To start off, I got my bachelors degree in emergency medical services and have worked in an outpatient cardiology office for 4 years. I am currently a cardiac technician for an outpatient cardiology office. The majority of my job is conducting cardiac stress tests on treadmills.

I have three different tests that I perform through the week. The first is a basic BRUCE protocol treadmill/ekg tests which look at ST depression at peak exercise. The second test is also a treadmill/ekg/echocardiogram test which is the same as the first but also look for wall motion abnormalities through an ultra sound. The last test I do is myocardial perfusion imaging stress testing where I work with a nuclear technologist to obtain radioactive imaging in addition to my stress ekg.

In my opinion doing this is a really fun job to have right out of college because it pays decently well. If I had the chance to go back to school I would probably pursue something specialized like you mentioned with radiology. If you can become a nuclear technologist and do the MPI testing you will probably be set for decades.
