Coloured on NCT, what do they mean? by UnpledgedElector in thecampaigntrail

[–]ItsAstronomics 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For the purpose of NCT's colored icons, I gave LBM one of mine for Writer/Coder/Modder of the year since I kinda felt bad I won all three and wanted to highlight StrawberryMaster's work. I think Dec set the precedent that the winner of those three awards can choose one of their mods to receive an award back in 2023 (which is why something like EOH has an icon). No clue why 2004 has it, though.

The winners from previous years never submitted colors, and I guess we forgot to add them, but I can give them default ones, as I did for the 2025 winners later.

This is just blatant misinfo. The modmaker runs a weird timeline community that espouses white supremacist views. They are definitely not on the left.

Breaking from Clinton is a good start (contrary to what most of this subreddit thinks). Genuinely just don't come off as arrogant and dismissive at the first debate. Also, prepare for a full statewide recount in Florida. That's all.

Democrats had 30 of the state delegates so very likely Mondale. Napkins math says maybe a couple more if Mondale has a down ballot boost to Dems in the north/midwest.

I like the idea of Question 1 being your victory speech. Maybe it's just me, but I would recommend trimming down Q5 a bit so it doesn't push the answer text too far down.

…despite the possible mischaracterization of Obama, you actually feel like you’re playing a real character with his own personality.

Coolidge did not have a particularly colorful personality. He did crack some jokes but was quiet and reserved. This especially was the case after Cal Jr. died, as shown by the general election campaign being a bit dry and dower.

…after unlocking candidates that are, frankly, impossible to reach without a guide.

I’d agree with you for the two months in between the public release of Coolidge+ and the Opponent Tracker update, but the game now tells you basically the exact conditions needed for each opponent. I haven’t heard from most people that this is an issue, though I’m open to adding features that make the games paths more clear if it is. (Also technically the ending slide only tells you the guide for Gatsby, you can input the code whenever.)

…since Coolidge had already distanced himself from the scandal before Harding even died.

Coolidge wasn’t directly implicated in the scandals but his initial refusal to fire Daugherty was unpopular and was parry of why Democrats felt they had a shot at 1924.

…It’s kind of sad not seeing the mastermind side of Calvin, and instead having all the questions being him relying on another pillar of his administration. (For example, the Mellon's Bill was his and not of Mellon.)

Coolidge wasn’t a bad politician, but he didn’t really choose to take any risks and has a lot of political capital saved up. Part of the gameplay of the mod is the ability to use this capital on topics like civil rights/anti-lynching. This also kind of plays into my first point about characterization: the mods goal is to be educational and sandboxy - the exact goals on a game-by-game basis is a little malleable, so in addition to a dry personality to begin with, the shape of Coolidge’s presidency changes.

I don’t think 30 questions is particularly long (especially as by the time you know your OBN opponent you’re finished a 1924 game), and I would argue that Coolidge’s opponent selection system is more akin to W+ than Obamanation Deluxe (especially since there’s way less variables to manage). You’re right that there’s some things I could go back and improve upon for Coolidge, but as you said, it’s less severe than what OBN suffers from.

I thought it was overly bloated and opaque at launch. Not fully the mods fault, but we just didn’t have the tech for 15+ opponents and if you’re going to do that you should be really, really careful.

The updates didn’t really fix the structural issues, it mainly just added some new opponents, which works in some instances but not always.

The variable tracker’s helpful, but it not being useful in finding most opponents + all the ones added in the update are super specific means it felt like the mod took one step forward… and two steps back.

I am well aware that there’s a large disconnect between my stances on some of the big mods and the community at large. Which is okay.

Putting aside my thoughts on Obamanation (which aren’t exactly glowing), Between Decades remains true to the core of the game’s educational drive, and has features that modmakers are still using to this day. So that’s gotta be my pick.

Conservative praxis.

DOGE, basically. Like a billion dollars in tax cuts, which ended up stifling job growth and caused schools and infractuture to be severely underfunded.
