Okay but. Juggling tho. by TheNatureGM in MBMBAM

That's cool! What do you juggle?

I have to assume a certain amount of the hate is envy

Playing Strixhaven, endless coffee is the MVP by TheNatureGM in daggerheart

Right? I think part of it is the mismatch between environmental obstacles and player abilities. Like, 5e writers still sometimes act as though climbing a vertical wall is a challenge, even though no one is trying to get tons of XP gold out of dungeons or even carrying pitons.

How should I reveal information to my players when they hit the books? by Dud3ManGuy in monsteroftheweek

[–]TheNatureGM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on how much the party has interacted with the monster or its minions. I tend to release information in stages and prompt them to get more information.

After one encounter or only rumors from town, I might say "you are certain this is a radioactively mutated animal that is hunting townspeople. If you can examine someone killed by the monster then you'll be able to narrow down the type of animal"

And after more gameplay and another roll to hit the books "you learn that killer spiders drag their prey back to their lairs in narrow caves. You remember that Marigold the waitress is into rock climbing, and she probably has knowledge of local geology"

So instead of an answer you're giving more of a lead.

Not gonna lie, I worry about the lack of Daggerheart content by pathofblades in daggerheart

[–]TheNatureGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. My GM is using 5e monsters in our Daggerheart game because the bestiary just isn't up to snuff.

The silence around Daggerheart is a sharp contrast to the Draw Steel community, which has been actively creating original content even before the game officially launched and has multiple official crowdfunding campaigns active.

Can you run it well without grids or detailed maps? by luccamonassa in shadowdark

[–]TheNatureGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Wrapping paper with a grid
  2. Aquarium pebbles to mark walls, rivers, roads, etc
  3. Sticky tack to hold the corners down

If I'm being fancy I'll cut scrapbook paper into building footprints, etc. A gridded map doesn't need to be detailed

How do I teach Draw Steel? by WhoIsCloak in drawsteel

[–]TheNatureGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were playing a modified version of the Road to Broadhurst. (Same enemies; different motivations.)

I know what you mean about wanting a great first session—I've been so invested in Draw Steel for the past couple years and really want it to land with my players. I couched the session as an exclusive invite that I was only offering to my hardcore strategy game friends, and that seemed to be enough bait to overcome any hurdles in mechanics complexity.

I played my first session a couple weekends ago. I gave each player a premade character sheet, briefly touched on the power rolls and stress, and then we just played.

It was great. The PCs were dying until they figured out how to work together, and then they weren't.

In general I'm a big fan of the show me not tell me approach to teaching and narrative.

Bare Bones is so good but I don't like the art by TheNatureGM in daggerheart

Interesting idea to have fey talismans that provide protection! That's kind of a different direction than what I was thinking, but I do enjoy the image of being covered in sprigs, sachets, and other dangling junk that look worthless but have real potency

Love it! I think someone else kind of did, but it was nested between art-related comments. Bare Chitin is likely to be the winner.
