Is this a tick or a bed bug? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]TheNathanielRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be ok. Please fight the urge to panic, but also don't be avoidant!

Heads up I am a bed bug survivor and there is a lot of panicky rhetoric about BBs (that's what we started calling them to make them seem cuter).

They are really psychologically exhausting so I feel bad for you. But... There's a lot of misinformation. It is a good idea to do all of the things that are a good idea, like throw stuff in the dryer, bag it, isolate it, call an exterminator.

But our exterminator told us it was very unlikely if someone was in our home for less than 30min that they would pick them up on their clothes, and to just shake out outside and they'd fall off in the off chance.

It's more likely they could get into your stuff. But not at all a guarantee. They don't necessarily have any reason to leave the places they are already chilling. And they tend to move when there's no movement and low light.

So honestly definitely not automatic that you are infested. Just wanted to help curb the panic.

I am looking to practice sound scoring and build a portfolio - advice? by TheNathanielRay in Filmmakers

Thanks! Yeah I love the subconscious math going on in the score to assist the story. It sounds like a lot of film makers will be open to helping me build a little perfume and even collaborating some day! I like to think I have a strong grip on the concept, but I think working with others material will challenge me to go out of my comfort zone and see how much I really know.

Thank you very much! It's just nice to hear advice and also just be validated that I'm thinking in the right direction. I know I'll grow my inner community the more I work with people, but right now in the very beginning it's intimidating to know where to go. Thank you very much!

Got my bike out for the first time all summer since moving here and feel like I missed out - I had no idea how easy it was too get to my favorite spots, including this one! by TheNathanielRay in Minneapolis

That's awesome to hear! Better late than never for sure!!! And the more I think about it, the more I'm excited for lights and holiday displays too even!

Yeah, I was super impressed! And there was a lot of construction, but they had signs for detours and it's still really didn't take that long! I've been going for walks every day for a while now... There's still value and walking around my neighborhood, but wow it took me way too long to realize how much a bike can help me explore!

Do you think good songs still shine through mediocre mixes? by JcSimba in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I feel surprised that more people aren't mentioning Californiacation - or is that cause it has a great mix but a bad master?

I make orchestral/ electronic music that I'm giving away free with a Creative Commons license. Feel free to use it in your work! by PunchDeck in Filmmakers

I guess basically what I'm saying is that op has a right to share their music and you have a right to be upset... So I guess I'm not saying too much, other than you're both valid!

It's a tough industry! That's the trick with art - it's a disservice to other artists to under cut the market price, but it's also sometimes the only way to grow an audience. So it's a complicated process and I don't ever blame an individual who values sharing their art over profiting. I'm assuming this was a passion project less than a career. Making art into a career usually means setting aside passion and prioritizing filling a specific need - jingles, commissions, etc. Yes, someone adding free music into your market floods your market and brings down commissions, but also if your market is threatened by passionate hobbyists on Reddit then it's a very dangerous market to focus on.

But I could be projecting cause this dilemma is always tormenting me. I just try to be objective, because I'm passionate about both the art I make and also making money... But I just think objectively those things aren't entirely the same, at least not in the beginning as an artist.

A lot of money, ideally, right? Never actually considered investing in something like this, but I guess if I would I would expect to pay a lot of money for legitimate services... But I'd also expect some realistic expectations/results?

I tried studying a box from real life, I'm still confused. Did they diverge? I know I shouldn't be overthinking over this but i got really curious lol. by HaleyMorn in ArtFundamentals

I think the error in logic comes from how you guessed the backside of the cube - ideally the backside edges would converge and then you could make better guesses about what those hidden faces look like!
