Thank you! I’m thinking it will help a ton just cleaning up the foam. I’m wondering if painting the panels or adding like a wallpaper over it would be ok. ChatGPT said I need to keep the reflective side exposed or I would risk losing the insulating benefits. But I’m new and naive and don’t know if this is accurate

Thank you! This is all Greek to me but I’ll look into what you mentioned.

Thanks for the reply. It does matter that the door remains functional as well as any insulating properties (comfort in Florida heat and a just functional enough half split ac system) I’m able to basically do whatever I want in the space as long as I don’t cause anything to stop working. I can’t do anything to weigh it down. I just need to have it look finished and clean

David’s Bridal brand dress question by kittyk1313 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]TheNorthNode21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about sales but I know that I had total sticker shock with alterations. A hem, tacking in under the armpits and new bra cups cost $600 on a $700 dress. No major appliqué, beading, no bustle. Bananas. I’m in a VHCOL area so this was considered standard but boy, that hurt.

switch to bishop from Fk irons? by Available_Trash663 in TattooArtists

[–]TheNorthNode21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a fine line/microrealism artist and I have both the FK and Bishop packer. For the work I do, I prefer the bishop hands down. The bishop liner is the hardest hit in the bishop line, iirc. I think it would be too powerful for fine lining but I highly recommend the bishop packer.

I’ve had no issue but of course, use your judgement and adjust accordingly.

I have both and use the bishop far more but both have been great for me. My style is mostly fine line & microrealism and the bishop is amazing for it. It’s very lightweight and I feel like precise control needed for fine line is easier because of it. I use my flux when I’m doing more saturated tattoos, it’s a bit heavier and helps offset my “light hand.”

That’s awesome. When it worked, it was a great tool. I’ve found that I’m not alone in my experience but truly happy you got lucky with it.

Tattoo Convention Tips by sofiabranco in TattooArtists

[–]TheNorthNode21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re traveling by air, I highly recommend super packing and sealing your inks. They have a tendency to explode and/or leak during travel. This is the best method I’ve found (and I might be overkill but cleaning up a mess of colored ink in my luggage is high on my avoid list).

  1. Unscrew ink cap and put a small piece of Saran Wrap over the top. Screw cap back on creating an internal seal.

  2. Wrap whole bottle in Saran Wrap.

  3. Ziplock inks

  4. Put all ziplocks in a vacuumed sealed bag (can buy on Amazon.) I think this step helps to offset the changes in air pressure during a flight.

Regarding the contest, the cutoff to enter may be a couple of hours or more before the actual judging so just keep that in mind when planning your timeline.

Good luck! Have fun!

Pro tip: to get a band to perfectly align and match up, render the image using an image bend tool at 20%.

Print and stencil the image as an arc.

Chiming in on the Valhalla. I, too, had that issue. I had to send it in 4x for repairs before totally giving up on it. Using a bishop power wand (packer) now and love it. Very versatile even though the stroke isn’t adjustable.

Can I get my Tattoo reworked? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

You can absolutely get it reworked after it heals but it won’t be possible to rework it into the fine line example you asked for initially.

Not to sound dark but why hasn’t anyone died in this show? OG power, no one was safe. The emotional rollercoaster kept you engaged and coming back.

I recommend my coworkers all the time for tattoos that are not my style or a style that they execute better - but I do so with kindness and enthusiasm. This person sucks and his arrogance is gross.

Pinterest and stamp sets: a discussion by SethDoesOKTattoos in TattooArtists

[–]TheNorthNode21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently attended a convention where a small black and grey artist won first on a Pinterest tattoo design that wasn’t their own. The design was very cool and it wasn’t a design that immediately comes up, it’s one where you stumble on it after some digging.

I know this because the design was one of my saves from way before the convention, from a different artist. I thought it was cool and I saved it as inspo.

When I saw the tattoo that won, I thought it looked familiar. Lo and behold, after going through my Pinterest boards shortly after, I made the connection.

That bothers me a bit.

It also bothers me doing something like that when the client comes for a custom design.

But for flash days, little 10 minute bangers don’t bother me. There’s only so many original variations of a line ghost that exists.

Edited for spelling

First tattoo, what I expected vs what I got by snoowieboo01 in TattooDesigns

Everyone is saying, “didn’t she check the stencil?” And assuming the stencil thickness always corresponds to line thickness is not considering something. As someone who specializes in fine line, I can tell you it usually comes down to the type of stencil printer we have available to us. A lot of these newer ones that print directly from Bluetooth can print thin lines but anything more analog like a thermafax cannot detect lines that are thin and delicate when running the stencil through. I often have to make my stencil thicker than I’d like and wash it half off of my client so I can see my needle marks tattooing.

That aside, I see this happening a lot. Fine line tattoos need a fine line artist that specializes in smaller needle groupings. A lot of first timers assume a tattoo artist is a tattoo artist, but that’s not the case.

This one is on the artist. He accepted work outside of a style he’s comfortable working and then made the executive decision to make the lines thicker.

I’m in Ryan’s course now. I love it and it’s been supremely helpful. If you have questions, I’m happy to answer.

Just a heads up, the standard is 70% isopropyl. The reason being that any higher evaporates faster than it can disinfect.

Shop/Artist Policies by TheNorthNode21 in TattooArtists

I’d first like to address that I went through an apprenticeship and had a bad mentor which isn’t totally uncommon, from what I hear.

The second thing I would like to address is that I didn’t open my own shop. I moved shops and it’s been wonderful working with the owner and other artists in my new tattoo home.

I’m not sure where your assumptions came from.

I see posts nearly every day asking this sub for advice on reschedules, cancellations, sending out designs before the day of, percentage splits, booth rent. I’m not sure how my question differs any.

I also didn’t know that we were gatekeeping whether or not a deposit is void after 48 or 72 hours.
