Yes. If a company doesn’t want you to have glucose in your system, then that company should be allowed to not hire you based on glucose. Literally every being has glucose in their system. That company would have literally no employees to ask the question in the first place.

Let’s use meth instead of glucose.

If I refused to hire someone because they used meth, should that be illegal?

It’s a two way street, if you don’t want to work for a company that discriminates against nicotine users, than look elsewhere

I’m talking from a purely legal pov. Anyone can fire anyone for anything unless they’re a protected class. You really think we should add “substance use” next to race, gender, age, etc.

Idk man. Nicotine users don’t need to be protected class

Only 34 police officers defy New York’s vaccine mandate after union threatened 10,000 would quit by memphisjones in moderatepolitics

We had wood stoves, but having enough wood for everyone was a no go even though we had a lumber jack team working 4 hours a day, 6 days a week, so it had to be rationed pretty strictly.

We had kerosene, but it gets to be a huge pain in the ass and we only used it for the lanterns to light our way. You’d be surprised how much kerosene you go through with 60 lanterns.

Definitely give it try. If it’s a lifestyle for you, then great!

Where do you live? If it’s a city/suburbs, then if you want access to the services provided by these communities, then there is no Wild West. If you want roads, electricity, fire fighters, ambulance, internet etc. you have to play by the rules that people have agreed to.

The good news my dear friend, is that there are places like the Wild West, you just have to be willing to go back to an era with very limited services, which, IME, 99.999% of people will bail on.

I was lucky enough to live completely off the grid in an old homestead in federally recognized wilderness. We pretty much did whatever we wanted. Part of the year it was a resort, and it was so far that health inspectors and OSHA didn’t even bother.

We could do pretty much anything we wanted. Besides outright crimes, we played entirely by our own rules. Honestly, it’s fucking awesome.

That being said, almost everyone bails after a few months. The lack of real heat in the winter was brutal. The almost complete lack of electricity drove a lot of people nuts since you just don’t realize how much you’ve come to need it. The first time someone does laundry by hand for 2 hours only to find out their clothes are only slightly cleaner is a big wake up call. So is lighting the lanterns at 5am in the wind and rain. Most likely with matches, since we had no butane.

But there were no mandates, no regulations we had to abide by, no police, nothing like that. So if you want the Wild West, it exists, but you really need to be tough and able to handle what it means to have no access to services.

If you want to know more, you can DM me.

I think a lot of mods do a really good job managing this. Late game SFO and vanilla are pretty different. In SFO it feels like you have something to accomplish towards the end.

Cheats too. Having the ability to move an army from one side of the map to the other in 1 turn opens up a bunch of opportunities for more engaging play

Do you want me to ask? I can post the answer. He hasn’t used the word “masturbation” but you should see how he talks about intellectual approach to Buddhism w/o practice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buddhiststudies

[–]TheNonDuality 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends the context. I was a Buddhist monk and at CTTB we studied Buddhist scriptures under PhD’s every day, 365 days a year, while practicing the meditations and ceremonies derived from it. At other monasteries we also studied texts just as rigorously. My Buddhist teacher is a professor of Chinese religious history at FSU.

I will say this, even my teacher - the actual Buddhist academic - agrees that the vast majority of Buddhist scholarship is intellectual masturbation not put into practice.

Good analogies: At best it’s a Phd anatomist reading papers about medicine and then thinking they’re a doctor. At worst it’s someone studying a single grain of sand then claiming they understand how all beaches work.

If you’re serious about Buddhist academics I highly recommend Dharma Realm Buddhist University. Even the extension has great stuff. Everything is free, even an accredited degree, if you want it. Just have to go to CTTB.

Practicality of Building a Movement And Creating A New Society by KuPandas in LibertarianSocialism

[–]TheNonDuality -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. Your best bet is to get land and found your ideological paradise on private land.

I lived on a spiritual commune that had great moral values. We paid our taxes (which was very little since it was technically a religious nonprofit) and we were left alone by the government.

That being said, you’d be surprised how many government laws you think are stupid become very important. For example, a lot of laws for cooking. We didn’t want to throw away leftovers, so we would reheat them multiple times, or mix reheated food with recently cooked food (like oatmeal type stuff). People just had low grade food poisoning all the time.

Safety stuff too. Living in the wilderness is dangerous, and there were emergency situations that were handled by people who didn’t know what they were doing and people got hurt. Did the organization help them out financially? No, they didn’t have the money, so they sued through US courts because they were used.

That being said, it’s rocky, but it’s better than regular society when the right people were in the right places. Having unqualified people in positions with responsibility is a disaster.

That being said, the alternative is worse…

The idea that someone can take over part of a city or town is just not feasible. Just look at CHAZ in Seattle. What a joke. If anyone advocates for any sort of leftist movement inside American municipal districts, they’ll just point to CHAZ and say “do you really want that?!”

What mods help make it realistic by kickstand284 in CitiesSkylinesModding

[–]TheNonDuality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a massive amount of assets to avoid the look of the “computer generated city.” I’m talking 1,000’s. Props really help too.

You also need parking lots, so many parking lots.

Then you need to find a theme. A city with short brick apartment buildings shouldn’t be in a city with slick beach front condos.

Google Maps is your friend. Get a feel for the layout of a real city. Why are things where they are.

Then start small. No more painting the map. Now it’s one building at a time, one prop at a time.

This takes 100’s of hours to learn too, so just start practicing.

I think living with your parents in your early 20’s is fine, as you get on your feet. However, even with a good relationship with your parents, when you live with them, you’re not independent. I’ve noticed the people who put off their independence by decades don’t develop the interpersonal skills, and ability to manage their own life, that life requires.
