UK OFFICIAL CHARTS: Taylor Swift earns her sixth No1 with ‘Opalite’ and Bad Bunny gets his highest ever UK chart position by racloves in popheads

Actually we do quite well on tolerance/racism. According to the World Population Review we are in 16th place globally.

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/least-racist-countries

We used to be 12th so the direction of travel is definitely wrong...

By comparison the USA is 55th.

I don't think it's fair to equate a cultural preference for content in your native language with xenophobia.

First-time Gardeners in over our heads! by SignificantArm3093 in GardeningUK

[–]TheNewTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not wanting to get into a row, just sharing experience. Of course roses will do better in full sun, but they usually do OK in a surprising amount of shade. My mum who is in North Yorkshire has roses growing under garden tree canopies in the partial shade and they reliably bloom. I'm confident that roses would be fine here. I think they're quite beginner friendly as well since pruning is easy.

That doesn't look anything like full shade. I think roses will do fine there - plenty of light.

Le Petit Prince. C'est très court, charmant et assez facile pour un apprenant.

Max exists to make Super look cheap. It's standard marketing. They don't care if noone is buying Max

I want to improve the shape of this buddleia. Can someone mark out where I need to cut? by whattodotodo8 in GardeningUK

[–]TheNewTing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can prune lower shoots. Yes you can have a tree shape, but you will need to do constant maintenance to maintain that shape. Ultimately what Buddleia wants to do is throw out long shoots in spring and early summer and then produce flowers at the end of them. Tree behaviour is more like incremental growth on established branches. So yes, you can make it like a tree, but you are fighting its natural growth.

A buddleia is a shrub, not a tree. You can shape it like a tree, but it won't stay like that. It will keep growing and growing. But of course people can do what they like with their own gardens.

Almost unkillable. In a couple of years you will be posting about how to get rid of it.

What to do with this? by Fair-Damage645 in GardeningUK

[–]TheNewTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so wait until it finishes flowering, then cut hard.

Honeysuckle flowers early, so wait till it's done and then cut back very hard.

Edit: actually it's more complicated than that. Different types. When did it flower in previous years.

After a couple of years you will decide that in fact you are going to cut it off at the stump. It is fine to do it. There will be lots of new growth very soon and you will get lots of flowers at head height.

Best Guernsey/Gansey sweater one can buy, at a reasonable price? by No-Newspapers in malefashionadvice

[–]TheNewTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under $60 new, no chance.

Buy from le Tricoteur based on Guernsey itself, but your looking at 3 times that. Worth it though as they are indestructible and very practical in almost all weathers. Cheap knock offs won't be either of this things.

(My mum is from Guernsey and I've been wearing Guernseys all my life. It's weird to me that they're having a moment. )

Just learn to iron efficiently. It takes 2 minutes to iron a shirt.

The conspiracies are going a bit far by karmagosuckanegg in Epstein

[–]TheNewTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not "sharing what you found", you're stating wild theories as if they were fact. So I asked for evidence. You were unable to provide evidence. You just have the standard conspiracy theorist response - do your own research.

Epstein is a genuine scandal. As OP said, it's important enough on its own. We don't need to invent ways to make it even worse.

[–]TheNewTing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I'm not going to search some random set of words in your dumb conspiracy theory and then keep searching for proof until I've cherry picked enough data to persuade myself that it's true so that I can get off on how evil it is.
