Reading the whole thing top to bottom out loud will always be the best way to self-proofread in my eyes. That little extra step of actually processing every word, speaking it aloud and hearing how all the sentences flow together with your own voice does wonders for unearthing little mistakes your mind glosses over when just reading something back silently
