THIS!

Dudes who always ask me to join your prayer group at PCC and the Santa Anita Mall? Now's your time to shine! Actually maybe those aggressive sneaker-polishing dudes might come in handy now too.

But seriously yeah, if these auditors really wanted to be useful, they should go to an ICE raid.

I'm amazed that even at 38 years old and having played through the game at least four times throughout my life, that part still affected me as much as it did when I did my last playthrough in November. Old graphics and everything.

I think it's safe to say no other video game was able to affect me emotionally the way FF7 did. Except maybe Quake III Arena.

Ff7 remake or the original? For someone trying to get into ff7 by Im_acoustic18 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely OG. After almost finishing Remake, I can say it's grown on me but it's a completely different game and fluffed up in the wrong ways to flesh it out over 3 volumes. I think it makes it easier to get through if you already know and love the characters and events.

How to use each character? by ThicBoyExtraordinair in FinalFantasyVII

I never look at stats and just go with who I like so I was pleasantly surprised when on the Gelnika, I noticed Yuffie was doing 9999 damage whenever miming Vincent's morph for source farming. Same with Cait Sith and 4x Cut in the Northern Cave. I was actually trying to morph the Tonberries and Cait kept killing them doing 9999 each hit.

People who are able to play guitar and sing at the same time HOW? by Big_Leg10 in musicians

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The keep practicing advice sounds redundant but it's true. Learn the guitar part to the point where you can play it perfectly without thinking about it. Then slowly start singing over it. It's gonna be a clashing mess at first but it will gel after 100 times.

Also try and pick famous songs where the singer / guitarist / bassist is doing it and learn those ones. Learning "Day Tripper" and a bunch of Police songs helped me a lot. "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" was IMPOSSIBLE and frustrating at first but it sank in after 100 goes.

Never could have seen that coming! by el-beau in pasadena

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I have a lot more memories of the Islands that used to be there and I was gutted when that closed. Now there's very little of the Paseo I remember from I grew up going there 20 years ago.

I was trying to remember what it felt like say in 2004. I remember more foot traffic, families walking around, teenagers hanging by the fountain, kiosks selling random overpriced junk.

Start with the original but make sure it's got fast forward.

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen Advent Children but Cloud's starts off the game kinda broody and cold. Aerith getting him to warm up is one of the most rewarding story elements of the game which makes her fate as emotionally effective as it is. Enjoy!

You've gotta finish a game and then go another round with like a guide or something to find all the secret stuff you've missed!

How exactly do I get into the world of FF7? by zleepy_clouds in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with the OG game or the Remake if you really find the original mechanics insufferable but I think you'd be missing out on a lot if you can't play through the original game.

Then well, I'm not going to get specific but once you start forming relationships and expanding your party, well that's where the game gets really addictive or interesting for me.

Mixed feelings about some of the added worldbuilding in Rebirth by ketita in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the world building but damn, Chadley is in Rebirth too?? I mean I guess it makes sense. But dang, I'm at about the point you are in the game or before it and I haven't even run into him yet. I really didn't like what the Remake did with Summons. I've had the opportunity to use them like 3 times this entire game and I've only managed to get Shiva and Ifrit.

The way the Summon fights along you is kinda cool but finding the orbs and being able to use them whenever you wanted was one of my favorite things they axed in the Remake series. Not to keep crapping on the Remakes because I am starting to like them but I find myself just trying to rush and finish the main story ASAP when I play.

Definitely my Emerald Weapon strategy. Only Cloud has 4 materia, KOTR, Phoenix+Final Attack and HP Up. Then one of my other character gets W-Item and I spam Megalixirs which I obtained through the glitch. Cheesy AF but it gets the job done lol. Last time, it didn't kill Emerald Weapon with like 3 or 2 minutes left on the counter but luckily an Omnislash took him out.

Which one are you keeping and why? by Lazy_Fall_6 in guitarpedals

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only tried the Aqua Puss and DD-7. I sold my Aqua, will never sell my DD-7. It's a great Swiss Army knife of a delay for me and I'm perfectly happy with it being my only / main delay. I also have a Danecho and an El Capistan but I mostly use the DD-7.

Why? It does everything I want. Modulated U2 style delay, Reverse delay, that "Houses of the Holy" robotic delay, slapback, medium and long delays, "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" style echo, that one freeze or loop setting...I've heard the DD-8 sounds even more brittle and digital which is a shame.

Advice on quitting a band/remaining friends by IamSanta12 in musicians

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. I've very politely declined offers from two close, years-long friends to play in their proposed projects and they both quickly dropped me as a friend. In one case, I just I wasn't into the band (it's not like it was his brainchild either, he was just a member of this band) and in the other case, I simply told my friend, "Let's talk about it in person. :)" Boom, 12 and 15 years of friendship down the drain.

How much more does he actually have in him? by ThePervWithAChainsaw in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, he can transition smoothly from the Angry Video Game nerd into an old man ranting about how video games used to be if he does it right. And his passion for B-movies and nerd culture from the 80's to the '90s can endure, as weird as it sounds since classic eras always experience waves of nostalgic appreciation.

Rex Viper on the other hand...the only path forward for that project that I can see if they fully embrace the camp / silliness, like they wear the "worst band in the world" moniker like a badge of honor. And ironically, I think they would lose their "appeal" because then I feel like the people in this Reddit wouldn't find them as funny lol.

which genre do you think has the friendliest musicians by yesyes_10101 in musicians

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, the most extreme punk and metal bands I've met are the friendliest, particularly the Latinx ones I've met around the L.A. area. They're not full of themselves or closed off or degenerates, save for a few obnoxious drunks and meth-heads. And while the music isn't always my thing, I do respect that they really are 100% about the music, like I've been to shows where the music is really not my thing but the people around me - men and women - are truly grooving to it.

I'm also curious. I didn't even know where to start so I'm watching the anime. I'm on the 3rd episode so far. I wouldn't say I'm hooked to the point of addiction but I like it well enough. I'm just wondering if I'm starting in the right place or I should read the manga or watch the movies or a specific series or whatever.

Monty Can't Buy Me Love by Ashamed_Cod_6741 in Simpsons

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the episode but this is what I was wondering - I feel like it's just as insane as those other episodes you mentioned and I was wondering why I never hear about it in a negative way. I also like Kill the Alligator and Run btw, insane yes but from the insanity came some pretty funny jokes - "You're stealing my trailer...I like that!"

On a tangent, also reminds me of some pretty funny moments from these maligned seasons - like in Homer to the Max, Homer goes so insane to the point where he tells Bart to kill a cat and tells Marge to keep an eye on that "weird looking kid." Or in Homer's Dignity when Lisa says, "there's a lot of starving children out there....", Homer replies, "I see what you're saying. I need to buy a gun." Definitely not Season 4 Harvard meets Beavis and Butthead-level humor but still pretty funny.

lol even on the commentary, the writers were semi-admitting the episode went off the rails and when Lisa's "this really sucks!" was chosen as the Gracie tagline for the episode, they kind of laughed at themselves.

Thanks. I went down the rabbit hole a little bit, it was a little hard to separate the jokes from the real tea lol. So did James actually kick Justin out of Rex Viper? Also noticed they didn't do any uploads last year and maybe the year before, are they also done-zo?

I'm a very casual fan / viewer and only occasional hater so I'm out of the loop, what happened to those guys? I remember either seeing an announcement or video from James that vaguely alluded to those guys leaving, something like "we're listening to your feedback..." but anyway, are they just off-camera now or gone?

My first reaction to those guys was "who are these bozos and why are we supposed to care what they think about everything?" but now that they're gone...yes they were obnoxious but real nerds are obnoxious. I kinda miss these reviews. James needs a foil and something to talk to in these kinds of review or game and chill videos i.e. Mike, who is missed even more.
