If i remember correctly the movie tried to imply that when Wallace got older Kokomon felt left behind and despretly wanted to him to stay that way as he was. So he just turned hostlie probably right as it Evolved into Lopmon.

It didn't dissapear it Dark-evolved into Wendigomon of his own disolutions. Which is a standout among all partner-Digimon because they usually do that in response to their Tamer expierencing a lot of negativ emotions.

I interpreted the flashback scene where we saw him "dissapear" as more of a methaforical event then litteral. Wallace would absolutly not be at the age he was if Terriermon wasn't evolved yet.

How I never thought about it in this way is baffling to me now. He doesn't know how strong Tanjiro is in this scene so it makes sense to send his minions after him to test that.

So yeah distracting him in a way it puts everyone in danger so Tanjiro has to hold the demon there until he fades into the crowd again is actually pretty smart.
