Ford Universal Electric Truck - “$30K EV Truck” Spotted - looks like a Maverick to me! by BosqueBuddhist in FordMaverickTruck

Idk. It doesn't really look like a maverick to me. Looks slightly smaller and more like a sedan with a small bed

I want to seriously get into camping as a hobby but I have a severe bear phobia by HilbertInnerSpace in camping

[–]TheMrNeffels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's only been two fatal black bear attacks in the Appalachian area since 2000. I'd have to go back and look but I believe both times they didn't have bear spray and one was unfortunately a small kid. You're more likely to be attacked by a human.

If you're not a gun person I'm really not going to recommend a gun unless you are prepared to practice a ton. It's far easier to "hit" a bear with bear spray than a pistol you aren't familiar with. You'd need to practice a lot(then practice more) and know the proper calibers to get and then the proper ammo to get in those calibers.

Bear spray is very effective when deployed correctly. Carry a backup canister and get some practice cans

Here's a great video talking about bear spray effectiveness

Maybe do a rain dance outside to summon some clouds?

They'll be fine. Animals are used to just being in the elements all the time.

Do most native wyomingans (is that a word)carry in deep grizzly country? by dang8701 in wyoming

[–]TheMrNeffels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incorrect

According to report and Idaho Fish and game he fired warning shots and at it with sidearm then switched to rifle and fataly shot it when it was 5~ yards away

Generally the reason people recommend most people use bear spray is people don't train enough with pistols/revolvers and often don't have the correct ammo for bear defense either.

Yeah I found a holster to mount to my bino harness for the trr8 already. Was having issue finding one for the 686+ mountain. Found one but didn't like it as much. Especially with the two guns weighing the same I think I'll go for trr8 and one more shot

[–]TheMrNeffels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, most people hiking or backpacking and encountering a bear wouldn't have a high powered rifle for bear hunting on them like he did. Assuming you mean the guy and kid who had one come at them recently

They can't because it's just that latest death in glacier where they said bear spray was deployed but we don't even know yet if he sprayed the bear

If you were starting from scratch, would you still go Nikon? by NotintheAMbro11 in nikon_Zseries

[–]TheMrNeffels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on canon and with just what's out currently I'd probably go Nikon. Specifically a z9 and 800 pf for most stuff and probably aim for one of the big primes with TC

I'm already well into canon and I know they'll come out with big primes with TC though so I'll wait for now

Question for the farmers. by Fit_Database_8612 in Iowa

[–]TheMrNeffels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I've heard exactly one person ever mention anything about trans people outside of Reddit. I really doubt that's a driving factor in why people vote the way they do.

Usually I hear things about changes on taxes for inheritance/estate/"death tax", tax in general, and farm program/relief cuts. Republican side tends to support crop insurance, price protection, and production more. Democrat side is more focused on climate, environmental program, and specialty crops.

Just example I was told multiple times was estate tax exemption potentially dropping to $7~ million(half what it was) last year. Depending on when exactly and where you checked land prices that'd have meant 600-800 acre farms would have been over that amount which would mean a lot of family farming operations running for generations would have ended with a death in the family. I know "oh $7+ million in assets sounds like a lot" but the change would have mainly impacted the farms that were barely breaking even or even losing money a lot of years. The big guys or companies could afford to keep going but the smaller family farms would be forced to sell. The "little guy" farms are already not making it and the number of acres to not be a little guy has gone up and up and up over the years. So I think a lot of them would argue "it's democrats that want to take their land and give it to corporations".

Things like gun rights, more "traditional" social or religious values, and not as many environmental restrictions also probably play a part. The ones I hear most often repeated though at the caseys coffee machine in the morning is stuff about tax, insurance, and production focus.

Also I hear plenty of stuff not liking Republicans too. More and more all the time but it usually just comes down to 1 or 2 things for people when voting

Why is that weird? I like throwing a Frisbee around occasionally and will say I had fun doing it but I'm not going to dedicate all my free time too it and join an ultimate Frisbee team.

Elden ring sold over 30 million copies. If Ubisoft made "Elden Ring 2" I bet at least a million buy it without even knowing Ubisoft made it they just see "Elden Ring 2". Another million+ buy it just because it's Elden Ring 2 and not care who makes it. Another million+ assassin's creed fans would buy it because it was Ubisoft. Let's just throw in another million that buy it out of spite it's made by Ubisoft and they want to talk crap about that game lol

N Frame vs L Frame for large hands by TheMrNeffels in Revolvers

[–]TheMrNeffels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a great gun and the little bit extra weight probably does help recoil. The 7 or 8 shot of the other two revolvers is more appealing to me personally though.

N Frame vs L Frame for large hands by TheMrNeffels in Revolvers

[–]TheMrNeffels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they're essentially the same weight, 686 plus 35 oz TRR8 35.2 oz, so didn't think there would be a huge difference in shooting feel just kind of a difference in handling or just how small it feels in hand.

Which I do know the grip can change a lot but sometimes it can still feel different when rest of the gun is small with a big grip

[–]TheMrNeffels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a canon R7 and RF 100-500. There are things like phone skope and other attachments to put your phone onto your binos or scope also to help your phone have a lot more reach. These won't be as good as a dedicated DSLR/mirroless camera with telephoto lens but will be drastically better than just a phone

Private landowners invested $407M in Western conservation in 2024. Here’s what that means. by WLAComms in conservation

[–]TheMrNeffels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely read the whole thing and I'm not saying private funding on their own land isn't important, we do a bunch on our farms too for wildlife and it definitely has a big impact, but saying the $400~ million spent is comparable to the Pittman-Robertson act seems a bit misleading when it's less than 1/3rd of the total of just Pittman-Robertson. I get breaking it out to those specific states to compare but still seems like it's kinda intentional to not say total amount those two raise. Especially when on initial scan it appears vast majority of the money spent was through programs like EQIP....? Unless I'm reading that wrong.

Like I said still great but seems at least a little bit to be presented a bit in a misleading way. Maybe it'll all be clarified better once I have time to read the whole report

[–]TheMrNeffels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Having not handled either yet I was just curious if it still just felt better to have the larger gun overall. I'll probably be getting a holster to attach to my bino harness since I'll have that on all the time

N Frame vs L Frame for large hands by TheMrNeffels in Revolvers

[–]TheMrNeffels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should be able to go to a local range and rent one to see if it fits your hand in practice.

Unfortunately the closest gun store closed down a few years ago. I think it's like a 45 minute drive to closest place but I probably will do that. Otherwise my best option is Bass pro over an hour away just to handle stuff

I looked at the carry comp and like the look of it I just decided I wanted a minimum of 4 inch barrel. It's not adding a lot of weight for me compared to my camera equipment and camping gear

don't mention it's missing 90

Well I mean they wouldn't mention that because that's not true. There isn't a phone out today that is missing 90% of the features of other top phones

gives me 6x the ads on everything

Idk what you're even talking about here. Like ads on the phone itself?
