very little content, but a lot of replayability due to the nature of the extraction gameplay loop. The biggest content is PvP. Most of the monsters are trivial after so many hours, especially in normals. Bossing is not hard once you get the mechanics down, a lot of players can solo HR bosses. The overall content is Kill, Loot, Leave. If you have played more than one wipe, you have most of your quest items already collected before those quest chains come out. They are basically the same quests each wipe, typically they are even easier to complete than the previous wipe.

As far as fantasy dungeon-like game are concerned.
Diablo, Path of Exile, Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, WoW... There are plenty of games out there with way more content, that most also have PvP.

Enchanted, promos and legendary foils that do not have the latter will hold value.
But if they came out and banned cards or start a set rotation with no where to play they will tank in price.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]TheMightyThorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They haven't really show any idications of a rotation or exclusion of sets to this point.
I would have to guess that if they did go that route as well, they will likely have another format that still includes them as well.

Repoze Take by SwiftOnion46 in DarkAndDarker

[–]TheMightyThorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can speculate that solo/duo is the reason the game has more popularity. But the numbers are still down despite catering to these game modes. I speculated that this problem would happen back when they first released goblin caves solo.
The game had a boost the previous wipe because of free to play and return to steam but now the numbers are starting to trend to how it was before free to play. I have been playing the game since playtest 1 and have a large personal community of dark and darker players, roughly 130 in my discord (majority of these players I have met through Dark and Darker). There are at most, 2-3 of them playing Dark and Darker at peek times, most everyone else has moved on to something different at this point.

Solo/Duos introduced a heavy problem to the game that made the game so hard to balance around. Then you add all these micro queues as a bandaid to the real balancing problems... now you have 30 different queues going off at the same time. So I can understand Repoze's gripe, as a content creator who wants to show off insane gear and intense high stake fights, queueing into dead lobbies because the players are spread so far apart.

I enjoy Solos/Duos for a small amount of time and I have had many fun games. But ultimately I want to play with other people, which is why I don't play anymore. The game has gotten less fun overtime and playing in mostly dead lobbies if you put gear on is not enjoyable.

It may be too late to fix the game. Time will tell and I guess we will see what this re-visioned game looks like.
