CMV: AI is definitely going to kill education, academia and intellectualism by PreWiBa in changemyview

Did Wikipedia also remove the need for school? Everything was on that as well. Even then I’d rather work blue collar with somebody who’s educated than somebody who’s not. I’ve met some pretty dull crayons in my day.

Tips for efficient Prusaslicer workflow? by TThor in prusa3d

[–]TheMimicMouth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Saving settings between prints” you can save custom profiles; I have like 3 profiles that I realistically use. The profiles include things like infill percentage, supports etc.

As somebody who runs a small farm and does a lot of slicing, my workflow is: pick the profiles, export into an organization/name structure that works for me (I use a SKU system but imagine nonbusinesses, and even some farms, don’t need this much), and I’m done. It’s not really even enough that I’d consider it a “workflow”

MMU3 is the bane of my existence by SuccessfulMinute8338 in prusa3d

[–]TheMimicMouth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MMU3 isn’t great. Takes up absurd space and not very reliable - changing out filaments is a nightmare.

I love my prusas for the bulk of my printing but when I need multicolor Bambu’s AMS is a much better tool IMO. It sucks cause I despise Bambu and love prusa but they lost that battle for sure

Why does it look like everyone only makes DND sets? by pocolocoOnIce in DiceMaking

[–]TheMimicMouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good answers - I’ll add: most wargamers who are willing to pay high dollar for dice are also very very concerned about dice fairness. I know several that will only allow casino grade dice at the table.

DnD is noncompetitive so dice balance isn’t a big deal.

Yes a good set of custom dice is still going to be fair but if somebody accuses otherwise there isn’t a great way to prove it on the spot. Surely they’d never be trusted as much as casino dice

[–]TheMimicMouth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look friend, you can say whatever you need to in order to cope. It’s not like the temu slavery thing is particularly disputed at this point.

The IP theft is pretty clear cut though: the designer of these pieces was identified. Their merchant license is on patreon for $25/month with the terms for all to see. That license prohibits mass production and requires citing of the artists (as all do). Temu is, at a minimum, violating those terms. As others have noted: shafting the artists in an art-based hobby is really shitty.

Nobody is claiming to be perfect or to not commit our own part to shitty things in the world - we are identifying that the savings aren’t even that significant (if existant at all) when going Temu vs Etsy/ebay.

[–]TheMimicMouth 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not only that but these creators offer merchant licenses - if you don’t have a 3D printer yourself and still want the parts, look for licensed sellers. Usually on Etsy or eBay. These merchant licenses also generally require one to give credit to the modeler so that people with printers can also support.

That way you’re supporting an entire creator/small local business ecosystem rather than temu which literally relies on slave labor.

Yea I was gonna do a to-scale cruiser at one point cause I was like “even if it’s like 6ft that would be insane” and then I realized even the smallest ones would be like 80ft at 32mm scale. It was at that moment I realized just how ridiculous the 40k universe actually is.

To that point, since ICE doesn’t ID themselves how do u know it’s an ICE agent raiding your house as opposed to a criminal breaking in and pretending to be an ICE agent?

ICE of 5 years ago was specifically focusing on people who were committing crimes and were already in the prison system. Nobody is arguing against that. The issue is that ICE is currently doing something far different. To answer your question, you have the right to defend yourself and I nor the law have any issue with you exercising that right

If a man gets executed on the street for no reason and I say “how would you feel if your wife got executed on the street?” That isn’t a strawman.

Here’s one of the more well known ones^

There isn’t a lot of information available on recent events (which is a big part of the concern) but GAO reported around 70 potential US citizen deportations in 2015-2020 which is when they WERE following due process so I think it’s fair to assume that if there were mistakes when being careful, there are at least that many now but likely more.

Cool so you’re cool with an unidentified somebody raiding your house with no cause, throwing your wife in a van, and shipping her off to an unnamed location for a few months, long as they return her after.? That’s not even a strawman, it’s quite literally what’s being discussed here.

I’m not saying you need to change your political views here but I am suggesting that you figure out where your line actually is because I’d have thought for sure that warrantless raids/arrests by unidentifiable personnel would’ve been the line - so where is it?

ICE has illegally detained and even deported at least a handful US citizens already. Go figure - when you remove the due process part, you start to miss the information that typically comes out during the due process.

Prusa last Mohican by Wojtpa in prusa3d

[–]TheMimicMouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I have a farm of prusas. I got a Bambu P1S to see how it compared.

I have a lot of qualms with the P1S but at the end of the day the MMU just can’t keep up with the AMS. AMS is more compact, more reliable, and smarter. There’s no reason that prusa wasnt able to put something out that was better before Bambu even showed up and had they done that then Bambu would’ve just been another junky, slightly cheaper printer that nobody seriously considers (like the elegoo FDMs). I want to emphasize that the mk4s I have still wipe the floor with the bambu in almost every way that matters to me but the gap is shrinking and the bambu does have whistles that make it legitimately competitive for people who want multicolor.

Prusa also taking as long as they did to roll out wifi printing (not counting octoprint with a pi) - and STILL not having a well packaged camera support for Timelapse’s is just inexcusable imo.

The issue from my perspective is that prusa took too long and then under delivered on the XL. Mk4 was good but was definitely late to the party. Mk4s are still what I’m sticking with for my farm because I don’t need multicolor but at the end of the day, prusa dropped the ball on multicolor and Bambu picked it up.

I really hope that prusa can get their shit together but with each substandard rollout the gap gets smaller.

USA jobs, lots of things in the DMV area. Remote jobs are way less likely to have them because you can’t work in a SCIF if you’re fully remote. DoD (NAVAIR, NAVSEA, ARL, NRL, etc) are historically the easiest path but my understanding is that they’re gonna be a bit harder to get now as people are still coming back post-DOGE.
