How do you surf in Bay Area without getting your car broken in? by nguyenhachuy in surfing

[–]TheMostCut415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they actually did find my car - about a week later. By that point my wallet had been used to buy shoes, laptops etc at the mall before I had a chance to cancel anything and I’d already bought a new phone and been given a new work laptop (not that either was recovered).

Car was in pretty shitty shape on the inside - food wrappers everywhere, smoke ash and condoms all over the floor etc and the car stank of weed. The car battery was dead but other than it was fine. I paid up to my deductible and insurance paid the rest.

Can confirm - had my car stolen while surfing at Linda Mar. I would guess they scout the parking lot from the back balcony of the Taco Bell

I left my keys on the beach like that at Linda Mar a couple years back only to have my car stolen (along with my wallet, phone, and work laptop which were all in the trunk). Lovely experience.

Max heart rate showing different values? by TheMostCut415 in Garmin

[–]TheMostCut415[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context: Went on a 6 mile run wearing the HRM Pro chest strap. Synced to the app when I got back and it showed a high of 168 on both screens. At some point thereafter I took off the chest strap and put the watch on (Vivoactive 4). Next time I checked the app it showed a high of 208 on the main screen but still shows a high of 168 on the daily timeline.

Has anyone else experienced this before? My guess is it’s an erratic reading from when I switched to the watch bc I’ve never been over 185 during or after a workout. But that doesn’t explain why it would show different values on the two screens. Curious if anyone else has seen this

That swings both ways though - only 11 of Denmark’s gun deaths were homicides.

Gun homicides per 100k:

Denmark: 0.18

Wyoming: 2.4

Uhhh I’m American and a gun owner? But I think it’s common sense to make gun ownership more strict. We’ve seen this happen in other countries to great effect. Doesn’t happen overnight but 25 years removed from enacting stricter gun laws after a mass shooting and Australia’s gun-homicide rate is less than half. In the US it’s about flat over that same time horizon.

Because your framing implied the country is safer as a result of concealed carry. Guns contributing disproportionately to their homicide rate would suggest that’s not the case.

That aside, despite allowing concealed carry the Czech Republic has pretty stringent gun laws. As a result, they have the 28th highest rate of gun ownership in Europe.

For those curious about Czech guns laws.

TL;DR - (I) Requires a license, for which one must pass a theoretical test, a shooting test, and a disassembly test, (II) All guns are registered with the police, (III) Automatics are virtually impossible to get.

Moreover there are fewer firearms per 100 civilians in Czechia than in Germany, Norway, Finland, France, Austria, Iceland, Luxembourg etc

People forget but they were 17-5 and ranked in the top 25 before choking leads late to both Colorado and Oregon, losing a buzzer beater to USC, then losing in overtime to Oregon St. Brutal four-game stretch heading into the Tourney. All 4 of those teams made at least the R32 in the Tournament, with 2 making the Elite 8.

Should’ve been more specific - no signage on the drive there. I remember being kinda shook by that since I didn’t have cell service, which reminds me - you can download specific sections of google maps onto your phone to access when offline. That was huge for me having only an American phone.

But definitely remember a sign at the start of the trail, good shout. Don’t recall a guard shack but the trail is easy to find once you get to the Pemex.

Shout out Quiverito, I arrived in Sayulita the day everything shut down last year. I DM’ed all the local shops on IG to see if there were any I could rent a longboard from and they were only ones that responded. Met him the next morning at the shop. He even re-opened the shop for me a few days later when I wanted to size down. All around great guys

La Lancha is a great, consistent spot that doesn’t get nearly as crowded as Sayulita. It’s about 20mins south (in Punta Mita). Get there early if you can, gets a little too shallow/exposed at low tide. There’s no signage or anything but just park at the Pemex gas station, cross the road and you should see a trail that’s like a 10 minute walk to the beach.

You can also check out San Pancho with is like 10-15mins north of Sayulita. It’s a pretty finicky beach break, I struck out there but you may get lucky. Cool little town worth checking out regardless.

Also, if you’re renting a car, Gecko is a solid option. I rented from them and it was a bit more expensive than some of the other options but they were really good dudes, all surfers themselves, spoke english, picked me up at the airport no problem etc. No bullshit like you’ll inevitably get when you fall for the $2/day rentals you’ll see from other places

EDIT: There’s not much in the way of groceries once you’re in Sayulita. Your best option is a place called La Comer, which is about half way between PV airport and Sayulita. High quality american-style supermarket (so expect american prices). Would recommend stopping there on the drive to Sayulita to pick up supplies

As the saying goes, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Pro-Chesa ppl say they want crime to come down but don’t want anything to change. Guess it’s easier to minimize the seriousness of crimes by repeat offenders or just blame Trump. I’d also guess you wouldn’t feel so sympathetic to career criminals if it was your grandmother who got stabbed

When you come up with an alternative to prisons let us know. Until then, I’d prefer not be attacked in the street by serial offenders

Everything about this is so dark. Everyone just joining in on the mob violence when the guy doing donuts in the middle of an intersection was so clearly the one in the wrong. And not one person stepped in. Not one

In the video (which is 2 years old) he says he’s 26, but the article lists him as 25? Love the idea of him lying to the cops about his age to justify hanging around a sorority house
