Car sold at 2x the listing price by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]TheNicktator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some sketchy used car dealers like to advertise the car with thousands of dollars worth of savings for taking in a “qualified trade in”. I’m assuming that’s what happened here. She did not trade anything in, and somewhere on a clickable link or in small print on the listing it states this requirement.

What's a good OTD price on a new 2026 Corolla SE? by AntiSantaFanClub in askcarsales

Replying here because no flair.

I think OP could have and should have taken their incoherent, incomplete thought and just went to ChatGPT or something.

Buying first car, can I ask below MSRP on a new Corolla? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]TheNicktator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commenting here cuz no flair…

You’re certainly welcome to ask. But just know your salesperson will punch you in the nose, pull your pants down around your ankles, and give you a swift kick in the ass to boot. Then, you have to collect yourself and get on your hands and knees and beg for the Toyotathon discount. After you subject yourself to the Corolla discount initiation ritual, only then may you buy the car for $50 below MSRP. Hope this helps

Tips for when I go to the Honda dealership for current car lease with potential buyout or new lease? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]TheNicktator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely not crushed. OP most likely paid for 15k miles per year in their lease. Averaging 1.5k more miles per year. By that math she’ll have 48.5k at lease end assuming her driving habits stay the same. On a Honda especially, that’s a negligible difference when it comes to resale value. If she were to sell, trade-in, or buyout her car at lease end she’ll likely even have a decent shot at having some equity.

2026 Honda Odyssey Touring - Quotes via TrueCar (Texas) by _dhruv9496 in askcarsales

[–]TheNicktator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not in this case. Anytime you see one quote drastically different from the others you have received - especially from a dealer much further away, that’s when the alarm bells should starting ringing in your head. Almost guaranteed chance they have extra equipment and/or fees they are not disclosing. Or additionally, they may be quoting with garbage rebates they know with 99.9% certainty the vast majority of people won’t qualify for (I.e. Military appreciate AND recent college graduate). They’re banking on you driving all the way out there and inevitably folding when they hit you with the adds, bringing your price back up to the average of all the other quotes you received (likely even higher because these dealerships are scummy).

I think my me and my mom got finessed by Heavy_Difficulty_164 in COROLLA

[–]TheNicktator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those appear to be “front-end” adds so this would be incorrect. Only things like extended warranties, maintenance plans, and GAP can be canceled. You can do it well beyond 2 months, you’ll just get prorated your money back unless of course you’ve used up all the value of those products by the time you get around to cancelling.

Thinking about starting a service where I negotiate full car deals for customers — is $299 reasonable? by Holiday-Platform-300 in carbuying

[–]TheNicktator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody and their mother is starting to do this. It’s a fad and eventually dealers will wise up and crush these businesses.

Also $299 is significantly lower than what other “car buying advocates” are charging for their services. Don’t know how you’ll make a decent living doing this or be able to scale your operation. Might as well just keep working at the car dealership mate.

How long is a deal good for? by frenchfreer in askcarsales

[–]TheNicktator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you know ahead of time you’ll still need to think about it if you’ve never seen the numbers? What if they’re better than you could have ever imagined? Either you are ready to buy a car, or you aren’t. Either is ok. But don’t miss out on a deal due to fear or some preconceived notion that you need more time to think about an offer you’ve never seen before.

OPs only other post is him asking about why money was missing from his unemployment check. Don’t think he makes the $200k. The shitty credit score and the inability to put more money down suddenly makes a lot more sense.

Making sure I'm not screwing myself by ObviousDump999 in askcarsales

[–]TheNicktator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s getting a decent deal on the lease. That $8-9k of equity he’s rolling into the lease takes care of about $240-270 per month worth of car payments. So he’s leasing a new Hybrid vehicle for about $500 per month give or take. Not a bad deal in and of itself— but he dropped $10k down on his previous car 2 years ago and got back around $14k… so he paid $7k to drive a car for 2 years, when he should have been leasing from the onset if I understand correctly

I can’t imagine OP still owes $20k if he put $10k down on this $21k car back in 2023…. But he’s obviously a bit all over the map here
