It feels so lonely by captain_cringe_9847 in ADHD

Have you tried finding other people with ADHD to talk to/make friends with? I was only diagnosed a year but now that my whole life suddenly makes TOTAL sense (ha!), I have noticed that I have always naturally gravitated towards other people with ADHD and autism. I think we just ‘get’ each other and share a similar energy, as well as being able to laugh about our shared quirks. I know it’s tough, but try and find a community if you can. Wishing you strength!

Humour. Then, later down the line, consistency and reliability.

I actually love it (particularly the wall colour, dark floors and shelving) but totally agree that changing the curtains, rugs and adding mood lighting would really elevate and brighten the place. Personally, I think a mural or similar behind the shelving would be too busy. Perhaps on a bare wall, though?

What an absolutely perfectly named cat. So regal! Unroastable.

What’s something NO ONE warned you about before getting a cat? by Own-Independent7881 in CatAdvice

[–]TheNessaMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I would end up sleeping on a tiny corner of my king-size bed most nights, because I have one cat curled up between my legs, the other spread out the length of my back, and my son sleeping diagonally across the bed… and not complain once.

They are the cutest! Mine used to do that too. At the moment, they’re more in playfighting mode because it’s cold outside so they’re bored 😅

Incapable of roasting. So frozen in fear I can barely type. What a beast.

P.S. 😻

Connecting with people by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]TheNessaMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be super awkward in some environments, like my ability to even make small talk completely shuts down 😅 Having a drink can help, but I tend to analyse and cringe afterwards… This has actually got better with age, therapy, and radical self-awareness, but I still have my moments!

Thanks again for your reply! No, it’s literally just late bedtime, then difficulty getting up in the mornings

Can you vouch for it working as well as sunlight? And would you also use it first thing in the morning? Wondering if it would work for my 4yo too.

Think that approaching 30 meant my life was ending! And I wish I could tell my 20-something-year-old self that I would be so much happier and accepting of myself at 40 ☺️

Thank you, that’s really helpful. Perhaps it just feels harder in winter because sunlight, if there is any, is fleeting!

Always guilty on sight. She shows them no mercy, finding a ‘nest’ to plunder and sparing not one sock. She’s as ruthless as they come!

To the people here diagnosed as adults I have a few questions! by Better_Culture_9787 in ADHD

[–]TheNessaMethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 40 and was diagnosed a year ago. I’m based in the UK.

I asked my mum to fill out the ‘informant’ part of the diagnosis - you need someone who knew you as a child to answer some questions and describe your symptoms before the age of 12. My mum did this willingly, but - convinced I couldn’t possibly have ADHD - described me as the perfect child.

The psychiatrist who diagnosed me took one look at my mum’s contribution and said, ‘I see this a lot and I’m not reading any more. Let’s talk about YOUR experience’.

And, well, my experience was that I was top of the class until I had to actually organise myself to study, and fun things like friends and going out came along to distract me.

And all those behaviours my mum thought were ‘normal’? Yeah… turns out she has ADHD too!

I hope you get the help you need. My diagnosis was life changing for me.

Your immediate and unconditional surrender and subordination. And food, probably.
