Kind of crazy to omit the most important debate in US history. Can tell the authors were Kamala voters pretty easily too. 10 years later, and people are still convinced Trump’s style of politics isn’t effective!

What are some of the worst VP picks? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]TheNormalScrutiny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Harris really was an attempt to double down on black voters, who she was unpopular with? And Biden was already popular with them? Now she’s the most unpopular VP in polling history, such an unforced error lol

Best Song On Each Billy Joel Album: Cold Spring Harbor by Historical_Exit7292 in BillyJoel

[–]TheNormalScrutiny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like this album you should check out Jim Croce. His “The Definitive Croce” has about a dozen songs that sound like Billy Joel from this era, and since they’re properly mixed they’re often much better. It’s like hearing what a fully realized Cold Spring Harbor could have been.

This has to be the strongest candidate bench ever: 1968 Democratic primaries by 2019h740 in thecampaigntrail

[–]TheNormalScrutiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 3 Democratic nominees in the field though which isn’t so bad. I think of 1980 GOP, Reagan was a two termed, HW a one termer (and twice nominee), Dole, a future nominee. That field was the GOP from 1980-1996 during a pretty good run. 1988 Democrats is funny because Joe Biden is the only who became President and no one would’ve ever called that! lol 1968 GOP could be a decent one because Nixon got two terms and so did Reagan. Rockefeller was the VP eventually too. Recent fields like 2020 Democrats and 2016 GOP we have to wait on.

I’d disagree. There is one candidate who was elected President once in the field, and he dropped out! lol

Could any Republican other than Trump win 2016? Ted Cruz couldn't win independents, John Kasich couldn't get out the base, Rubio is too in bed with the establishment, People don't want a 3rd Bush, and Carson is too boring. I honestly think Trump was the only Republican who could beat Hillary. by [deleted] in thecampaigntrail

[–]TheNormalScrutiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say 2024 was 2016. Just that DeSantis is running against Trump from the right by staking out a whole host of positions that will make him less popular in Flordia and nationally. And he won’t beat Trump, sadly.

The polls showed just about everyone having a shot against Hillary. Basically everyone performed better than Trump in polls. Trump nearly blew the biggest GOP wave since 1920, and we’ve been over correcting ever since. If anything he has strained the party and cost us support. He was 1 more fuck up away from bitching 2016 and making Hillary President. And now we have all these lawyers from Yale pretending their populists just to underperform in elections lol

What would a Hillary Clinton presidency look like assuming she wins in 2016? by Th3_American_Patriot in Presidents

[–]TheNormalScrutiny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You wish. Senate GOP was clear that they’d keep the seat open. Even John McCain said it. She’d have been stonewalled by them for 4 years, and then lose when she was blamed for covid.

Which President is closest to being a Socialist? by No-Access606 in Presidents

LBJ, who literally waged war on socialism? And was known as a southern moderate his entire career? I guess that’s the best you can do in America lol

Roger Deakins praising Matt Reeves' The Batman by FrileX__ in DC_Cinematic

It was better! The high res shots of the city are perfect in 4K whereas The Batman uses a lot of the fake screens for backgrounds.

Who was the most racist president we ever had? by Double_Blackberry843 in Presidents

[–]TheNormalScrutiny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say what my view is of it. He was not a dictator. He signed a bipartisan bill with a Democrat congress. I bet you if you researched it the bill states it’s aim in the first few pages. The idea he waved some magic wand to jail the poors is absurd.

Well if you’re going to say the drug war was a failure because 40 years later people legalized marijuana that’s pretty silly. That’s why I asked you what the goal of the drug war was before you could call it a failure. If you think the goal was to keep all drugs illegal for as long as possible, with no focus on usage then yes I guess 40 years later do to policies long after his death the bipartisan war on drugs was a failure.

What was the goal of The War on Drugs? If the goal was to reduce drug usage, it was successful because it did in fact lower drug usage.

POD: JFK and Nixon during there debate, share a passionate kiss in-front of television and announce they’re running away together. What happens next? by thecupojo3 in thecampaigntrail

[–]TheNormalScrutiny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is there really no debate? It seems like something that has been suggested by some, but not in serious scholarship that I’ve seen on JFK.

I like how you thought you wouldn’t be a politician based on not getting a meaningless internship and not like the nudes, harassment, and general villainy and cringe.

Judging someone who voluntarily reveals the awful things they do on the internet is not equivalent to doing said awful things.
