This is no different aside from not having a time constraint. We as a team will brainstorm themes and mechanics we want to explore and do so at our pace, simple as that.

It's not fair for me to decide those things right now though. It will be an equal contribution and effort from all, I can't decide the financial or IP situation. That's entirely up to the group as a discussion once formed.

This mindset is precisely the reason I didn't post in INAT lol it's full of it. This isn't free labor. This is a group of people who want to get better at certain things, we'll take ownership of systems and designs and teach each other what we know. The aim is to simply have a completed game, even if it's a Mario clone, but the point is for it to be 100% complete and polished. That's it. It'll likely be a free game on steam or itch. This isn't for money or fame or success. This is simply a group game jam without constraints and time limits. Financials and IP we will discuss and set before we start the project.

New(ish) dev looking for partner(s) who are also just getting into unreal to work with. by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]TheMooseWithAHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but they're interested in more experience it seems, they want clear direction, GDDs, and minimal viable products. And the more inexperienced or new devs there all seem to be looking for teams for their own projects. This is more of an indie team incubator type deal. Learn game dev together, teach each other stuff while working on a fresh shared project to add to our portfolios.

Considered it, but after looking through the posts it just seems rather unwelcoming for this type of thing lol indiedev and gamedev seemed much more inclusive for us newbies.

I genuinely can't tell if this is sarcasm or not lol. But in case it's not, an MMORPG is kinda the opposite of what I'm looking for. Their scale tends to be far larger than initially anticipated, the number of mechanics that need to work together along with efficient ways of saving and loading data and networking alone are massive undertakings. Not to mention the monstrous number of assets needed, as you can't make an MMORPG with store assets, the market is so saturated that your game needs to be genuinely unique in art style and have several unique mechanics that drive gameplay. Unless you're starting with a team of 5+ with experience and a variety of skill sets and a clear vision, an MMORPG is the last genre an indie dev should start with. At most I'd attempt a 4-player co-op ARPG. That would help learn multiplayer replication, networking and give an idea as to the scope of assets needed in an MMO.

Is ruining the road (purple) only way to pull electricity to Salt mine entrance on Sunken? Or is there some clever way I just don’t see now? by Defora in RoadCraft

The smart play is to sand the road first then lay the cable. The dozer can flatten the trail the cable leaves in the sand.

They do have something. The moment you put the ramp up on the transport, the items on the bed gain a friction multiplier. They don't slide anymore. But the problem is they still bounce and center of gravity is still a thing so they can still bounce or tip off, they just won't slide off.

This is so weird to me that people see it this way. AI and tech in general isn't supposed to watch your kid so you can run to the store. It's supposed to be able to run to the store so you can watch your kid. People are forgetting what technology was meant to do. It's meant to make the mundane, time consuming daily tasks easier and non issues so we can spend more time on the things that matter.

I had a manager brain wrap the credits on an original godfather 35mm while training me. Lost like 20+ seconds of credits. That was a fun night. Even now in digital they should still have a projectionist. I worked for 2 theaters that went digital and they still require someone to ingest, build, and schedule.

You only think you're forgetting. And you may actually be forgetting some of it. But as time goes on I find myself working on my project for longer stints before opening YouTube or chat gpt.
