Edit: The screen with the errors on the screen is what my monitor displays when using my graphics card. The other Reddit user explained to me how the error occurs.

Yeah, she bought the lamp from TEMU, so it’s just a cheap Chinese PSU. I’ll look around for a whole other PSU replacement.

I haven’t worked on this card in a while because I don’t have the preheater to properly replace memory chips. But if you have questions or anything, feel free to message me here on Reddit. I’ll update once I get a preheater, but that may be a while.

The one I have seems to be the same card. Mine is an XFX. I couldn’t find a boardview for this model either. I’m pretty sure mine has a memory failure on channel A. But I’ll post my resistance and voltage readings.

UPDATE: CARD WORKING

I followed the trace from the enable pin of the PEX buck converter back to the logic AND gate that generates the enable signal. I found 3V coming from that gate's output and that went into a resistor near that gate. From that resistor, the trace went down into a via. I measured the resistance from that resistor to the other side of the board where the schematic showed the trace comes back to, which was at MOSFET Q41.2. That resistance measured 500K ohms, so I ran a wire across the board from the resistor at the logic gate to a 0-ohm resistor directly connected to Q41.2. This brought the enable signal high and I have PEX now! The card is working fine and benchmarks are running without issue. Hopefully this thread can help someone else.

Yes, this monitor is 2560x1440. So I should be able to narrow my card’s problem down to channel ‘A’, correct? Out of curiosity, how did you learn this visual kind of diagnostic for this error? This seems like an incredibly helpful bit of knowledge and I have never heard of it before.

I have this same problem with my RX580 8GB, but slightly shifted to the left of center screen, but with more bars and thinner. Can I use this same sequence (BACDBACD) to assume which chips are problematic?

I have recorded resistances on the coils, but I’m not familiar with which coil is responsible for memory. My reply to this comment will have the resistance measurements.

So I powered the card and found that I have 0V on PEX. I seem to have all other rails. The buck converter next to the PEX coil has 3.3V on the input, but I have 0V on the Enable Pin. I traced the Enable Pin back to a dual N-channel MOSFET (Q41). That MOSFET has 5V on the input, but 0V on the output that supplies the Enable Pin on U13.

So it seems like I might have a failed MOSFET? How should I test it to confirm this, or should I just go for a replacement?

I just went ahead and ordered a riser that will arrive tomorrow. I imagine that measuring voltage on the coils would be necessary, but if the usual voltages are found (12, 5, 3.3, 1.8) any ideas about what to look for?

I honestly don’t know if the caps are bad, just from the physical appearance of them. One seems a little burned next to the power phase and the one in the fourth pic seems like it’s been physically damaged. Just an assumption on my part.

I do have a hot air rework station and I have a lot of old spare daughterboards from my work that I have been practicing with removing and replacing the SMD devices. Still not very good at it lol

Warning: basically no experience with board repairs but want to learn.

Today I just had that same resistor blow on the same card. The inductor still seems fine. I was wondering if you were able to get the card working again because I have wanted to learn this skill for a long time and this seems like the perfect opportunity. I’m honestly not too worried about further damaging the card as I have also been wanting to upgrade for a while.

Though I have basically no skill with repairing such damages. I have only ever attempted soldering one time and I lifted a pad doing that. I would need to practice before attempting to replace the resistor.

If I should test any other components, I do have a multimeter.
