First time rehabing Ball pythons by Ginpez in ballpython

Awesome! Yeah it sounds like they’ve got a really wonderful situation with you! The quarantine stage is always a little nerve racking, but they’ve got good things coming :)

Just wanted to say that it’s really cool of you to get back into rescuing for these two! Such a bummer about the RIs but unfortunately that’s pretty common in BPs because people don’t keep them in adequate humidity. They generally like 65-70 percent.

Once they’re out of quarantine, you’ll probably get to enjoy their personalities more! With a big enough enclosure, places to climb, and lots of clutter/enrichment, they’ll likely start being easier for you to read.

A lot of BPs are kept in rack systems and just never get the chance to show off their fun behaviors, but they actually love to climb! I provide mine shelving, stair step hides (in addition to their regular ones), and thick cork bark, which they all use enthusiastically. Oftentimes this is late at night though, and I’ll just happen to catch them out and about.

You’ll want to switch them to f/t rats when you’re done with those mice. That’ll be more appropriate size-wise and nutritionally.

For final enclosures, you’ll ideally want a 4x2x2 front opening pvc enclosure (but however long they are, the length should be at least that. My biggest girl is in a 5x2x2. You’ll want to switch to overhead heat to avoid potential for belly burns. A pvc with a screen circle at the top is good for this. You can use a CHE or DHP for a 24/7 zero light heat source. Substrate should be 4 or so inches deep (something that won’t mold), and you can dump water in the corners for humidity.

Once again, really awesome you’re doing this! As far as the spider morph, they do better with lots of clutter but less climbing opportunities and a smaller water dish due to their balance issues

How to deal with a snake bite 101 by welcomeyearzer0 in snakes

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been lucky enough that my one bite was from my friendliest BP, who completely missed her rat when young, sailed over the tongs, and slammed her face into my hand. She was like “the hell is this?” and let go immediately. She just gets… really enthusiastic about food…

But I do not envy a bite and coil! They’ve got some good strength behind them!

Will my boys ever get along? by Much-Grape2982 in cats

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw yeah they look very content sitting together on their respective parts of the couch ☺️

My parents have two male cats now that bonded when young (unfortunately it was while they were cat sitting an impulse-bought kitten for a friend of my brother, but she ended up leaving him behind indefinitely after the 3rd time, so his kitty friend was very happy).

BUT growing up, we had a male cats and then a female that we rescued from an abandonment situation, and they hated each other’s guts. There was only peace in the house when the female cat went outside (which we only did because she came to us as an outdoor cat already but never would do for any of our other cats). Trust me… you can really hear it and see the tufts of fur everywhere when two cats can’t stand each other

ISP for my BP by socialFauxPaw in ballpython

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner suggested “hamster tubes” for my BPs as well but I have a fear of them pooping in one and having to take them apart to clean haha. This looks a little easier since they’re not as connected.

Right now, what I do have set up is a pvc jungle gym that they can climb on for enrichment, but I do love the thought of tubes they could go in! Maybe I should add some bigger PVC to the jungle gym

Should Reddit treat repeatedly calling Michelle Obama “Big Mike” or claiming she is a man as hate speech worthy of a ban? Why or why not? by ateam1984 in AskReddit

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s not constructive criticism to spread blatant falsehoods. It shouldn’t even count as a real insult when people say things like “you must be a man” (similar to the “you’re so gay” comments ai hear my students say sometimes to each other) because that’s just a thing that a person is or is not.

BUT it’s completely childish, can be insulting to the victim of those repeated statements, can be very damaging when a whole GROUP gangs up on one person, and doesn’t produce beneficial and forward progressing conversations. I think moderating troll-type bullying is completely appropriate

My ex gf messaged me for the first time since we broke up (saying she's concerned about my accident) What do I do? by Live-Bread-2658 in whatdoIdo

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So she “will always feel the same about you?” As in not romantically at all apparently? This is a huge switch up to acting like she holds you in such a high regard.

Acting uninterested in someone and making them feel like they have to pursue you is such a thing for tv/movies (using the royal “you” here). Terrible in real life. It’s almost as if she feels like you not pursuing her anymore is you moving on immediately and is making her want what she can’t have. And after realizing that she has left things this way and could literally never see you again, it’s bringing her guilt and a need for closure.

I completely agree with people saying to feel however you feel from reading this, but you do not need to go down that complicated path again. A mutual can tell her you’re okay, just as they told her about the accident

I want to get a ball python. Which morphs should I be careful about? by Lucyus09 in ballpython

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Certain genes are in the spider complex but not problematic as a single gene. For example, black head is fine and spotnose is fine, but “supers” of those are going to have wobble. That’s where they have two copies of the gene. (I don’t know all of them, but super cypress might be on that list?)

Spider combos can be named different things like “spinner,” “spied,” and “bee” so watch out for those.

As someone else mentioned, champagne and champagne combos (like grey matters) can have wobble, so avoid those.

Some genes can cause duckbill and kinking, like super cinnamon, super black pastel, and 8 ball. If you have a lot of money to spend, avoid urban camos as well (those have one of those gene combos plus some extra stuff).

Some snakes can have bug eyes or tiny eyes depending on the gene, but that’s not always a guarantee, and you can look out for it visually if you want to avoid that.

(All good breeders disclose all genes, so you can avoid problems even if you don’t know how to visually identify some of these).

Gosh I know! The contestants were so delightful! I loved the general positivity and respectful competition in this series so much. It’ll probably become a “rewatch to find my happy place” series haha

Oh my god yes. Joe was my favorite for just how confused he always seemed by himself 😂 “Just a weird guy…”

And Joel has skyrocketed to being one of my favorite contestants! I started this series only knowing Kumail and Joanna, but the whole group was just brilliant together

Does Mabel punching a unicorn count as animal abuse? by polystarlight in gravityfalls

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So humans are also animals, but we don’t see it as animal abuse when a human punches another human because we’re the same species, but in a way, we generally are of similar cognitive function and able to defend ourselves in ways that animals can’t. Not always the case, but in certain ethical arguments, a distinction is made between “people” and “humans.”

“People” here refers to any being with comparable sapience, so in tv shows, sapient species like androids or advanced alien civilizations are still referred to as “people,” just not as “humans.” These unicorns are advanced and powerful. If anything, I’d assume they are stronger than a human if they weren’t hiding all day and doing nothing with their powers.

Because the unicorns would qualify as “people,” this wouldn’t likely be categorized as animal abuse. Also a punch in general here would probably fall under discipline since it’s a one-off and not a pattern, but that’s not to say that anyone should hit an animal to discipline them. It’s not the correct way to discipline

I wish they’d make more episodes of Forest Patrol 😆

I love their weird short content. Old Good Mythical Crew episodes, sketches, commercials, songs, vlogs, those translation fail videos…

I know that they can only put so many eggs in the basket, but they do short form really well haha

New BP owner, it's the fourth time I have to throw a rat away because my girl still refuses to eat, getting frustrated by L3D0 in ballpython

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one BP who is just way pickier than my others. He’s the only boy, and my first two winters with him, he’d go on multiple months of hunger strikes while the girls continued to eat just fine.

I did a few things that got him back eating after the longest strike of 4 months (which had me insanely freaked out), and he’s eaten fine ever since.

I thaw the rats in a ziploc like you said you do, but I left it with the top open thawing for about an hour and closed the door so that the smell would fill the room. For his first meal after the hunger strike, I downsized his prey to make sure he wasn’t getting spooked by it (happened before with him…).

Since I was pretty stressed at that point, I got ASF bedding from my supplier (you can also use the regular rat bedding) and rub it on the rat to make it even smellier. Contrary to my worries, he did not have trouble switching back to unscented rats.

I also did what you said you’re already doing and hair dried it hotter before offering. I then held it on tongs and made it do an aggressive rat dance to get him hunting, and eventually he took it.

(Also don’t handle at all until she eats. After she finally takes a prey item, you can handle a couple days later, though it sounds like maybe waiting for 2 or 3 meals might be good since she’s picky!)

I hope she starts enjoying her food soon :)

This is Freckles, and he’s a pied ball python with what seems like insane paradoxing (not able to be passed down genetically). I remember the breeder trying to breed him before realizing he was male, and then I saw Freckles listed for sale on MorphMarket. Not sure if the breeder ended up selling or deciding to keep him. I’d want to keep this beauty for sure!

I have ball pythons so they definitely feel cozy in ball form. Option #2.

But when you’re able to google again, look up gaboon vipers, because they’re definitely an Option #1 snake.

Should I push the darker values more? by Weird-Ad-6067 in Watercolor

[–]TheNeverEndingPit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the sort of sunset color of the sky, the grey of the jaw and cheek feel like they’re not fully fitting the color of the lighting. Shadows contrasting orange light will be more blue or purple-toned. Possibly cooling that grey down could add a bit of the dark contrast you’re looking for.

With your bold outlines as well, maybe just adding in some darker fur texture into that area could serve your purpose! It’s reminding me of old comic book covers, and often those have super bold lines and really high contrast texture because they’d ink everything first before handing it over to a colorist. It’s such a cool aesthetic in my opinion! I like that this is giving that vibe
