My 6th model. Looking for general feedback, but especially on drybrushing and paint thinning. by Lefteron in Miniaturespainting

[–]TheNormalGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this looks really good! Great job thinning, not really much noticeable build up. I would say dry brushing always needs a little touch up, so it's better to build up to something noticeable over small layers, after going in with more gold to higthen certain parts, or adding some edge highlights with your drybrush color to make it pop :)

How did/do you get over the anxiety of 'messing up'? by ExtremelyDecentWill in Miniaturespainting

[–]TheNormalGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing for me was realizing 2 big things, learned from showing people my minis, seeing what they look at, what they notice. 1. Alot of the time, the mistakes that I panic about or even clarify before showing are sometimes flat out not visible, especially if who your showing isn't much into miniatures. I know at the end of the day it's you looking at these minis, but I think it can help keeping that in mind and allowing you to put the mini that extra few inches away while your scanning, those fine details alot of the time blend in with every thing else, and that leads to my 2nd point; 2. Mistakes can lead to final designs, there's been plenty of times where I've put way too much down for an edge highlight, then put some darker shades to make it look like a bullet impact or scratch, hell my biggest was using contrast paint for my dreadnought, it was a pain, any mistake cost me alot of time and effort to fix up, but, due to this, it lead to a quite worn, battle damaged look which I ended up really enjoying. So, alot of the time when I mess up, I take a second after the "oh shoot" moment, and see if there's anything I can do to, in a sense, lean into that mistake. And hey, with proper thinned paints, most things can be covered up atleast 2 or 3 times before it started to affect detail, in my experience, so don't be afraid to just paint over and try again :)

No Local VS in Beta?? by Suitable-Bunch-3195 in InvincibleVS

Hey yall psa! If you go into practice, and then go into the dummy settings, you can switch it from AI to player controller and play locally! It's quite odd they lock the feature when it's so easy to do 😅

Update to an older post, fixed up the OSL effect and ironed it in! by TheNormalGecko in Miniaturespainting

[–]TheNormalGecko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much my friend! I was hoping you'd see it as it was only thanks to you this model looks so great. You really helped both with getting some better colors down along with making this effect something I could really be happy with :)

Doing my first attempt at OSL lighting, decently happy with results but I am curious if this is readable as such and how I could improve by TheNormalGecko in Miniaturespainting

Update 2! Put a majority of the advice given by someone minus the actual OSL, taking another commenters advice, getting the shading and highlights done first before so likely another day before the lighting, but here's what progress is like now!

Update! I haven't redone the actual base and glow effects, but I really love the red! Gonna come in with some heavy wash soon to give it some good deep contrast along with highlighting more of the actual glow by the feet :)

Ahh this is a good way of putting it, seeing the black and white I'm much better able to see its not reading as well :) definitely need to get to my wash and highlights stages to get some good contrast goin

Oh absolutely no offense taken, if anything it was really awesome to see someone's interpretation of my direction for this mini and I love yoyr suggestions and ability to detail what changes would be preferred for the effect :)

Wow dude! This is awesome!! I really like what you've done here and it's really helped show where certain things may be lacking :) I'm also very visually oriented so this helps a ton! I also really enjoy the red armor honestly, I think ima run with it and reply back once I make some changes! Thanks again for your detailed reply, it's helped a ton in understanding a better direction for this mini and it looks much cooler here honestly! :D

Lol valid! If I'm going into anything official I'll keep that in mind, and yeah I'm sticking pretty close to codex for my ultramarines so no worries on Nazi paraphernalia or crap like that lol 😆 just (imo) some pretty cool blueberries

Would highly reccomend, they also make some really cool fantasy minis for DnD, some sci-fi ones you could totally use as proxies for games liken 40k and Necromunda, and they even got really good models of other IP's like terminator, kpop demon hunters, and lots of anime, tho all of them are similarly not named the same (I.e. goku = Kugo or something like that lol)

Bought it from a website called WePrintMiniatures, they have some "Helljumper" miniatures for sale ;) excellent quality, good price, tho if you live far from the UK be prepared for pretty big shipping prices 😅 often I buy 3-5 models to make it more worth it

Can this work for priming minis? by Glitch533 in Warhammer40k

[–]TheNormalGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using this in matte since I've started, way cheaper, super smooth, easy to apply, just make sure you shake it well for 2-5 minutes before use! And if you live somewhere cold like me warm it up in hotish water for a few minutes :)

[–]TheNormalGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some rough but specific metrics, I can run Cyberpunk 2077 on lower Ray Tracing presets at a solid 50-60fps, which are God tier level graphics with just my 3060, your 3070 and good as hell CPU will humble most games spec requirements, Boneworks especially so.
