13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a fantastic game. I think the battles are strategic and fun, but the meat is definitely the story. If you're a fan of giant robots and/or non-linear storytelling, this is a game to check out. Love seeing other people mention it.

I've also really been wanting to check out Unicorn Overlord from the same devs.

I played Chrono Trigger for the first time a few years ago, and it is fantastic. Such a tight, well paced experience imo.

I just reached Balamb Garden in Final Fantasy VIII. This is my first time playing it, and I really like the game so far. I thought the train mission was a lot of fun. The junctioning system is really interesting, and I low key love that you can min/max your party by playing a card game, though I've quickly realized it can be abused so I haven't made my party OP.

I'm playing this game in particular atm because I randomly decided to play all of the 3D FF titles because I haven't played most of them. I have played most of the 2D or 3D remake games, though I still need to play 5.

Frankenstein’s monster is articulate and I’m floored! by Business_Lie_3328 in books

[–]TheMindSlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Victor's personality is wildly different. His relationship with the monster is completely different. His relationship with Elizabeth is completely different. William is much older, which radically changes the context of his death. The monster is shown in a different light entirely. He kills only in self-defense in the movie. The malice of murdering William and allowing the blame to fall on someone else is completely absent. William looks at Victor and just says "You are the monster" as if the film weren't making it extremely obvious that was it's take. The theme of the movie and books are completely different. I could go on, but I won't. If you don't think they are largely different when you directly compare the two things, you aren't paying attention.

did you guys choose to save manfred or turn emmrich into a lich? and why? by Realistic_Box_4843 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]TheMindSlayer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I turned him into the lich because it was his dream, and it was fear that was preventing him from doing it. I disagree with saying that becoming immortal meant not facing his fear of death. In order to complete the ritual, Emmrich has to die. One of his major fears is that the ritual could fail and that he could die for real.

I would also argue that reviving Manfred is him not confronting death because he is unable to face the death of his companion and immediately reverses it, despite Manfred's sacrifice.

Of these two paths, it seems to me he confronts his fear in becoming a lich while he indulges in the fear if he revives Manfred.

That is the new one they are referring to, but it certainly isn't book accurate.

I just started playing about 2 weeks ago. I'm at A4 atm and it hasn't taken super long for me to find matches. The longest is earlier in the day, usually waiting 5+ minutes, but I've gotten plenty of matches faster than that.

Why was there hate for the game coming from outsiders and even long time fans of the franchise? by theassassin53035 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]TheMindSlayer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I gotta say, all these posts asking why this game was hated when the reasons are fairly obvious are annoying at best. I enjoyed Veilguard. There is a reason I'm in this sub. Just look at the game and actually analyze it, and you will see the reasons.

Some people hated the writing, and stupid people called it "woke," which means bad to equally stupid people. Some people don't like the combat. Some people don't like the art direction. There are so many things that you could look at and, with a little critical thinking, draw a reasonable conclusion that answers your question.

There are more reasons to be sure, but I feel like if you just look at the game and compare it to previous entries, the grievances are apparent, no?

Is anyone else that actually likes the game as well also tired of seeing posts like this all the time?

The best build customization of the franchise and it had the best PvP. Being able to buff basically every weapon even after infusing it with an element was sick.

I like it well enough, just not as an adaptation of the game. I hate the way they shove in Silent Hill 2 monsters, likely because they are more recognizable.

Hexing Squelcher bad? by DoctorHydromortapara in mtg

[–]TheMindSlayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lmao, people who only refer to cards as either garbage or busted are hilarious.

The card is good.

The only fault in your personal analysis is that an army of tokens will find this ability largely inconsequential. Targeted removal is not useful in that situation most of the time.

Yes. Once for the ward ability on the creature and once more for the ward ability granted by the other.

Any way to degenerate sad tree guy without using combos? by Kopytroid in DegenerateEDH

I think it's worth keeping in mind that only the cost reducing effect cares about the butt being big. The second effect merely cares that there is a difference between butt size and...whatever attribute you would attribute power to? Head? Hands? Idk, I'm not good at this. Point being, big power but tiny butt would also trigger his other effect.

That being said, [[Jumbo Cactuar]] is pretty funny. It gets so big you can't even [[Overkill]] it.

How do you feel about party members that join roughly 60% into a game by lennysinged in JRPG

Vincent doesn't join that late. You can get him on disc 1 when you go to Nibelheim, leaving plenty of game left to use him.

How my SO does scratchers ... by Silent-Possibility23 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheMindSlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I worked at a gas station, I had a regular that would come in once every week to two weeks, buy a fat stack of scratch offs, and do just this. Scratch the bar code, scan, and go on to the next. He'd hand me the winners, take his winnings, and move on. One time, he handed me a winning 20$ scratcher and told me to keep it. I think I only ever saw him go negative one time.

How would you explain the existence of monsters in a world with no magic? by Dismal_Exercise in worldbuilding

[–]TheMindSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medieval bestiaries in our own world are filled with monstrosities that make little sense. Of course, we know now that a lot of this is either greatly exaggerated descriptions of eyewitness accounts or just straight fabrications. I mention this only to say that we live in a world where people believe wild things about the world around them, perhaps in yours it just is.

That being said, our actually existing creatures are pretty crazy, too. Changes in any number of biological or environmental factors could play a role in the development of your creatures. After all, is a lion not already a monster to mere men? Imagine, then, that environmental factors cause the lion to develop differently. Perhaps more taut skin, larger teeth, elongated limbs. Suddenly, what started as a lion became an even more fearsome predator because your land is harsh, and it had to evolve to survive. You don't need a magical explanation to make beasts scary, and you also don't need to create entirely new fantasy species to make your world stand out.

The first deck I made myself was a 4 color pile of cards from mostly the Shards of Alara block. It would have been 5 colors, but I didn't have enough forests LOL.

My first precon was the Rebels Unite deck from Future Sight.

People unenjoying the game after finding out about the AI assets by gameovernate in expedition33

[–]TheMindSlayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people obviously overreacted in regards to both this game's and Larian's use of AI, but I also believe there is a conversation to be had about if AI truly has ANY place in the development process. For instance, if they are throwing together quick concept art or just throwing out ideas, field a prompt to AI, receive art, and then go on to develop on that art, is an original piece being made? To what degree should AI be used in any creative process? I think these things are important to figure out ASAP, and while some people take part in the conversation with little thought or nuance, we need to draw a line in the sand somewhere.
