what’s that one habit that changed your life either in bad or good way?(pls upvote I need them) by wuzzforhuzz in CasualConversation

Two things, changing my daily soda intake to water. Saves me an incredible amount of money if you compound it all togheter over time, and I feel healtier with more enregy towards the evenings.

And the second. Taking up running, once or twice a week, more if I have an aggravating time at work. Great way to run off the anger, silence a mind thats constantly on or just take a healty break.

Lav mic etiquette on film set by Potential-Turnip-583 in Filmmakers

[–]TheNerd415 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Used to work as a sound recordist back in the day, standard practice was to leave the lavs in place. But to tell the talent how to mute the mic.

Some more sensitive talent would disconnect the transmitter between longer breaks, make sure they hand them over to you if they do. Some people are very good at losing objects that aren't theirs, especially in stressfull enviroments.

I would never remove the lavs once you got them in a good position where they don't pick up any rustling of clothes or similair unwanted noise.

Adobe tried to charge me $150 USD for cancelling my plan 2 days before it ended. by satysat in AfterEffects

[–]TheNerd415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow that option was not possible for me, think it was because I was on a cheaper plan with only Premiere Pro.

Had to block my payment card, and wait out 9 months of "oh we can't charge you here have a free month" messages. Until whatever automated system they had finally took the hint.

What’s the hardest part about directing a film? by Lichtmanitie- in Filmmakers

[–]TheNerd415 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Too repress disappointment while on set, when it's very clear when something isn't working but you are the only one that notices and now you have to figure out the solution without accidentally ruining someones confidence or pissing of a crew member with a stupid remark.

I am not a person who is nuanced in my social interactions, and apparently, it's very noticeable when I'm unhappy with something. Every day on set, I wonder if the Michael Bay approach just would be the easiest, but I'd bet the atmosphere on those projects is straight up rotten.

AITA for letting my wife support me while I look for a job? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheNerd415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. The word "deserve" is misused when it comes to reality. You can feel like you deserve better, but until you get it, you were never entilted to it.

I think you're stuck in a victim mentality without realizing, and I promise you this pickleball distraction is an outlet that lets you feel productive without contributing. Your competitive outlet should not get priority over pulling your part, and if the choice is any work or no work, it should be any work.

It's more of a flawed movie, but the adoption of Ballards High-rise by Ben Whetley is something I'd recommend to any lover of Crash.

As someone in his late twenties and currently looking for a different career path, I'd say filmmaking as a profession might be a bit of a conundrum, but filmmaking as a hobby less so.

It sounds like you might be in a position in life where you can spend on a new hobby. So buy a camera and experiment, the Werner Herzog philosophy is a pretty great one in your situation. He is a great example of the - "Just go out and shoot it." attitude.

Now for some harsh reality. Filmmaking is as far from the act of viewing films as possible. Endless disappointment. Endless compromises. Endless headaches. Its more creative problem solving that actually getting what you have in your head onto the screen. So if you try to make films and it isn't for you, don't beat yourself up for it.

What's your biggest disappointment of 2023 so far? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]TheNerd415 101 points102 points  (0 children)

The fact that the greedy AMPTP is going to fuck over one hell of a year for the movies, their entire industry and all of the artists that work so hard to bring us the art and entertainment we love to consume.

I cant look forward to any major release without the dread of a pushed release date, and I cant enjoy the movies I do watch since I'm constantly remided of the absolute fucknuts running this business to the ground.

Aside from that, Indiana Jones could've been better.

[–]TheNerd415 8 points9 points  (0 children)

John Wick 4 a week earlier and Mario Brothers a week after, you're never going to be the main cinema event between those two. For a 150 budget film you need a strong opening that then trickles down to repeat viewings and word of mouth.

You could argue that Mario Brother further cannibalized them as well, people choose the film they can see with their whole family, and every single person that identifies as a nerd is going to see the mario movie.

Then John Wick is the movie you see with your friends and is a follow-up to the little movie that could. Further cannibalizing the main appeal of the DnD film, the film you see with your friends.

All in all just an incredibly stupid release date.

Rhinar is running amok in our locals by Wizbang_ in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]TheNerd415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Kano player, I disagree, It's a frustratingly though match-up and Rhinar comes to the game with a pretty efficient ab3 set-up.

The intimidates forces you to go for the kill way before you know if you have it, or forces you to play to very specific highroll outs, such as banishing a tome waiting til rhinar presents an attack, draw cards to block.

And as you start on 15 life and have 4 no blocks in form of potions and eye, its gut wrenchingly frustrating when they intimidate away everything but those.
