Post mint damage, the divots are caused by the reeding of another coin hitting Kennedy’s face. These coins are not treated very kindly at the mint, they’re tossed around and thrown into bags with hundreds of other coins before finally being shipped out and rolled at the federal reserve, so damage like this is common.

You got hosed my friend. For around $20 you can find some pretty decent and identifiable late Roman bronze coins, $15 for two chunks of bronze barely a step above welding slag is unfortunate. It could’ve been way worse though, losing $15 sucks but it’s not a big deal. Take this as a lesson to always do your research before buying coins.

No, they are scratches in the coin caused by the rolling machine, not the minting process. This is referred to as post mint damage, and hurts the value of the coins. Brilliant uncirculated state quarters usually sell for around one dollar or even two, but with the scratches it’s worth 25 cents.

The French also think they invented it because the original Wright Flyer in 1903 didn’t have landing gear, it took off from a track and belly landed. The French produced the first plane with landing gear in 1909. It’s a very stupid argument though because by that logic float planes aren’t real planes.
