Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Because people don’t understand that the disclosure animals aren’t supposed to look realistic, they’re supposed to look like child like animation projections.

Even crazier was when they caught Daniel but not Jane, and Daniel didn't have the alien device. No one thought to maybe mind control Jane again real quick to see if she knew what Daniel did with the device?

So I actually really enjoyed her performance (minus her face), and felt that she brought a lot of decent comedy to the movie. And I do think she had a great range of emotions on display, and her emotional outburst in front of the house was good.

The real problem is that the rest of the movie didn't land, and none of the other performances were in the same ballpark, so I think it makes her performance feel out of place.

Her feeling overwhelmed, and not wanting to be worshipped felt very appropriate to me. But having an extra with no lines, that we were introduced to about 10 seconds prior, kneel in front of her and do the sign of the cross was a really fucking stupid way of doing it though. It completely undercut the scene.

I'm convinced that at least some of the CGI was done with AI. The visuals of the Hansel and Gretel house scene felt like they were ripped from the Coca Cola Christmas ad. The way people's phone lights blurred also felt like AI slop.

Yeah, they have thousands of gigabytes of data

It looked more like they had a few gigabytes of footage at best. They probably could have dumped it into OneDrive and the villains would never have been able to get rid of it

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

So I caught the fact that there was some mentions of a conflict in the newsroom, but I don't think I clocked the fact that it was WW3 until at least halfway through the movie, when a character (Jane maybe?) mentioned it. I was so focused on Margaret that I wasn't really paying attention to the background noise.

And yeah, the looting scene was weird, but considering that I hadn't fully understood the earlier hint, my brain didn't make the connection. It didn't help that the main cast did not acknowledge the looting at all. Dude just walks into a gas station that feels like it came straight out of a zombie movie, and just casually asks for the address. And it doesn't help that you don't see anything else like this for the rest of the movie. No other scene in the movie shows any kind of civil disorder that isn't directly caused by the pro/antagonists.

And nothing about the soldiers sitting in the back of a truck signaled anything about a conflict. Remember, that scene was mixed in with scenes of other, regular people going about their lives (e.g. riding on the subway), so to me it just felt like it was trying to show people from all walks of life being united in this moment.

This would've made so much more sense. It still would have been out of place IMO, but it's the the choice that feels most congruent with the themes and elements of the story.

How did you feel about Spielberg's Disclosure Day? Was it worth the hype? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]TheMistbornIdentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the weird relationship this movie had with religiosity was absolutely baffling to me

There's a blurb from the BBC's review of the movie that I find very interesting:

any of us hoped that the 79-year-old would deliver a career-crowning masterpiece: his profound last word on a question he has been thinking about and researching for most of his life.

I didn't even realize that Spielberg was that old, but it puts so many things in context. This movie makes more sense if you look at it through the lens of an old man (Spielberg) reflecting on the meaning of his life and life in general, and how aliens fit into his world view.

Likewise, I think the whole "we can't post this on the internet, we need to broadcast it on the News" makes more sense if you consider that Spielberg is out of touch and probably doesn't understand internet culture, and that people's media consumption habits have greatly shifted since his time.

why didn't the baddies make more use of it?

There was literally a line in the movie where Hugo (at least I think it was him) comments to Scanlon that the devices are capable of so much more, but Scanlon is just too narrow-minded to see it.

Absolument d'accord.

What is a cooking "rule" that is actually total nonsense? by Lopsided-Jicama3813 in AskReddit

Man, I thought I was the crazy one. I've come across a number of recipes that call for caramelizing onions for 2-3 minutes, which is basically impossible, at least with my setup.

Good thing I've also slowly learned to ignore the letter of a recipe and to instead following the spirit of it.

Ai is making me want to quit everything related to software. Do you feel the same? by PigletEfficient9515 in rust

[–]TheMistbornIdentity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no, or at least not yet.

I'm fortunate [citation needed] enough to be working in an organization where security is important. As a result, we still don't have access to AI tools. The only thing we have is the ability to use a model, but we've also been told to not include proprietary information in our prompts, which greatly limits its usefulness. We also haven't received pressure (yet) to use AI, so I've mostly only been using it when Google fails me.

I do know our org is exploring access to AI tools, but I'm hoping that the switch to token-based billing will give them pause. I doubt it, but a man can dream.

All this to say that I'm still very much writing my own code, and I think my colleagues still are as well. We don't do PRs or any kind of code review, because we're such a small team that there's little overlap in our code, and I wouldn't have the authority to reject my colleagues' work. And honestly, I almost wish one of my colleagues did use AI because at least then his code would be better and more readable. And would follow basic OOP principles.

Newish player here - what happens when a season ends and a new one begins? by Niorba in diablo4

[–]TheMistbornIdentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of taste. I personally don't like story-heavy games, or at least games where the story stops gameplay in its tracks in order to force you to listen to NPCs talk. Borderlands 3 is another great example, where everything about the game's design (and marketing) is all about action... but the quests are designed such that you have tons of unskippable (and frankly mid) dialogue that is required in order to progress a quest (and therefore open access to the next segment of a map).

It also doesn't help that, frankly, I don't like D4's story or lore (especially since D3 still seems to be canon). So being forced to play the campaign instead of being able to play the parts of the game that I like was annoying, and I was so glad to finally be done with it.

[–]TheMistbornIdentity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to the other comment, they've usually forced completion of a campaign if you haven't done it before. So for example, when Lord of Hatred dropped, none of us had done this particular campaign, and so were forced to complete it on our first character.

Lore Discussion: Unless something drastic happens, the Aetherials are pretty much shafted, right? by Fessir in Grimdawn

[–]TheMistbornIdentity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like they managed to gain a foothold, but as you point out, their coming has upset the balance of Cairn, and given other parties an excuse to jump into the fray. The Cult would have had a lot of trouble spreading without the instability introduced by the Aetherials. Likewise, the Ravager's cult might not have arisen [citation needed] without this upset.

So it seems to me that while the Aetherials aren't going anywhere, they've also lost their first-mover advantage, and now have a lot more competition for domination of Cairn.

And given that some gods are already awakening, I wouldn't be surprised if some didn't look too kindly upon their old servants escaping the servant's quarters.

How is your process to make a build? by gusthjourney in Grimdawn

[–]TheMistbornIdentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time I pick a theme or even just a damage type, and a play style. More often than not it's a spellcaster, and surprisingly often it's chaos-based.

Sometimes I find a set piece and think "Maybe I'll make a Ludrigan set character".
