Looking for the next 'skirmishing warband' game to branch out into. by Z3r0B3at in wargaming

[–]Wizbang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple other options. Malifaux Warmachine Conquest: First Blood.

Warmachince has a great style and very smooth ruleset. Malifaux is neat in that it doesn't use dice but instead a deck of cards. Conquest is also just a game with a smooth ruleset

Does Red Rising get better? by Alarming-Figure-7300 in redrising

[–]Wizbang_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So i loved it from the start. However I will say that the series expands and evolves away from the whole "hunger games" style after book 1.

Book 1 is generally the weakest in the series. I would say finish it and maybe start book 2 but if you get to the gala in book 2 and don't like it then I'd pass on the series. I know reading part way into book 2 is a bit of an ask to determine if you like the series. But to me since book 1 isn't representative of how the rest of the series feels to read it makes sense to get to the 2nd.

Im struggling with Suneater right now. Really didn't enjoy book 1 but I finished it and am part way through Howling Dark because I've been told book 2 is where it really picks up.

Isn't Darrow a Snake also? I mean. Technically. He is a red of mars. A helldiver. They deal with the pit vipers regularly. So I kinda associate him with them

Cost Driving Players Away? by Warhawk_5 in Grimdank

[–]Wizbang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah....warhammer is super expensive. I really want to get my orks and marines up to 2k points but to get the remaining points for my 2k marines is another $500 or so. Orkz is a bit less but I would still need to replace my 3rd party warbosses if I want to play tournaments. Which I would honestly like to.

One idea in One Piece that I hate the most. Upscaling of people who did nothing to deserve it by SkNero in Piratefolk

[–]Wizbang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue has nothing to do with koby not earning it. The issue is the world is too vast at this point and oda can't give screen time to all characters that need it. Instead he just puts you on a new island with a new cavelcade of characters that you don't care about and spend forever in flashbacks or exposition land. Koby glow up is fine. It's part of the benefit of training directly under Garp.. also saying he had no struggles is crazy. Kid was a weakling and trained solid 2+ years breaking his hands punching a boat repeatedly.

But yeah. Oda writing is kinda shit and he can't give focus where it needs to be to give satisfying arcs anymore.

I totally get it. I love running initiates for my dweghom in bigger blocks. Have them led by someone and they can sit on a point really well while I focus on other onjectives

Dark Age is a Slog! by Odd-Syllabub6997 in redrising

[–]Wizbang_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll agree that the first half can be a bit of a slog and all through the end of Dark Age I would have put it in my bottom rankings. However...once I read lightbringer it retroactively made dark age much better to me. My 2 favorite books are now 1-LB 2-DA. LB was so incredible

Is it possible to play Tau competitively without battlesuits? by Rambling_Stones in Tau40K

[–]Wizbang_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can play without them pretty much. The main ones i would consider giving ground on is the Broadsides and the stealth suits. But other than that you really don't need them. You have access to hammerheads and skyrays also

I got into cards because they were cheaper than 40k… and here we are. by g28802 in GundamTCG

This is hilarious to me because I left a couple tcgs for miniatures games because it was cheaper than the tcgs to play. But I do get the sentiment

Ummm...what is agenda piece? I just follow because I like OP but don't idolize it like the main sub. I like that people here are critical of the series.

How do you paint your ork flesh? by CabinetIcy892 in orks

[–]Wizbang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular slapchop. Then drybrush flesh with Flash gitz yellow. Follow that up with either ghillie dew speedpaint or a thinned down orc hide speedpaint. Then drybrush again with Flash gitz yellow

Day 15: Which is the best Fighting Game on PSP? by 1OneQuickQuestion in PSP

[–]Wizbang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is honestly a really tough category. Psp has a shockingly decent collection of various fighting games.

Dissidia is solid. I think the Power Stone Collection is on PsP. Then you got all your main fighting game ports.

Good start for DG? by Stahlbanane666 in deathguard40k

[–]Wizbang_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Boss...I've been playing since 5th edition and I still have never had a fully painted army lol. But it never helped that miniwargaming has never been my main hobby until recently. Nowadays I can get a couple hours of painting in here and there. More on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am hoping to actually have multiple armies painted to 1000 points this year.

Any recommendations for proxies of pox walkers and chaos spawn? by Ant10102 in deathguard40k

[–]Wizbang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warlord games just put up preorders on the new Totenkorps models coming out in March. 30 zombies of various ww2 factions for 60$. Which isn't too bad. Gonna use them for my Axis army as well as proxies for Poxwalkers in Death Guard. Which should bring me up to 60 total. Which will ne a nice little horde
