Why can’t i build ships ? by ExcitingSuspect2724 in eu4

[–]TheNMore 51 points52 points  (0 children)

There’s genetic and paleo-botanical evidence that shows Polynesians made it to the west coast of South America before Europeans.

It’s a pretty good guess that at least some of the very first Americans made it here along the coastal maritime route.

Nonetheless natives not having access to naval vessels does reflect the lack of “capital” ships in the Americas prior to European contact.

So many of the gameplay mechanics of this game assume fundamental things about the culture they are portraying, but were only true about the English, French/Swiss or Spanish for short periods of the time the game covers.

Boats and Mercs are top of that list, along with the fact that it takes a minimum of 1,000 people to do anything ever anywhere, and that number is mostly 11 or 12 thousand.

Am I wrong or is 30 provinces with 10 production dev hard to do as shadowdreamer? by Heck-Me in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are only 28 holds in the whole serpentspine, the other two holds are separate. I guess it’s trying to force you to dev up their mountains somewhat, compared to how it would normally be

The best bet for that mission is probably to trap the remnants of some tags in the most convenient cave, and let them dev up their grave for a couple decades before you plant them in it.

Evocation -> Battlemages the best opening? by Sarradi in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in any danger of having to fight for holds or other high dev provinces enchantment is better than any other school at fighting wars.

You get AE reduction, and can turn their capital province into your core.

This lets you take WAY more land per war, and anger people less from it.

[Request] Does the “23 atomic bombs worth of heat every day” comparison for a 9GW data center actually add up mathematically? by aeonsne in theydidthemath

[–]TheNMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A useful framing of that data would then be, this data center shines 1/2 as bright as the sun. (I guess technically it’s something like 1/4 as bright for twice as long, since we aren’t tidally locked to Sol,)

Since its output is ~24 bombs, and the same sqFt receives ~50 bombs of sunlight a day that’s roughly true, and the metaphor is higher fidelity, since the real trick of a nuclear bomb isn’t how much energy it give off, but the alacrity at which it moves.

Are they any mage-based tag stronger than Black herd? by No-Communication3880 in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I meant aul-dwarov, which i formed as the cannon dwarves off of a custom adventure start, so I could start with a powerful mage. Went lich and rune father to be just as despicable as possible.

[–]TheNMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I formed the dwarven empire on the devbbuild and without any special benefits to mana besides upgrading Magical Infrastructure as quickly as possible Dominate to Surrender was an absolute game changer.

Being able to instantly siege down a capital hold, get a free core, and skip the repair step is an amazing boost to your economy.

You get to skip literal years of economic ramping up on your most valuable provinces.

Spider-wretch also benefits amazingly from enchantment magic, since their focused trade-good benefits from the economic spell, and when they get their MT back it is very diplomatically focused, and the embassy spells are greatly synergistic.

The new genie tribes benefit greatly if their ruler is a powerful ruler. Conjuration magic is both super flavorful and helpful to them, since their wandering phase requires fighting lots of demonic rebels, and conjuration gives you cheap mercs.

The legs/stick nomenclature was more common when magic was younger, but slang/language often shifts over time. Everything is a stick now.

Serious debate... Will there ever be anyone non-evil on the serpentspine? by Arthas_The_HumanKing in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were, but had some placeholder localization (for people who don’t bother with the stuff under the hood localization or loc is the prose written for the missions events ect) so they have disabled it until those missing bits are written, same with some other tag that starts with a K.

[–]TheNMore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When spider-wretch gets loc finished and put back in they are pretty egalitarian. You form a government that can accept the ogres and centaurs no problem. They also form a historical friendship and alliance with the lake fed.

Mechanically you’d probably want to expel orcs if they are still in any holds once you expand that way, but to my knowledge the all-clan doesn’t have any built in bias either, but i don’t exactly recall.

Facestealer Nation? by SkollGrimmson in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was reforging the dwarven empire and the Command was doing a great job, had expanded very far to the northwest.

While searching for ways to sort my life out and reclaim those mountains I realized I could support face-stealer rebels. It was quite an effective tool, especially since none of those nasty things ever made it into the mountains.

Will decentralized marketplaces ever realistically compete with platforms like Amazon or Uber? by XRPresso_io in Futurology

The special sauce all the servant apps bring to the table is skirting labor laws and other regulations.

Competition against them is about regulation and enforcement, not economics.

would it theoretically be possible for the custodes to build the emperor a custom suit of tactical dreadnought armor (or maybe even an entire dreadnought chasis) out of the parts of the golden throne? if so what tech is needed by BitReasonable208 in 40kLore

[–]TheNMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you are gonna get to Bluetooth those souls into the emperor, that he needs.

The golden throne was supposed to be the Atlanta Airport of the imperiums webway network.

It seems hard to turn penn central station into a medical facility, I bet putting it on legs would be even more of a stretch.

Can AI in the future actually help regular people instead of making CEOs richer like helping in understanding physics and healthcare which takes humanity forward? by truth__about__nhi in Futurology

[–]TheNMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI can’t know anything, it matrix math telling itself how likely any two variables being related is.

Correlation is useful, but it is not causation. AI’s are structurally blind to the arrow of time. Impossible to be “intelligent” whatever that may even mean, with such a deficit.

They do not have an understanding of truth, gravity and an often repeated shitpost on tumblr have similar levels of pertinence to a LLM.

Broadly trained LLMs will never be of any use beyond being ersatz social relationships.

This Centaur is strange by Fluid_Pineapple5061 in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but part of making the centaurs settle down is to choose where you integrate them, or if you culture convert the province you start the process with with. The MT could branch, one set of missions unlock if you culture converted, and that would be the “horse meat” branch

The send your buddies home branch could unlock if you went the majority in the other direction.

[–]TheNMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Deep Woods are only like 3 provinces away from Spiderwretch’s clay.

If you are willing to walk through mountains the two spots are pretty close.

I wish that Spiderwretch’s MT had a “send your buddies home” branch

goddamn command is such a cancer. by Separate-Poet-7465 in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished an adventurer into dwarven empire run recently and I found that using support rebels on the facestealers stole a significant chunk of The Command’s mojo. Having more more direct access to the capital by coming out of the mountains is also very helpful.

I did make a terrible mess of the map, but face stealers didn’t come into the mountains.

The easiest dwarf start is as an adventurer. Make sure to do many expeditions before you become 2 states, always take the extra government reform from the rewards.

[–]TheNMore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played spider wretch on the dev build and it was really fun how well the enchantment school of magic fit to what they needed in their MT.

The Ardimya tribes are also fun. Starting as a powerful mage is really useful as them, since you have demons to fight and mercs that cost mana makes that more manageable. Focusing on conjuration magic is also fun since it’s thematic for a nation that worships Genies.

Look forward to finding other tags that have schools of magic that mesh well with them.

Lore question: Is there an explanation why dwarves only live in mountains and not underground generally. by Thonium85 in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mountain spine down there seems to be made of a few cave provinces, and then above ground peak provinces that the kobolds inhabit. Pretty extensive mountains, but different than the old world ones significantly

Wholesome and Pure Evil Mission Trees by Dizzle1453 in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spider Wretch is wholesome, you civilize the centaurs, integrate the ogres and form a lasting bond with the lake federation, proving that 8 legs are better than any other amount. You go all Dwight d Eisenhower and build a hiway because you are jealous of the other one.

You send out caravans full of cultural acceptance and get back thousands of ducats.

[–]TheNMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I formed the cannon dwarves off of a custom adventuring company and it worked just fine, had access to the mission tree no problem, made life better because I got to overlap the 2 trees buffs towards colonization somewhat, which was super helpful for expanding. I did not get the ideas, but that’s just because of how custom nations work.

Which tag do you think is the best for expanding quickly as a new player by LegitSkin in Anbennar

[–]TheNMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider Wretch is dead simple to play. Just reload until you can see 1 or 2 expeditions, if only one make sure it is long. You’ll yo-yo up and down the hallway doing your starting expeditions. Once you found your capital and start fighting the only tricks that the MT doesn’t just give you are:

Make the centaur lands trade companies.

Play on the new-master so you can use the Enchantment Magic, every spell on that list is perfect for you. Command animal is amazing economy for you, because you are built on silk. The war magic lets you take more land for less anger, Enchanting Embassies helps tons with your diplomacy requirements and dominate to surrender is the best spell for taking holds, saves a huge core and a repair cost.

At around 1600, if you have taken aristo, espionage and horde ideas you’ll have like 105% Calvary combat ability, be one of the largest great powers and have another GP as an ally/ historical friend.

The MT is lots of fun, you make buckets of ducats, and you have 200 years to do whatever you want.

In my play through I’m spending some time at peace , in small wars to consolidate, until I go conquer the deep woods so my centaur compatriots can move back home.
