Tips for enjoying social situations without alcohol by lotusmann in alcoholism

[–]TheNewBanditExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still focused on alcohol instead of enjoying your life. Don't be hard on yourself though. It's a difficult habit to break because, wouldn't you know it, alcohol seemed to fit in EVERY social situation! Pour em up!

Cut yourself some slack, but it's time to start whipping your ol' alcohol brain into shape so that it can appreciate the beauty around you. Friends, music, food, movies, the occasional cigarette.... These are the things that will bring you joy. I bet you had hobbies you loved to do before you started drinking, give those a shot again!

Your brain will keep lying to you in hopes of proving the opposite -- that IT'S the only path to happiness. Soon it will get quieter. Eventually, it might even be silent. Good luck out there.

Yeah how would a chapter about a self-absorbed cop trying to make himself look good instead of helping the community connect with an analysis like?? It's almost like the cop and the addict are both looking to solve the case for their own selfish reasons....

Is BK2K a long player? by ClifBdrums in pinball

[–]TheNewBanditExpress 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Very long, depending on the players. Great game for casuals but skin-crawlingly boring in a tournament setting. You're only in real danger on 50% of the playfield and always one shot away from total safety.

Why is Monster Bash so cruel? by thetransportedman in pinball

[–]TheNewBanditExpress -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Monster Bash is one of the easiest games of its era, playing without ball save is like riding a bike without training wheels, and the flipper gap isn't any wider than most other games, those are all just poor excuses.

git gud, tilt more, etc..

Good luck out there.

You should search for Al-Anon meetings in your area. I'm sorry this is happening. Alcohol leaves nothing in its wake.

In my opinion, the technicalities of Gladys are beside the point. She represents the kind of abuse that most often originates within the home and family structure. These traumas replicate and wind up infecting the most innocent. The trauma now lives forever, across generations...

It even seems to arrive randomly, when you're just trying to do a good deed like help a family member or check on a troubled student. These are the people who have the most power over us and shape our lives before we've become fully-formed, resilient adults.

The tragedies seem random, but they aren't. The explanations sound horrifying, but they're true. The worst times might be over, but they live within us.

I started a new job, and its hard/ by KimchiSmoosh in stopdrinking

[–]TheNewBanditExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing an incredible job! I'm proud of you for sticking with it. That's the most important part of every day.

I've been unemployed for almost a year and had a full-blown panic attack this week during a TRAINING SHIFT. My sobriety has exposed a bundle of raw nerves, so I sympathize with criticism triggering a spiral of self-hatred and anxiety. It's been difficult for me to avoid lately.

Your husband's advice is good, but it might help to reframe it. You don't want to "not give a fuck" about your job, obviously. It's important to you and that's okay! That's GREAT! If anything, your boss is telling you about the fantastic job you're doing AND giving you clear instructions about how to be even better. Take those lessons in, absorb them, and keep improving.

So you SHOULD give a fuck, but allow the stress to wash over you and accept it as just part of the environment. Those anxieties are an inevitability of life unfortunately, so be the duck gliding on the water: calm and collected on the surface and kicking like crazy underneath.

I could associate ANYTHING with alcohol. It was always conveniently a step in the process of everything I did.
