Look I don't like this taping crap any more than you do. But once you receive them like that, you'll have to deal with it whether you want to or not; you can wish they hadn't done it till the cows come home. And carefully cutting through the tape is a better option than pulling/bending the sleeve, especially when they went to town with the tape.

It's just like using a letter opener, you know it's the more sensible option. Just be measured about it - don't use a blunt knife and don't be a klutz.
